I ordered my passport over a month ago and it is still not here!! I have tried to contact the person at the USEF over the passports, but have had no luck. I was told it takes a long time to get them in, but I didn't think it would be this long. I also have not recieved my FEI numbers for 2009, which were ordered at the same time. How do I go about getting them, and what happens if it doesn't come in time to get the influenza series? I am going to poplar the the end of march, and I am getting nervous! I know there was a rush order check box, but is there anyway I could get it rush ordered even though it was over a month ago that I ordered it? Who can I contact that will actually respond?

Try Michelle Hale (mhale@usef.org - 859-225-6984) or Kelly Stachon (kstachon@usef.org - 859-255-6987). If that doesn't work, try Ken Ball (kball@usef.org - 859-225-2035) or Lisa Owens (lowens@usef.org - 859-225-6966)
You can get the flu series done. As long as your vet has the records, they just need to note and sign that they were done on the dates they say they were.

Nowadays it takes a very long time to get a passport back.
You might have to hire a passport expediter to help you.
This is from the US Passport Office
Already Applied for a Passport? Check here online;http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/status/status_2567.html
Currently, it is taking 5-7 days for applications to be tracked online. It may take less time if you paid for Expedite Service and sent your application via overnight delivery.

I'm pretty sure she means horse passports from USEF. Not USA human passports.

FEI does not send you the number, you find it on their website under Eventing then Lists of Registered Horses and Riders. www.fei.org Unfortunately the website says the lists are unavailable until Feb 2009. So not up yet. If you get your flu series without the passport make sure the vet notes the "batch " number and maKer of the innoculation, as you need to put that on the passport.

FWIW I got my US passport back in under 2 weeks without paying any additional charges. I think they're pretty much caught up on the backlog that requiring them for Mexico and Canada made. Ok, back to the equine passport...

I believe that the passport app clearly states that it will take a MINIMUM of 5 weeks for you to get your horse's passport to you. That would be quick. A few months is more likely. We always apply the season before we need them. Good luck, I hope you get a hold of someone.

Yea, I didn't know about the 5 week thing. I was just told to get it early because of the influenza series. I am not getting the FEI one, just the USEF one so I thought it might be a bit quicker. I guess I will get the vet out and start the series, I didn't know you could go ahead and start, and hope I can pay to get it express shipped, I think its been about 6 weeks. Thanks for the help!

If you go to the USEF website and check your membership listing, it will include your FEI number if your application has been processed. The same for your horse.

mine will be here the 25! He has had his first shot and he needs his second... I hope I have enough time too! What happens if the USEF doesn't send it back in time?

Mine only took 2-3 weeks, but I was in touch with the USEF people via the telephone pretty frequently. They were super nice and did everything they possibly could to get it back as quickly as possible. The other thing is, if you don't have a vet (or sometimes even if you do) who has filled out a passport before, there will typically be a couple of mistakes and it may not be approved by the USEF the first time you send it in for approval, which would mean that they would have to mail it back to you, your vet has to come out again, and you have to mail it back all over again. To speed things up, the USEF people will inspect a faxed copy of the passport to see if everything looks okay before you send it back. Someone on here suggested that to me when I was going through all of this, and I think it saved us! Our passport came back approved 2 days before we had to leave, we were cutting it close.
For the passport to be considered official it has to be approved by the USEF and I am 99% sure that you absolutely have to have your passport in hand at the event. If it doesn't come back in time then I guess you wouldn't have a passport. But, hopefully everything else goes smoothly for you and you get it on time. Good luck!

That's really good advice about the faxing, I think I'll do that when my passport comes in. I should check on mine, I sent my stuff in in late January and they cashed my check on February 5, so I know it's in the works. I don't need mine until the first weekend in May though, so I'm not feeling the pressure yet.
