A friend of mine went to a seminar, offered by a local feed company. It focused on Progressive's products. I read the handouts- and, along with EqT banging their drum for awhile  I thought I would delve a little deeper.
My horses currently look marvelous...OK...Hairy, but marvelous. I feed a very low Carb diet- across the board. I have one gelding who has weight issues, but he is a rescue, who came in severly debilitated, and sicker than sick, and he looks great- but still needs weight- which, I hope, will come with time. He is the anomaly around here. The rest are probably too fat for most peoples taste
What are your experience with Progressive's products? Is it true that less is more- for all horses? How do the $$ shake out?
Thanks!

Dan was on Progressive when he came to me, so I stuck with it of course. As you know he was a big guy! But he needed relatively little of the GB and Envision to maintain condition.
The rest of the barn was on Nutrena and the amount of feed they were getting in comparison was shocking. The TB next to him was 16hh, and slimmer than Dan, and getting huge quantities of Empower and Safe Choice and he was still ribby.
Dan looked absolutely fabulous, and had wonderful feet. Cost wise, even with the shipping, it was comparable to other feeds because you needed less of it.
Win is on Blue Seal at the moment, and doing fine. Simply because he is on such a small amount... and with the Progressive, in order to get it drop shipped you have to order a minimum of 500lbs I think. For me, it would mean a lot of bags sitting around for a long time. I have been begging a few local feed dealers to start carrying it!!

Since you asked...my experience was very bad...both in results to the feed on my horses and my experience in dealing with the company. If you want more details, search on my old posts related to soy or send me a PM. I won't air specifics in the open forum but will be happy to in private.

I've had good experiences with Gringo being on it. He's on 1 lb of the ProAdvantage Grass Formula daily for about a year and a half. He's doing really well. Maintaining his weight (if not a bit heavy right now) just fine and it's mainly just a carrier for his supplements and to balance out his hay. No issues with him at all. Love the product. Don't deal with the company itself because I found a local dealer :D.
ETA: A 50lb bag that runs $29.00 lasts about, wait ... you guessed it, 50 days. Runs about $ 0.58 a day for him. Pretty cheap for me anyways.

When I contacted Progressive about having their products drop-shipped, they told me that I could get any amount.
If I were able to more easily get Progressive, I would use it. However, the means by which I could currently get it just make using Progressive unfeasible currently.

I appreciate all of the input!
I will get pricing, and figure out a bit more about what I would use, and how the $$'s look.
I don't have any interest in farm visits, or a personal relationship with the reps. That's just me....but I appreciate that others migt find it useful and interesting.

I actually think mine look better on the Blue Seal LS Vintage Performance....coats look healthier, mare is filling out more.
I think Progressive is an excellent product, but for my two, I think Blue Seal is a better product.

Well, currently, Blue Seal LS is the core feed of my program, as well. But, it is always good to consider the alternatives!
Thanks all!

I thought mine did really well on PN grass ration balancer, but I've switched to Horse Sense and I noticed that my mares don't look as "puffy". I think it was the soy in the PN. I've had some issues off and on with getting a bad bag of PN that the ladies didn't want to eat. I tried the complete feed at one point with one of my fillies and it caused her some stomach discomfort so we stopped feeding it. Then she was fine. Go figure.
McCauley feeds makes a balancer that is similar:M30.
I do think that the Horse Sense is better balanced.

I use Progressive and I love it. The cost, however, is just too high for me to use it on all of my easy keepers. Most of my horses look fabulous on just pasture and hay in winter. It is the tough ones - the TB broodmare, the 24 year old, and the babies that I have on PN. My advice to you is that if you have a nutritional program that is working, don't change it! :)

I use PN Pro grass formula on my WB mares, pregnant WB mares and my WB foals and youngsters. I have been using a RB for several years and when I think back to how much grain I was feeding some of the large pregnant ladies in their last 3 months of pregnancy it is frightening... some as much as 18 lbs daily. Now with PN I am feeding only 2 lbs, with a 1lb of envision and now during the winter a little BP.
I have tried to feed the ponies a ration balancer but honestly find they carry too much weight for them and that is only feeding 1 cup to 1lb daily. So with the ponies I have gone back to feeding a 14% protein, low fat pelleted feed by KER. Maybe if the ponies were in hard work it might be different.

I like the Progressive feeds for several reasons:
They sent out a nutritionist to my barn for free. She looked at my 6 month old colt and mature horse, developed a feed plan and gave me her cell phone number if I had any additional questions as time went on. They were great to deal with.
Their formulation doesn't change. Most feed suppliers change their formulations to fit what's cheapest in the market. Take a look at the labels...you'll see "Feed may contain the following". I like my horses getting the same grain ingredients vs. what's cheapest at the moment.
