View Full Version : NoVA Folks: Questions About Sabrina Droescher-Nightsong Farm

Hey Guys,
Recently a local hunter/jumper trainer offered to help me sell a horse. Has anyone had any dealings with Fran Droescher at Nightsong Farm? I don't know anything about her or her horse business. We buy hay from the same source, so thats how I got her name. Other than that I don't know anything at all. I would appreciate any feedback, especially PM's if you feel uncomfortable replying publicly.
Thank you all very much!

I don't know the woman or anything about her but did a tour of her website - the only thing I can say is that she needs to get a new helmet and some of her sale horses looked very cute...

I know Sabrina from shows and she seems to be very good (and enjoys) young TB's. She has one of the best eyes I've even seen for getting "the perfect spot" to a jump. However, I have never bought or sold anything through her, so I can't comment about that end of it.

There is a "Nightsong" that posts here - maybe that is her?

I met her before. Seemed very nice. She really enjoys the young TB's . and was a hard worker. A little " rough around the edges". But hey who isn't?

I'm only vaguely familiar with the business since I've never dealt with anyone associated with it personally. If you want a "personal" opinion, talk to Anyplace Farm, since she knows the trainer personally and I am sure she could answer any questions you have if nobody who posts here is part of the business.

I heard she left her farm?? I'm talking she dissappeared and all her horses and students are still there with no trainer? Anyway, I don't know if that is true-just what I heard. That would suck if it is true...poor horses...and students.

I do not know all the details, but I would hope that people would send positive thoughts her way and pray for her and whatever it is that she's going through. Also, pray for her roommate who has been given the power of attorney to deal with everything.
What I know is this: Yes, she is missing. Yes, her horses are being sold. Yes, it is a horrible situation. Yes, something must have happened to her to make her give up her beloved animals the way that she has. What I have been told is that things drastically fell through for her financially, and this is from someone who knows her quite well and who was just at her farm last week. Those who know her are just praying that she is OK and that she will return.

Never had any direct dealings but I did try to contact her about a horse for sale a couple of years ago and she wouldn't answer my calls or emails. I usually mark those off my list for future dealings.

Nobody seems to know where she is but she did leave a note. What it said, I do not know, but it would seem that the note does not divulge any information as to why she has disappeared and it did not indicate any intentions of committing suicide. On the worst-case scenario side of things, it does not look good at all but I only say that because I've learned enough about things like this to know that what you see in front of you is not always what it seems so let us hope for the best. Assuming she is by herself, unless she took her credit cards and a good amount of cash with her, she is likely nearby. Tracking credit card and bank account usage is one way that people who go "missing" are often found or at the very least followed though I don't even think the police have really gotten involved at this point.

Credit cards, her cell phone, and her truck were left behind. IIRC, once the landlord got wind of things, he said that everyone is to be out by August because he has new people moving in. Her poor roommate has been left scrambling to sell horses, which she couldn't do until last week because of all the legal paperwork involved. I think there were about 50 horses there, and most of the riding horses are sold already, including Streetwise. As of Saturday, a lot of nice broodmares (some in foal) and several young, unbroke horses were left needing homes.

Uh, very very strange to have this thread dredged up by a brand spanking new poster. It must have been on page 104 or something. What a "random" thought to ask "isn't she missing?"

That's very upsetting and unsettling. I was under the impression she simply walked out from what was being said in discussion. Aside from taking on the horses, is there anything that can be done to help get things sorted out before the new people move in?

How many horses are left, do you know? I hate the thought of any horses going to auction. Is there anything people can do to help more?

Sabrina was given a horse by some friends of mine about 13 years ago as part of a mandatory Loss of Use Insurance surrender (horse was an upper level event horse, and back then the only option on payout was surrender to a third party).
"Frisbee" would be in his early to mid 20s, and when I lived in the east, I saw Sabrina and her students showing him in the local jumpers many times. He was pure white a decade ago, so I'm sure he is even whiter now. Given his age he may be long dead by now as well, but if he's not I can see how he wouldn't be the easiest placement in an emergency.
If Frisbee needs a home someone PM me and I can put you in contact with his previous owners--don't know if they could take him, but they certainly could help place him, or at least give him a safe peaceful, end.

I hope she is okay also. Someone said they did not think the police had been contacted? They need to be contacted yesterday. Is there something that people in the area can do to help?

All any of us can do is keep an eye out for her and to not approach her if she does turn up so that she doesn't go to ground. From what I've heard, nobody around here knows her intimately enough to have any sort of idea where she might have gone so it will be difficult to find her if anyone is bothering to look anywhere. As far as the police go, it does qualify as a missing person's case despite the note but a significant amount of time has gone by since she disappeared, and there seems to be no real involvement on their part from my inquiring. Those two facts along with her apparent abandonment of any resources she had means she won't show up until she decides to come back or someone comes across her wherever she may be.

