17 yr old TB mare. Chestnut with big blaze and 2 socks. A TRUE 16.2 and throws big and with chrome. Has been a broodie most of her life, easy breeder/keeper. Only maintaince is that she requires caslicks after foaling, but she handles it well. Located near Clemson, SC. Pics available through email - please PM me your address.
She has been an AQHA broodie, with foals earning ROM's in Hunt Seat and All-Around. Her 3 yr old just sold for $30k and is winning Futuritys, and he's already 17 hands! She would cross amazing with WB's, she's big boned, refined head, strong feet, deep chested, and still sound. A nice mover to boot!
She is free to me, will need some groceries in the next few weeks to bring her weight back a tad and I'm working on that end, but I can't afford to keep her past rehab. She's paid her dues to the horse world with some amazing babies, and still has a few more good foals left in her. Just didn't want to see her go to a bad outcome, so trying to find the best fit for her.

Her mare line is Lavendula--
"Among the leading juvenile fillies in France; won three races as two year old. Lavendula II was culled from the Lord Derby stable in 1933, bought by Mr. Ben Guinneas for 750 guineas and sent to stud in France. She bred six winners from 10 foals including Ambiorix and Source Sucree, dam of Turn-To (GB)."
Paraphrasing a resident COTH expert on this line: Lavendula is dam of Source Sucree, dam of Turn-To and Perfume, dam of too many jumping lines to count, including My Babu
and to top it off --family 1 is one of the most accomplished.
I am sorry that I myself am all filled up as she would look to make lovely sporthorse babies.
Good luck to her!

Bump, I will keep her, but I would hate to see her retired so early especially since her babies are winning. And just imagine what her sporthorse babies could do! Thanks Omare.. I will keep that in mind!

Shameless bump. Hope is still looking for a forever, or temp home as a mommy. I do have her JC papers - so her foals should be eligible anything when cross to a registered stud. She will be re-started under saddle in a few weeks as the weather gets better and she gains a lil bit more weight.

With all the unwanted horses going to slaughter,I certainly don,t understand what motivates people to want to offer more for breeding. Enough is enough already.

She's a proven producer, her foals have earned points in multiple events at AQHA shows. Her current 08' colt is for sale at $25k. This is not the run of the mill TB mare. I'm offering her as a chance for someone who is looking to add another mare to their herd, and doesn't want to take a chance on an unproven "mediocre" TB mare.
I agree there are too many horses. But she was getting tossed to the curb, I got her b/c I don't believe in a good producer being thrown away. She's got 2 or 3 more winning foals in her, if not she'll be retired as a trail horse. Jeez lighten up and hash on the numerous 4-10 yr old OTTB mares who are offered as broodmare sound only. At least Hope has completely clean legs b/c she was never run!
Hence the reason I'm starting her back undersaddle, but I guess that part is irrelevant to you.

I think she is beautiful! I agree with you. More quality horses need to be produced and less backyard breeding crap just because you have a mare and a stallion.

Not saying this is not a nice looking horse, just saying truckloads go to slaughter everyday that have made tons of money at the track.Check out TB FRIENDS web page there are so many that that meet their end horribly. I,m sure someone would adopt for other reasons than just breeding. My personal opinion. Joe at TB FRIENDS runs a rescue and has saved so many that would have gone to slaughter but thanks to him have found good homes.Good luck with your girl.

I'm very familar with Joe and applaud his efforts at TB Friends. I'm sure someone could adopt for other reasons than breeding, but I really don't even see the point of getting a younger money winning OTTB for breeding, when so many proven producers are offered for free. MANY OTTB's that win money never produce themselves, both mares and especially stallions. Go with what works, I'm lucky and I've got a mare that works, with multiple stallions, I'm just offering a better chance to a responsible breeder to get something GREAT, not just to breed.
Truckloads of unsound young horses go to slaughter everyday, can't save and fix them all. I'm just keeping this old and sound horse from going too.
I do see your point and appreciate it. But Hope is marketing towards sport and family horse breeding, not the race industry so it's a little more discretion wise about things (at least the responsible breeders I associate myself with! LOL)

I have had experience with rescue, and it's been bad. I frankly refuse to sign over my life to an agency that touts themselves as martyrs and rescuers, and while other owners don't have a problem with it? If I feed it, and clean up after it, and love it? it's MINE. Not theirs. While I absolutely know there are good ones out there? I've had too sour a taste in my mouth from rescue maniacs to even want to go there anymore. Kudos to those who can and do support them. I've tried. lol.

Cricket - I agree. I would offer Hope up on either a lease, if someone doesn't want full responsibility, or full giveaway papers and all (after 6 months - to keep dealers and reseller's away). Or I may end up just keeping her for quite a bit myself if that's what needs be. Just trying to do what's best and what I can, financially we're all having a hard time and my thoughts are that she may have a better purpose with someone else. :)

Update: Hope is sound!! She has been round penned a few times, completely sound (and gorgeous hunter mover - obviously her babies get that from her ;) ) but seems to be stiff after being stalled so she'd do better turned out 24/7 or at least most of the day. Is OMG sweet and QUIET QUIET QUIET!! She has been at the new barn for 5 days, and on Day 3 she stood still for 30 minutes not moving, looky-looing, or fidgeting with my non-horsey SO holding her on a very loose lead. Day 1 she was turned out in the roundpen for the first time since she'd been there, she didn't even trot until I went in there and got after her with a whip, she just looked around for food and stood waiting for me to come be with her. Nothing phases her, great ground manners.
She will be started undersaddle next week, just as a secondary option for a future home. Although due to her weight, she'll be ridden bareback until I feel she can safely wear a saddle without fit and pain issues.
More updates!!! Her half-sisters out of same dam Sadair Royalty are both AQHA producing broodmares. I'm trying to locate more information on their foals. Hope's dam-sire (Sadair) has produced a few eventers, and Eventing leading sire in 2005 on USEF (Full of Tricks). And her sire's sire (Timeless Moment) has produced a few OTTB turned A circuit hunters. She's got the blood!! And she's got the proof!!

