What length stirrup leathers would you suggest for someone who is right at five feet tall? I would think 48", but what do you think? I guess I just assume the 54" would have way too much excess.

Probably 48" would work for you. I am 5'4" and my 54" leathers have lots of "leftover" - I wish I had thought to buy children's leathers instead.

I'm 5'4" and I have 48" leathers. With 54" leathers I am always at the top hole (or have to wrap or punch extra holes) The 48" length have just enough excess to go through the keeper, so I think you would be good. I have stumpy legs. :D

I'm 5'2" and I ride in 48" on the top three holes, depending on which horse I'm riding and what activity I'm doing. Some of my leathers aren't stitched so they stretch, and I end up having to punch holes at the top to make them short enough. I ride like a jockey though.

I'm 5'5" and I use the 48" leathers. I hate all the extra hanging out.

Also 5'5" and riding in 48" leathers. Only issue for me is when my trainer rides in my saddle, they can be a little short for him (the excess doesn't reach the keeper on the flap). But I hate having those flapping straps hanging down.

I'm 5'2" and use the childrens' leathers. Perfect fit, perfect amount of strap hanging off the back.

I'm 5'2 and use the 42" ones. There's still a little bit that hangs off my saddle, so I just tuck it under when I show. I've ridden in my old trainer's saddle with the 54"s and had to wrap them two times just to get to the leathers short enough.

I am also 5'2 and I use 48" stirrup leathers. There is enough to reach the keeper and it works very well for me.

I'm 5'1", and I use the 48" leathers. There is just enough leather left over to reach the keeper and stay there neatly.

I'm 5" and use kids leathers as well. There is enough left over to reach the keeper. I don't like it when there is a ton left over.

Just adding to the chorus - there is no shame in kids' leathers :) I just had a leather guy cut down and punch more holes in the adult leathers I'd optimistically bought at age 12 thinking I'd continue to be tall. Hah! Haven't grown an inch, and was tired of riding at the top hole. I refuse to wrap at this age.