I heard last weekend that the police have been contacted. Hopefully, that is correct information. I wonder how seriously they will take it, though, since she left a note, etc.

What about help with the horses? Is the roommate caring for all of them herself or do they have helpers?

So you all just start printing that there is a note. Uh.. where? To who. I do not think there is an official notice of a note. There are however people that have taken in her horses. Many are very concerned about her whereabouts. She left all behind including her dogs from what i understand. That is not like her from all reports. I hope that the police are taking this case seriously.

I just got off the phone with the police department. There is no missing person report. I honestly and truly do not care where Sabrina is just so long as she is safe. If she doesn't want to be contacted, so be it. The circumstances just seem very, very odd. I'm following up tomorrow morning with the police department. Her roommate is a fantastic person for handling this and I don’t want to make things harder on her if she is just trying to protect Sabrina. However, Sabrina is not one to just leave her animals on a whim, so I’m more than concerned that something terrible has happened. I think a lot of people are just being nosey and don't actually care about Sabrina. That is only making the situation more complicated.

I only know Sabrina because I sold a horse to her many years ago and since then we have had a friendly relationship because she did right by a very difficult horse. This thread is the first I have heard about her dissapearing and I agree that it is really unlike her to dissapear and leave her animals. For those of us who care about her and will worry about her, I hope this has a postitive outcome.

According to those who know her, she had apparently left a note for someone to find but since this hasn't turned into any sort of a manhunt, only the roommate and whomever she told know what the contents of said note is. As far as the police are concerned, if there is in fact a note and no mention of suicide, then they won't get involved. Especially since the trail is long cold if there ever was much of one. From what I've been told, she's been AWOL for about two weeks or so which means the police will only put up a missing person's bulletin and do a cursory investigation to gather facts for it if nobody comes forward with compelling evidence that she is in danger.

Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on the situation and the people involved) there is no reason for the police or anyone official to locate someone who just walks away as long as they are an adult as long at it's voluntary. I was shocked at the number of adults that apparently leave everything behind and start a new life by leaving everything behind and starting over-the numbers amazed me. I hope the situation works out the best way it can for all concerned.

I would not place too much stock in the existence of a note--even if there was one. This business is populated with plenty of people who for one reason or another are not in regular everyday contact with immediate family and friends...but I have never heard of anyone simply going out the door and not coming back to even fetch the dog. Way odd, and I hope she is ok.

I watch TV assiduously  and this doesn't pass the smell test.
She has been gone for 2 weeks and already she is being kicked off the farm and her horses are being/have been sold?
Even if she had been months behind on her rent, a landlord still has to go through an eviction process. He cannot make a roommate sell that many horses and move in 2 weeks.
One does not have to be an attorney to know about the eviction process. Enough people know about it that the roommate would have been told her rights.
I smell collusion here.
This is not a person who decides to go to Brazil to avoid extradition for a violent crime. This is a horse person in deep financial doo doo -- as are a lot of people in this economy. She has the ability to declare bankruptcy and start again.
Even if she is not mentally stable -- which has been alluded to here -- no animal lover leaves her dog behind.
Wallet, money, credit cards (if she is so in debt, how does she still HAVE credit cards?), clothes, lifestyle -- yes.
Dog? -- no. :(
Definitely foul play....

Yes, I noticed that too, we never confirmed if it is in fact her, did we?
Regardless, as someone already mentioned, it is a long, tedious process to get evicted, much less start selling off possessions (horses) within just 2 weeks of someone's disappearance. There is something fishy about all of this.

did all of her horses go to auction recently? i heard this recently in md about someone who was getting rid of all their horses b/c they abandoned their farm - but i never knew the story behind it - did she have some warmblood show horses?

I was asked if I would be interested in some of the horses, when I questioned whether they could be dispersed - I was told she had signed over power of attorney to her roomate with the landlord having a 3rd party interest (due to money owed) and all proper legal channels had been followed. It does not appear four play is involved. As of yestarday, the landlord was still looking for someone to take over the place.

It seems as if the horses are being sold dirt cheap; much less than they are valued.... I know that Streetwise and Hollywood Coosa were sold but can anyone give me some background on Streetwise? He seems so nice and quiet in his stall as well as the colt.

I'm glad to hear that she's safe now! Does anybody know what happened to her farm/horses??
BTW...There was one person "suspicious" of me for having started this thread after just creating my profile...it is because right after I heard about her dissappearance I googled her name and this thread came up-so I wanted to post. Like I said, I've only met her once at a horse show before. Again, glad to hear she's ok.....
