Hi
I am redecorating my house and I would like to find some more good horsey artwork - pictures, statues, etc.
What cool pieces have you found my fellow COTHers?

If you plan on going to the Rolex this year there is always great art to buy. Actually the Horse Park Museum store has a nice selection too.

I don't know if you're looking for originals or reprints, but Art.com and AllPosters.com has some nice stuff. Once you put them in a nice frame, you can't tell the difference.

Thanks to all that have replied!
While I can definitly appreciate original artwork (fabulous links btw), I would rather spend $5 or $10 thousand on a real horse or horse gear and not something I would hang on my wall. I hope I have not offended anyone!
Thanks for the links Moonwich! I will check it out.

I have a bunch of framed WIHS posters that are really colorful and fun. Last year's is on sale for $10 http://www.wihs.org/wihs-merchandise/ and I bet if you call them, they may offer posters from other years that aren't available on their website as well.

Here is an artist I just found recently. We are getting together in a couple of weeks to do an Art and Dinner day. I'm really looking forward to it!

I found some great stuff on eBay a while ago. Some jockey prints that were very nice, but the best stuff I found were old magazine covers. Like, really old. I got two covers with beautiful sidesaddle drawings on them from, I believe the 1800s.

The photos don't do them justice and I didn't spend what I should have on the matting and framing, but I just wanted to get them up on my wall. When I have the money I'll do something fancier with them.

I dont know what price range you would like to find things in, but Horse Country always has some neat pieces they go fairly quickly. As i was in there not long after the catalog came out with a few antique pictures and they were wrapping them getting ready to ship out. They have some neat things, some antique one of a kind sorts and some not. They had a really neat set, if i had the money i would have bought. Two pictures one horse tacked up in sidesaddle tack and the same horse in the next picture in field hunter tack, i believe.

Colleen Barry is an artist in New York and I've seen some of her work. It's really beautiful and I wish she had more examples of her work featuring horses on her site.

At some point, I'd like to commission her to do some portraits.

Clare Christie does lovely work in all price ranges, originals and prints. I really like her color washes. She also does lovely sculptures (large and small). Those are much more expensive, but the smaller ones are reasonable.
Unfortunately, her website only has her sculptures on it, but the gallery site linked to below has some of her prints.

I have one of her prints very nicely matted and framed. Beautiful colors and her original work is textured and it shows through on the print (original work-- she uses items related to the horse she is painting, so dirt from the horse's arena, magazine clippings about the horse, hair, etc and adds them to the canvas and then paints over them-- very cool).

I love this woman's work. She does a lot of commissions but also was chosen for the Hampton Classic poster one year.

I definitely second checking out the WHS site for previous year's posters. Hampton Classic too.

Aren't they great? I think the black and white one is from 1906. I can't see the date on the pastel one in the picture I took and I'm at work now. I love re-purposed art like that, and I loved that those prints were real ACTUAL covers -- that they were purchased and read by someone so long ago. I think I actually bid on the whole magazine, but I can't say that I remember where I put the rest of the pages after I framed the covers...
The best part was I think they were probably under $50 each. I bought them while I was just out of college, so I can't imagine I would have spent more than that on "art" for the sake of "art!"
For example, how neat is this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/1949-New-Yorker-Oct-22-Equestrian-Jumping-Exhibition_W0QQitemZ170293049785QQcmdZViewItemQQpt ZMagazines?hash=item170293049785&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50 ?

if you like vintage items it is always a great idea to cruise the flea markets for old magazines. i found a 1934 original miller's "horse map of the world" fold inside an old book once. it is one of my treasures.
also, if you don't mind defacing a book, ronnie mutch's book of drawings are all suitable for framing. his caricatures are whimsical and also interesting for non-horsey people since they are are so entertaining.
i LOVE ebay for items like this. also, you might really consider creating a shadow box trio of items..... an old pair of gloves...vintage stock pin, antique hoof pick, spurs, smaller photos pasted on the back, ...make a very pleasing arrangement and also add depth to your walls.
this is a great photo in a quality frame.

I'm in my office looking at the two fabulous Hampton Classic posters that I have framed...head to their site (www.thehamptonclassic.com) and look in the posters store section on the "shopping" tab. They have some really neat ones from years past. Oh, and pictureframes.com is terrific for getting them framed :o)
Have fun!

Much less realistic, but if you like the expressionist style of art, there are some very good Franz Marc horse prints that you can get inexpensively from online art and poster stores.