She is absolutely lovely, and it sounds as though her personality matches that lovely exterior packaging! Good luck finding her the perfect home.
I not-so-secretly wish you knew if she wanted to be a foxhunter ;)

Do you think she would be quiet enough to be a lesson horse? I'm in Clemson as well so could take a look at her very easily, and I really like her, but to justify bringing another horse onto the farm she would need to be able to do a few lessons and quiet enough for my boyfriend to ride the trails with me.

asb - Not-so-secretly I was going to try foxhunting (well at least hunter pacing her) if she stuck around with me that long... so yes... I think she'd make a great one. Not sure how "fast" she'd go, she's very la-di-da, but I can see it in her.
Kristi - She's got the temperment for lessons. You are welcome to look at her anytime just PM me.
ETA: Rode her bareback with a halter and two leads today (yes I wore a helmet just in case! LOL) and she stood like a saint for my lil' 5'1" self to literally climb on b/c the mounting block was still too short. Then we walked around, she had good steering, responded to light leg aides, and whoa'd! It was only about 5-10 mins because her boney spine was killing my butt!
ETA again: Spoke with her breeder who said her brother and two sisters (all by same dam) are all now local circuit hunters. Her sisters came back from mommyhood to show, she could too. She did have an injury as a yearling that will limit her to flatwork and lower fences (2'6), but she'll be no maintaince.

UPDATE!
Hope has been going well bareback poking me along in the ring. Had a full-cheek snaffle on her and she remembered exactly what a bridle was and lowered her head for me to put it on. She will probably be better in a Dr. Bristol or Happy Mouth double jointed snaffle, she seems to have a light mouth and wasn't too happy about me fussing too much.
Will be a wonderful tag-a-long husband horse or w/t lesson horse. Right now I can't fully assess how sound she will be when she is fully up to weight and fit. She's got a puffy ankle (old windpuff) and her older hip injury that seems to make her stiff when stalled too much (but NOT lame). However, with 24/7 turnout she may be completely sound for much more riding. She does seem to move much better at 5 in the afternoon than 10 in the morning (she's stalled 7pm-5am right now).
She is gaining weight ridiculously fast!!! Looking great with everyday she sheds and that copper chestnut comes out and her topline is almost back to par! Super easy keeper once she's actually given food!!
Needs a good home, temporary or permanent. My 4 yr old is being neglected and I've come to terms I can only afford board on 1 down here with me at school and it's not fair to him, and parents refuse to take one in once one leaves. She will be safe until she finds a home, but I'm sure someone would LOVE a SUPER QUIET trail buddy right???

New Update!
Hope is still gaining weight, although still about 150 lbs of mass lighter than what I'd like. She is back under full tack. Going quietly w/t/c, knows her leads (haven't tried changes yet) is good with other horses in the ring, but makes faces when approached too close. Hope clearly has had some professional training in the past. She leg yields, bends when asked, very good about feeling the rider's seat. She is easily quiet enough for lessons, but due to her being sooo underweight and out of shape her stamina is only about 20 mins right now. Spook free!
She's shedding into a beautiful copper chestnut with flaxen mane. She will be shown in May at a schooling show if I still have her. She really needs a forever home at a smaller farm that can cater more to her needs, the big boarding barn is keeping her healthy and safe but probably not ideal in her mind.

Yea know it just chaps my a$$ :mad:that this mare is in this situation, with all she produced you'd think the people she produced for would find her a forever home or provide that themselves. Good for you to help out this gal!!

Posted new photos on her webshots. She now looks racing fit! Every bit of calories that we are putting into her is going straight to muscle! She will always have shark fin withers, but her topline is really filling out and her hindend has that great definition. Her baby belly is also gone!
She's been recently wormed, and if she finds a good home in the next month I will pay for her shots and vet certificate, she has a new coggins already.
She has been switched to Seminole Perfect 10 feed and is doing really well on it. She should be back up to weight by first of May. Gotta get the ribbiness gone and a bit more filling out. She is being ridden 3x a week (or as weather will allow) for a 30 minute hack. We have played with crossrails and she doesn't bat an eye.
She needs an re-rider or trail home if no one is looking for a broodmare! Three of the older trail ladies at the barn love all over her and wish they found her before they bought their horses!
She is listed on ONE site "for sale" but that is only to attract local people who may be interested and still weed out teenagers, tire kickers, and dealers - those who don't frequent COTH b/c this and word of mouth is the only place I've "marketed" her thus far. She is still FREE though (good home obviously) and references will be checked regardless :)
