I'm 5'10 and she is 14'1. I'm not really pony aged anymore either though :D We start young horses at our farm, of all breeds and backgrounds. She is a coming 5 year old Chincoteague Pony that was brought here to be started. She now walk, trot, canters in and out of the ring, started over fences, and hacks out quietly down the road. So, we took her to her first cross county school yesterday and boy did we have a blast!
Her name is Donut (check out her blaze) and she is now 60 days under saddle. She is just awesome and I'm taking her to her first jumper show in March. If all goes well, she will be making her eventing debut this spring! She really is very cool and is a very scopy little girl. I haven't had this much fun in a long time!
Here we at Frying Pan Park, coming out of the woods (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v44/FlyACK/Training%20Horses/XC1.jpg) and into the water (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v44/FlyACK/Training%20Horses/XC3.jpg) (I better not lean!) and then over the last fence (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v44/FlyACK/Training%20Horses/XC2.jpg).
It's been a fun 2 months so far and will be really neat to see how far she can go! I never thought I'd be eventing a pony, but I'm excited for it. We got her pony sized Woof boots, they are adorable

I'm 5'10 too, and my first opportunity to really ride a pony came when I was 24 :D
Now, I'm convinced I can be competitive on the right pony/honey in eventing - or whatever! I'm convinced.. you can't beat the power they pack, their willingness to work for you (as long as you can appreciate the "pony mind"), and their intelligence. You just can't!
Super cute girl - have fun!

Never heard of an Eventing Chicoteague (sp?) Pony!! That is awesome. And wow, she is a great ROUND jumper!!! Very cute.
Amazing how her body takes up your leg. I thought when you first posted, you're legs would be hanging down to her elbows...but she must be pretty deep/wide in the girth!
Great photos and sounds like she's off to a wonderful start.

She is adorable and heck, you look good on her. I'm also 5'10. Gives me hope that maybe I don't have to have a 17 hand horse. Good luck and keep us posted on your spring with her!!!

Donut is all pony mare, but she is really special, very scopy, and a lot of fun. Total pony power! She had her first long hack by herself the other day and was a super star, so I took her to the river thinking she would snort or look at it. Instead she jumped right in, guess I should hae known better. She is pretty fearless and very level headed so everything has been going well, although she does have her opinion on things. I would have done anything for a pony like this as a kid, she is a blast!
She wears a 68 blanket and is 14'1 with a big barrel to take up my long leg. I ride her in a small pony saddle and pull my stirrups way up. This is us trotting (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v44/FlyACK/Training%20Horses/Donuttrot.jpg) (you can get a better idea how big I am in this picture)and over her first baby oxer (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v44/FlyACK/Training%20Horses/Donutjump.jpg). She's going to be a blast, I just hope I don't get too many funny looks at horse trials!
Lex, I think we are aiming for Frying Pan to be our first recognised HT this spring. Hopefully I won't embarrass myself OR the pony :D I feel about 20 years younger riding her. Wishful thinking!!!

OMG she is too cute! Was she born on the island and bought in the auction? Wonder if she made that swim. I've heard of a few of them who have gone on to be good little jumpers and she certainly seems to be one! Someone is going to have a lot of fun with that one!

She is so adorable! Maybe she needs a date with Kevvy? In any case, what native Chincoteague Pony wouldn't be great in the water? What a little love - I am so jealous of you!

Bornfree I'll ask her owner tomorrow, but I know she (the owner) went to the auction, kids and trailer in tow and bought Donut as a weanling. She emailed me pictures of her as a baby on the salt marsh, she was so cute! Not sure if she actually made the swim or not though.
She is so tough, the toughest little feet and legs, a fancy mover. And her winter coat, oh my goodness! It's down right impressive! I've seen the ponies at Assateague when we camped there and they were adorable, but this is the first Chincoteague Pony I've ever sat on. She was a pistol to start for the first 30 days  Knock wood, I haven't come off yet, but she performed some maneuvers I've never had a young horse do before! We seem to be (thankfully!) all over that stage now.
I figured she'd have a kid riding her so I've taught her to do her lead changes with a tap on the outside shoulder and she responds very well to voice commands. She's actually really laid back and I think will be a packer for a good event kid later on. Now we'll be working on bending around the inside leg, which is quite fun for me, I can literally lift her belly with my lower leg. Can a pony be a DQ :D
LLDM is Kevvy the stallion in your sig? If so, an you imagine the jump and movement these two could produce?!

Oh boy, does that look like a total blast! What's with all the tall chicks on this forum who love ponies?
I'm nearly 6' -- I've been riding a 13 hand drafty paint this winter and having more fun! I forget how little he is until I slide off to dismount and only drop about four inches. I was looking for someone small to event him this summer and now I'm having little delusions of my own... quick...someone stop me...

Well she did good. I don't think they typically have the weaners make the swim...but she would have certainly had to cross some water growing up. I've never sat on one but there was one at a barn I boarded at that was pretty darn nice too. Have fun with her!

