:sigh:
I'm very tired. This has been quite the winter. We're breaking records right and left, for coldest, longest-coldest, and snow amounts.
I could do without that, thanks. I mean, I LIKE winter. Usually.
But the first storm dumped so much that riding in the snow is out (belly high drifts) and it's been just lather-rinse-repeat ever since.
:sigh:
There's no ROOM for more, and I have NO IDEA how I'm going to get the round bale even remotely close to where it needs to be.

It ain't over til the last shovel is put away! Maybe MAY????? Right now we're down to bare ground over 95%-- for now. Just a few piles in the shady areas and one or two icy spots that just will not thaw. Sunday we're expecting snow to rain- but I'm in the "north and west of Providence" and a whole other climate, so who knows. From now on we'll get just enough snow to be what I call a "nuisance factor"-- 6" at 8am and 65degrees at 2pm. Right through March- maybe April. This too shall pass. I agree, though, this has been one memorable winter and not for the better. Just remember thinking like this in August when 2'" of snow would be a godsend.

We've still got piles of dirty snow here in New Hampshire. Is there another storm coming? I haven't been listening to the news, so I'm not up to date. It's actually been above 32 here for a few days, so a lot has melted -- there's just so much of it that that is also still a lot to go before we could even hope to see the ground.

Up in this part of NH we are still quite thoroughly snow-covered, and another 3-7 inches predicted tomorrow. I'm TIRED of it - and if this keeps up I'm gonna have to drive the darn plow truck back down to Portsmouth to plow out our facility there, too. We figured since the next time we have people there will be early March, we might be able to fudge it. Apparently not. :sigh:
I am ready for winter to be OVER, darn it!

Well, I'm a little further south than some of you but this winter doesn't hold a candle to the winter of '95-96, IMO. We had more than 130" of snow that year (broke the record by a mile) and it lasted from late Nov until the middle of April.

Both horses I ride are near Exeter, NH. The mix of ice and snow has been really, really frustrating. We are all sick of the indoor! Both horses are road-safe if with another horse, but we haven't even been able to do that because of the number of icy patches and frost heaves on the roads. In my mare's case, the town where she is boarded has basically run out of snow removal funds, so they only do the major roads within a day, and then wait and see if it warms up to melt everything on the minor roads. Of course, when it did warm up, it still got cold at night so the driveway at the barn was a sheet of ice... I slid my little car right into a snowbank last week; luckily no damage was done.
I had not yet moved here for the winter of 95-96, but have seen photos of the other horse's barn... They had snow on the ground until JUNE that year!

Is it OK to cry? I am also in NH and have a severe case of spring fever. We have giant snow banks in the yard, mud where it has melted down and now 6-8" with rain on the way. Really? Is this a joke?
I am also tired. I work full time (40-50 hrs a week) and manage an at home barn. Spring out there somewhere?

looks like another foot or two coming tomorrow. hopefully it will be light and fluffy like the dump we had the other day. so far the farmer's almanac has been pretty accurate this winter---they predicted numbingly cold and tons of snow. and it is numbingly cold in the wind, that's for sure.

Mr. Chai got so excited today when he thought he saw something green outside the window on the south side of the house. He bounded out the front door, sure he was going to see the first hint of the crocuses that are so tough, they often shoot up through the snow, but it was just part of the crusty, dried up wreath that I should have taken down two weeks ago. He was so disappointed.
It can't be long now. But I did hear that snow is on the way again....

Is it OK to cry?
Yes, it is! Especially when you have just slipped on the ice that is hidden under the latest snow and added an impressive bruise to your knee right on top of where it was sore already from skiing...

Definitely OK to cry... right now I'm afraid I mightn't stop though... :uhoh:
Have heard everything from 3-5 to a foot. :sigh:
Today warmed up JUST enough to make the unplowed, unsnowblowed stuff from the last storm heavy and icy.
Seriously. UNCLE!!!!!

Am I the only one who was surprised as hell about that snow the night before last? Not a thing was predicted except for "10% of a passing flury overnight." By 7 pm we had a few inches of wet heavy snow here in southern CT and I hear the Litchfield Hills area was buried under almost a foot. Where the fruitbat did that come from?
The annoying part was that it was warm that day so everything was soft mud, and the snow just insulated the mud from freezing so it was like walking on congealed grease!
We've had warmish weather for about a week now...more like mid-March weather. It freezes overnight but warms up daily...and I'm not happy with March a few weekd early. I *hate* March weather with mud and frozen ruts.

Not even close to complaining about mud here, either. A dump last night left me snowblowing and shovelling again today. Im about done with it all. frozen patches from last weeks thawing made the going treacherous.

 I took a pretty bad header over a snowbank (that *I* made only 12 hrs before... but forgot about :( ) last night at 0300 when I got home. I did not really hurt anything, but woke with a migraine this morning. Can't take anything serious because I have to work tonight. :dead: At least part of it.
Actually, I suspect it's the storm causing the migraine. It's very mild today and storm is on it's way. This happened last week too. It seems like the nicer/warmer/milder the day before, the worse it is.
Forecast has gone from 3-7 to 10-14 tonight, with add'l tomorrow adding up to 14-18". With drifts, that'll be up over my waist. :sigh:
My head hurts.

