Color you painted gates?

With all this talk of painting gates, what color have you painted your gates? We painted ours forest green but we need to repaint this summer. I'm curious as to what other colors folks are using?

My barn colors are hunter green and tan, and I'm planning on putting hunter shutters on the house, which is brick and stone. So I wanted the gates to match the shutters!!

Same here. Barn is tan with hunter green trim and roof. Gates are all hunter green.

Ours were OSHA yellow, when an exploration company required all cattleguards had to be that color and left us several gallons.

That paint lasted many years, until it started flaking and we went back to the stable colors, that are white, black and turquoise and the stall doors and gates ended turquoise.

We eventually tired of that and now most are silver aluminum paint, or whatever color they came in, mostly dark green.

The gates are dark brown -- same color as the trim on the house and barn.

Well, the pasture gates are. The ones on the lane are black. I painted the pasture ones red so I could see if they were closed from the house. ;)

Mine are galvanized, never painted and they'll stay that way.

I'm too lazy to keep up dyeing my hair, so I know I'd have lousy looking gates if I painted them.

Seriously, I think the galvanized is a clean look for the gates and a lot less work for me.

I've been debating over black like the fencing or Red because it's snazzy. I think you just settled it...

Our barn is red and I've debated over changing our forest green gates to a barn red? It might have a more cohesive look?

There's a farm around here with purple gates. It looks pretty neat, I have to admit :lol:.

Me too. I have bull gates near the barn.

I had no idea people were supposed to color coordinate their gates. I just buy them based on what I need. Bull gates (green) where I need really strong gates - and the rest whatever the feed store has.

I guess I should be embarrassed....

Oh, yeah. It works really well. :)

I get a firm in who spray paint them with some weather proof stuff. Lasts ages!

JSwan I'm not!!!!! Also have some gates made out of barb wire and 2 x 4's and some out of High Tensile wire. I was just trying to count the number of gates we have on this place and I think its a total of 57.

Oh - good old wire gates!!! Lots of those around here; lots of dairy's and cow/calf and beef operations. Very practical but impossible to open and close from horseback. :lol:

I can't do it but my ex wife could open and close one not only on horseback but while carrying a load of laundry in a basket!!!!!! But she was the best horse rider I've ever known.
