Hi all,

I need a name for manufactured (all natural, ingrediants listed & analyzed) horse treats.

They are similar to Mrs. Pastures although not the same.

Any ideas????

Thanks!

They are the same shape and size as Mrs. Pastures. We are thinking of something along the lines of Neighsayers.... ideas???? Please?

"Nutz....for Horses"
Or "Naturally Nutz...for Horses"
etc ad nauseum.

I believe some mention was made about Ted et al needing to pre-qualify any potential "Whack-Job" client products to meet our stringent tastiness standards...You get bonus points if owners like to munch on them, too.

FYI in case it didn't go without saying...I am *SO* Just Kidding...I'm pretty sure that the COTHers in general and specifically the hyper-Whack-Jobs "who could not be silenced"...are not (yet ;) ) of a mind to hold your worthy naming project ransom to their unique and prodigious talents...
:D

Good luck with your product development and launch, Tarynls.

"Toll Horse" will come with a big fat lawsuit from Nestle.

That why most people usually run things by a lawyer before using the name.

Rwwarrr...Tell Nestle to "Bring it!"
(nononononono....Nestle can keep it....nothing to see here. Please move along....)
So, this is sort of out of left-field, but when the horses are so excited they *cannot* remember their manners, we call them muggers; or being 'mugged' for treats..
So, how about something like that? "Mugs" or "Muggers"?

How about moochies?

"They'll mug ya for moochies!"

That's what I call Ted's buddy Bow, he looms his face right in yours just in case there is a treat sighting nearby, and apparently treats, like ghost sightings, can hover around certain people. Who knew? So I call him my mooch.

Um, if you pick one of the names on this thread, you have to send samples to everyone on the board, and then you can get the WhackJobs seal of approval (which we are designing, along with the logo - our seal will be a donkey braying and kicking their heels and the statement will read, "This product kicks ass!") (TM patent pending and all that, right? Where's our legal eagles?) and then you also get an official WhackJob tocque to proudly wear at all functions.

Edited to add: I mean the board of WhackJobs Inc - you don't have to send to all zillion COTHers!

Solid. Freaking. Gold.

I'll second DGRH's proposal and SOA design concept. Perhaps "..is kickass"?

I can dig up the TM info & will send it on. If I'm recalling correctly, it's not too onerus.
As Coreen alluded to in her post--it's the defense thereof that can get tiresome and $$.

This will be good practice for Ted. I had a friend who left after grad school, went to law school and became one of the first DNA type patent lawyers and she was making $600,000 a year when I was still on an NIH postdoctoral fellowship making under 21 K. Now you know why Ted needs to go to law school.

Toll Horse Cookies

That one gets my vote!
Rev: do your research and let us hope Nestle has a sense of humor.

BTW: I was at an Equine Expo that had a vendor selling naturally-based treats that were human edible too. She had samples and they were not bad...not bad at all!

If I pick one of the names you guys pick then samples will not be a problem!

We are still thinking about Neighsayers though...

We are looking at Horse Expo & Equine Affaire (in 2010?)

Thanks for the suggestions!

2Dogs--
Not much research needed in this instance unless OP has $ to approach Nestle about a sub-licensiing agreement. ;) Nestle has owned and rigorously defended the Toll House tm since the 40's.
A product with a derivative name, such as "Toll Horse" would almost certainly result in a "nicety-gram" from Nestle ordering a cease and desist.
It would be like naming a treat "Star's-bucks"--companies that have invested time, energy and $$ in building a brand tend to look askance at coat-tail riding on their tm's and/or copyrights. :)

Not to say it can't ever happen--I'v successfully rec'd permission for limited use of names and images for a variety of one-time uses, etc. Sometimes there was a fee attached and sometimes the Lic Dept was tickled pink or feeling generous.

In OP's instance, she's better advised to develop and build her own brand in any case. Besides--no carob or choco chips in these cookies that I'm aware of... :D

Thanks for your suggestions and help. To answer some questions: the treats are round, about 1" across and about 1/2" thick. They are molasses flavored.

We are in the process of setting up a website and obtaining a trademark.

Any ideas for a logo? I decided on Neighsayers for the product name...just need a logo or saying (like "these treats kick ass")

Thanks all!

By all means use "these treats kick ass" with a braying donkey kicking up! If Uncle Jimmy was dumb eno...I mean, not interested in our creativity, his loss!!

The only thing with Neighsayers is it might imply a negativity? Or am I being too geeky?

But anything with molasses is excellent.

I did have one other person bring up the negativity factor. I figured horse people wouldn't see it that way - "neigh" - get it? LOL

How about "Nicker Nuggets"? "Has your horse nickered for their nugget today?".

I was thinking more of non horsey people who might buy for the horsey types. (I only say this because one year my cousin got me a beautiful leather halter for Ted, as requested, and when I opened the box, she shusshed me, furtively looked around, and said: "No. REALLY. What do you use this for???" Because apparently leather = bondage in her eyes.)
