I mix up the powdered supplements in his feed (pellets) and he somehow shakes off the supplements which end up in a perfect pile in the middle of his feed tub. How do I get him to eat it? Any tricks you can tell me about?

Add water.
Or add oil.
Or switch to pelleted supplements.
Or drop supplements all together.

My mare gets MagOx and Se/E, both in powdered form, with her ration balancer. All of this is mixed with soaked beet pulp, which makes it much harder for her to separate out anything that's "funny" ... though thankfully we've not yet run across anything she was truly offended by. :)

I gave up on my horse and went to a commercial senior feed that has everything in it. I am going to add some extra flax and see if he eats that.

Ah... water or oil I bet that will work. Do you just use vegtable oil? That's supposed to help their coats as well right?

Just add water and mix. Powder is gone and mixed in. Voila! I wouldn't use oil unless you need it, but I guess a little wouldn't hurt. Would probably help the taste too. Corn oil would probably be just fine.

I have to use pellet supplements as much as possible. Some just don't come in pellets. Beet pulp has been a big help. I also put some "soupy" alfalfa cubes in the bottom. Just enough to cover the the bucket. He eats every thing then.

water or corn oil with pellets will do the trick.
For my picky girl, I added to a textured feed to her pellets, and add water. She leaves NOTHING behind.

I make a small mash with rice bran and apple sauce and mix my fussy eater's supplements in that.

I have the exact same problem with powdered suplements. If I mix them with applesauce, boy he will gobble them down and look for more  but asking the other feeders to do this is asking a lot, I think. I tried flavored pellets to try and get the same effect as applesauce, no dice. I guess I'll try a pelleted supplement?

Applesauce works every time. Makes my job a breeze.

Lately, I have been leaving a bucket of beet pulp to soak until the next feeding. At feeding time I put in all the ingredients ( alfalfa pellets, oats, supplements, salt flax etc...) then I put a handful of the soaked beet pulp into each of their buckets & mix. It works great!