Hey, I am sure Dio would LOVE to date her ;) - but I was referring to Kevlar - Teddy's full brother. The one Wynn has and is still entire. Maybe she changed his name again? But I remember him as Kevvy. I thought of Kevvy because of the dark color - I thought it would go better with her coloring . But there is Coda too, the other "entire" full Teddy brother - the one Christan Trainor has.
I have no idea if Dio can event yet (although I am eventing his mother). Right now he's trying to make fancy hunter ponies!

Oh I love eventing ponies.
I'm short, (5') and not growing (26yrs old), and when I buy another event horse (soon I hope!) I'm going to get a pony or honey. I pony clubbed a 14.1hh gelding to my C-3. I think he could have done my B but I was really worried about his soundness, even though he'd never had a problem, I wnated to keep him that way. I wanted to retire him sound, and I did. He's now eating on a round bale....
I just love doing the ponies because I feel like they're really durable and really sturdy on their feet--like they're not going to do something dumb and get in a sticky position that they can't get out of.
My favorite events were on a 14.1 mixed breed pony mare.
Here's a pic of us schooling XC at Hunter's Run in Michigan.

Donut isn't for sale, is she? :D

The original idea was for her to be started and go onto the hunter ring. She has her changes, moves very well and jumps very well. But, we event here, and when I asked her owner if I could start her hacking out and pop over some logs, well, it just went from there! I've started many, many, many babies out on cross country, they all handle it differently. Donut ate it up, she was so brave and seemed like she loved the idea of figuring questions out. So for now, her career is aimed at eventing.
The owner isn't sure what to do with her now  She's not for sale, they want to keep her in the family forever. She's a lucky pony, she's been a total stinker at times to them, but she has several people who love her for life! IF the perfect and completely right situation came around, who knows. Her owner also wants her to have a career and a job, she loves working and needs to be busy. So I'll get her started eventing and who knows what the summer will bring.
I am just really excited to see what she can do! I better not screw up, it's not like we'll easily blend into the crowd :D

"Chincoteague" is a fancy way of saying "stinker.":lol:
Quite a few years ago, when I was still running a horse program at a Y day camp, I had one pony crazy little girl in my program. Her parents took her to Pony Penning Day for her birthday..how exciting for a pony crazy girl, right?! I was jealous, since, while I've been, I never got to go to PPD! Anyway, I went to MY barn (where I kept my horse) one day, and there was my girl from camp, her parents, AND a little weanling pony!!!!:eek::eek: I just about bit my tongue out of my head, considering that they parents had ZERO horse experience and the daughter was 11 and the scope of her horse experience were the very casual lessons she took at camp. THANK THEIR LUCKY STARS that they, totally by chance, ended up at my barn, as the BO had bred horses for years, so she knew had to deal with babies (and this one was a tough one). I took them under my wing and helped them break that bad baby on the ground. There were several times I was dragged down the very long barn aisle, getting bounced off of everything. He was SO naughty, but so frickin cute. I did help get him started (by that time, the whole family was taking lessons from me, and mom and dad had bought their own fabulous horse), and was the first to sit on him...by that time, he was a good, good boy. I moved away shortly after that, but did get frequent updates and pictures of him and his kid for a couple of years.
This one's a cutie. Riding ponies is so much fun. I have one semi-naughty one that I school a few days a week, and have jumped him a few times. What a blast! He always jumps his best over something bigger. No way he could ever be a hunter pony. He is a total yahoo eventer and foxhunter.

Seeing all these other ponies makes me really excited that she is going to have a cool eventing career! I was watching the YouTube videos of the pony on the H/J forum jumping 4 foot, now that was impressive! Goodpony yours looks like a blast to jump!
She is so much fun. Her 12 year old owner came up with her show name and we are all set to go to Frying Pan's jumper show March 15th. If anyone is there, no laughing please!
This was taken today, her over the super scary roll top (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v44/FlyACK/Training%20Horses/Donutcoop.jpg) we have. No problem. She's a thinker and figures it all out. You can almost feel her thinking. Now she can use that for good or evil. We try to keep her on the path of the straight and narrow!

Donut is such a little rascal, and Michelle has done an AWESOME job with her. I could tell such stories on her! :D I am totally looking forward to seeing her blossom into a great little eventer. Never could I have predicted what a talented girl she was when I picked her out on the salt marshes of Chincoteague.

do not worry about your pony she will be terrific....ponies LOVE eventing, so much more exciting, fun and easy for them than other disciplines. Ponies love two things "to eat" and 'never be bored'...too much drilling and not enough fun is a definite recipe for Pony-tude. Good luck, have fun and keep us posted.
PS. Our little guy is really awesome fun, very smart, and a very talented/safe jumper. Though in those pics a bit of a "chinese war horse' with his mane sticking all straight up in there air. Pony mane!

awe...I love all the pony pictures! I want doughnut!!! I'm 5'4" so I've been designated the pony jockey at the barn I am currently at. We have a 5 year old 12 hand Shetland cross that is so adorable. Super fancy...belongs in the hunter ring, but I want to event him so badly! He has so much scope & will jump anything! His name is Tiny. He is currently at a different barn learning what it means to have a kid ride you...
here he is with a kid.