I went to let my dogs out at around 10:00 PM and was like... Why is there snow on the ground?
Luckily everything around here is pretty much melted, thank goodness.
I'm so happy to see the darn snow and ice gone, I'll take the mud!
Pinto - Where about in NE are you? It is just raining right now in CT.

Haha Chai. That was a mean trick to play on your husband.
At my place the usual first flowers of spring are the snowdrops and scilla. Last fall we did some construction, which wiped out the bed where they live. I dug up and rescued as many bulbs as I could find, and my wonderful husband later replanted them when the construction was finished. Yesterday he told me he saw the first sprout from one! Alas, I think finding this sprout is going to be like seeing the groundhog's shadow: six more weeks of winter!

It's snowing (and has been since noonish). And it looks like upwards of a foot and a half expected for us over the next 24 hours. :sigh:
On the other hand, the forecast made all the tourists head home early. I love the tourists for bringing all their money to us, but the traffic SUCKS. Today, though, it was possible to go south on 16 in the early afternoon withOUT doing the stop-and-go thing in a line of 6,000 cars. (I'm just trying to do the looking on the bright side thing...)

It's not raining in THIS part of CT. It's been snowing all day. Perfect snowball snow. The snow the other night took us by surprise, too (only 3" here at 1200 ft). The day before yesterday, with ice on the ground covered by a thin layer of snow, the winds were up to 40mph. Today, it's much nicer but if it all changes to rain, and then we return to the single digits in a day or two, it will be no fun. I don't mind winter but I hate ice.

Oh right now I'm looking at an inch and a half of slush outside my window. The horses were miserable outside and it is just super dreary and nasty out there. I just keep telling myself that spring will come.........spring will come...(but then I suppose we'll all complain about the mud and the rain ;))

Right now, the weatherman says 40s for Thursday - making that my next scheduled Blanket Repair Day, 'cause I can switch her into lighter layers and take the heavier one home for a couple of days. Poor girl hasn't had a blanket-free day since December, I think (when it's been warmer, it's been raining...). Though, to be fair, she doesn't NEED the blankets much of the time...but it's easier to blanket her myself than to hear from my fellow boarder about how sad it is that she's the only one in that field without a blanket (and I do keep them on the light side - she doesn't even HAVE a heavyweight, though those days when it was in the -30s, she had a LOT of layers). The joys of boarding...

We've got some freezing rain thing going on here in Southern New Hampshire. I was going to drive down to the barn a little earlier, but then this started and I changed my mind.

Pouring rain... that is my report. Has been since it started. Sooooo.... my paddock is turning into a sheet of ice and all the plowed areas are 6" of mud. AWESOME. And it is suppose to switch to snow, which means we cannot plow it because of the mud situation and the paddock will go something like this from the bottom up....
Frozen mud, mud, ice, ice, ice, snow.
My guys were standing in the rain a little while ago when I went out to feed. They came into the stalls for dinner and I put the hay inside, but I KNOW they will venture back out and ignore their hay. The buggers just don't seem to like eating hay inside regardless of weather and I have no idea how to tempt them.
I love my waterproof sheets :) They have gotten a workout!

In upstate NY, we're getting more snow... I've been looking at the exact same base layer of snow since mid-December. It may melt and get a bit slushy, but when it's 10 degrees again that night, it just means I'm salting to even turn out, salting to bring in... I'm tired of ice and snow! I was feeling okay about this winter until this week. Then it struck me how long we have until we see green or ground again, and now I'm just miserable. It's a good thing we have beautiful summers/fall.

It has been raining here all day. My gutter isn't working the way it should, so I have buckets under each connector to catch the water----WHICH the boys think are their new toys. So I am off to the pouring rain to gather up the buckets and put them back under the gutter. I would say that I am just grateful for rain, rather than snow, but it will freeze later tonight when the temps drop. Then I have to RESAND the paddock because what I just put down yesterday has all washed away. Oh, Theo had better be an angel under saddle this year..... IF the ring ever thaws....

2+hrs to get 27 miles home last night. Got the PLOW stuck 2x. Barely got in off the road. (the whole sordid tale is in Around the Farm).
This morning wake up to snow 1/2 way up the sliding glass door.
I'm off to try to dig out a little. I want to go back to bed and wake up in June.

Survived another one:mad:-barely...we got 15 inches of Wet Heavy Crap. Lost the power for about 24 hours (THANK YOU!!!! CMP FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK!:winkgrin::winkgrin::winkgrin:)
Also lost some very large tree limbs-ones that have survived years of major snow and ice storms...there will be much wood for the stove next winter. DH had HAD ENUF! and at 7:30 we headed to Lowes for a new generator. Had just gotten out of the truck and went flat on my keister slamming my noggin hard on the ice. Dear..next time can we just wait til they sand and salt?!?!?!
If we had to lose Hizzhonor the NOT!! Spoiled!! Arabian b4 any winter this was a good time for him to be running over the rainbow bridge...his fence and gate are covered in tree limbs and he would have had to spend much of the winter indoors..which he would have really hated.
