This morning Ansel/Charm fell and fractured his femur. He wasn't in my life long but it is still hard knowing that he is gone.

Have fun galloping around comfortably, Big Red Horse, and I hope you find someone with a curry mit to scratch your big red face for you after your initial run around.

True that. Hopefully the brige wont be as busy in 2009 as in 2008 but its already felt the passage of one beloved horse.

My deepest sympathies on your loss.

I had a similar experience, lost a two-year old that I had only had for a year to a broken leg, it has been 3 years, and I am sure I will never truely be "over it".

So, so, sorry for your loss. Hugs and prayers.
I lost one in a similar accident a year ago.

A friend gave me a small plaque that says it perfectly:

"the love of horses knows not its own depth 'til the hour of separation"

I think it was really cute when for one of the first times I was brushing him I was trying to get the point across to him that he must stand still. A bit frustrated I said out loud "Hey, if you stand still then I will brush your face!" About ten minutes later I was perplexed at what had come over him to start behaving himself, and remembered my promise. He loved a good face brushing.

Also, getting up at 5am to go feed the horses before school, he was always beside himself with joy for food, a change from my "princess" mares who put me to shame if I displease them. Getting up at the crack of dawn after not much sleep was easier when someone was reallllly happy to see you

I am so sorry for your loss. I know he enjoyed his final days with you more than any in his life, and he was blessed to be in a caring and loving home during his passing. You gave him some incredible gifts during your time together. I know he is eternally grateful.
