.....I'm so excited, I have to post...

It looks like I'm going to be able to event this year!!! A friend of mine offered her horse to me this past weekend, to take to some horse trials this coming season!

I haven't (for a number of odd reasons) been able to compete since 2000 and I am stoked.

So.......see you all out in Area 1 this season! :D

Horse is a 17.2-3 hand buckskin Belgian/QH cross and despite his size, I've been told he's a x-country machine. I can't WAIT to ride him. Whoo-hoo!

Oh, I am thrilled for you! I remember all your frustrations from last year.

I've had to give up jumping (other than 12 inch crossrails in a very controlled situation with an utterly reliable horse  but if you do any of the schooling events at Green Acres, I may be there as a groom for my friends, or possibly bring my mare to ride a dressage test or two. (Look for the little palomino morgan with pigeon-toes... she is pretty much unmistakable!)

Thanks QuietAnn! :)

I was looking at Green Acres Schedule, and I think I would like to get him up there for a few of them. :) I'll look for the little palomino! :) Sorry to hear you've had to (mostly) give up jumping. :(

What a treat, after finally coming to terms with the fact that mare isn't cut out for eventing, I get this incredible opportunity! I'm going to take him to some Tom Davis clinics before competing him and then off we go!

UNH is my college, and it was the last event I did, Spring of 2000, the year I graduated. I'm really hoping to take him to all three of their horse trials in '09.

Of course I would LOFF to do Groton House I, but I'm not sure I can get him in shape for Novice by then, we'll see....:D

Oh, my friends also do UNH (though I won't be there for the spring one), and are planning on Groton House. I'll be there as groom, definitely. The older one did Novice at GH 1 last year and found it a very inviting, not too large, but LONG course, so horse and rider fitness are important. She was doing very well until show jumping; there was a downpour and thunderstorm and her horse was shaken up by it, and was still nervous when they started SJ a few minutes later; they had a refusal and a rail down, and this is a horse who is super-steady to jump.

I hope you're finding something good to do with your mare. She is beautiful!

Woohoo!

But really, one should not mention one's '17.2 buckskin Belgian/QH cross' without posting pics. It's just not fair to the rest of us. :D

(I evented a Belgian X -- emphasis on the X -- for years so I'm partial to them. Although right now, after just going out to separate his 26 year-old mongrel a$$ from the mare he was trying to mount, I'm not feeling so partial.

Seriously, it was like a trailer park out there. The obese dimwit mare being pursued by the elderly Belgian X and the crafty Appy mule. Talk about low-rent Romeos... how flattering is it to be courted by a castrated senior citizen and a pony-sized sterile hybrid?)

I'd love to see this horse! I had a buckskin Belgian/QH myself and he was a LOVELY boy. He's now happily serving as a vaulting mount for his new owners. See him here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9Z91P1QQtY

Congrats!

If all goes according to plan, the GAS event May 31st will be my girl's eventing debut (if you can call it a "debut" when it's just pre-elem... ;)) - maybe we'll see some COTHers!

And JER - That reminds me the day my poor TB was tormented: I'd ridden him down to the lower pasture (a good half-mile, hence why I rode) to meet the farrier to do some work on the mares. Jude was tied to the fence waiting, while we went through the girls one by one (about 20 of them). I look over, and here's this HUGE Appy mare, with every possible unflattering Appy characteristic (I love a good Appy, mind you - but this mare, though she had a great personality, was UGLY!), flirting with and teasing poor Jude mercilessly. I was holding one of the horses for the farrier, so couldn't do anything right away, and by the time I got over there Jude (AKA the calmest, most laidback TB on the planet) had been convinced that he WAS The Stud. This is a horse who has never shown interest in a mare before or since... I told him he needed to develop a more discerning eye for the ladies!

Not to hijack, but my Friesian cross gelding (with no studdish characteristics on an average day) truly adores a Haflinger mare at the boarding barn and can't help but strut his stuff a little when she's in sight.

We recently got another boarder, a visually identical Haffie GELDING, who was a stud until his recent gelding a month or two ago.

My poor Jack got a wild crush - complete with an - erm - manly arousal - when the new guy was led past him in the barn aisle last week. He had no idea that he wasn't lookin' at his favorite blonde chick, and he made himself a laughing stock with his posing and calling. I didn't have the heart to tell him that he was hitting on a dude.

Daatje! ME TOO :D I haven't evented since 2000 either (GMHA Fall) and I finally have a horse that seems pretty game. Of course, he is green. Planning on doing some lower level (pre-elem or elem) the first 1/2 of the season and then maybe a BN USEA event in the Fall :D That is, of course, if I can get his breathing under control. He's been having a rough issue with allergies as of late.

I would be more than willing to lead a group happy dance over in the corner. I FINALY found and bought a new horse after being horseless for almost two years. For the last two weeks I've been catching myself smiling for no good reason at the oddest times. The family thinks I'm getting loopy...

Cool! Yes, I was a groom for a friend last year at GH 1 and the course looked wonderful...but definitely LONG. :)

Daatje and I are bearing through this long, cold winter. We did take up Foxhunting last year and boy, is that ever fun! Daatje seemed to like it too, and as long as I kept her hilltop/2nd flight she could handle the distance/speed. 1st flight was a little too fast for her body....not her mind though! :)

So come spring, I'm going to be focusing on getting Daatje fit for foxhunting and Skylar fit for eventing!

Thanks! Not yet. I scoured the web, but couldn't find any of him from his past adventures. I promise to post photos just as soon as I get my hands on some! :)

Congratulations on your new horse! My family has confirmed that I'm nuts. :) It goes with the territory, I think. .....what does my Dad say?.....ah yes, "horses are a disease and horse people are sick in the head".

Thanks Dad.
