That darn rodent, again he said 6 more weeks. It is a conspiracy. I think if we all use our collective powers we can wish, even if it is in our heads for spring. I don't know about the rest of your but I am SICK of this cold white stuff. Only good thing , less ticks this yr.
I am jingling, who's with me?

Daisey-Bogie,
I understand this completely, I'm in southeast PA also, in the very corner of the state southeast Chester County even. I skated to my barn for 2 days and because now the ground is so wet I can't drive on it to get close to it and my outside hydrant is frozen and I have to walk through deep mud to get to the other hydrant. It's just a big mess. I'm willing to join a conspiracy to shoot Phil, anyone have directions to Puxatawney? Maybe we should just hope for an early retirement. Could he be wrong? What are the stats of his predictions??? :sigh: Whatever happened to global warming, don't we need a bit of warming? Actually I understand that we are really headed for another ice age rather than warming, the sun is dying. Oh, no, anyone else have more good news?

OK, the good news is that spring is just around the corner, flowers will bloom, horses will be ridden, grass will grow again beneath their hooves and teeth, we just have to wait a bit longer. It could be worse, NAH, just trying to make you feel better, it's awful! I'm so tired of winter. But wait till it's nearly 100 degrees and I'll be begging for cold relief.

http://www.stormfax.com/ghogday.htm (http://www.stormfax.com/ghogday.htm) The groundhog's seasonal forecasting accuracy is somewhat low.
Phil's Winter prognostications have been correct only 39% of the time.

I don't trust the darn rodent...well any rodent for that matter.

At the beginning of Feb there will always be 6 more weeks of winter here...

Hey, what are you complaining about? Here in western NY we won't see spring until mid May!!! And that's IF we are lucky... :( So it really doesn't matter whether or not that stupid rodent saw his shadow. :sigh:

Besides, groundhogs, raccoons, and possums are critters I actually aim my car at if I see them on the road! :D

It doesn't seem to make any difference if the damned rodent sees its shadow - one way it is 6 more weeks of winter, the other, another month and a half.

What does it mean when the grouse see THEIR shadows and are staring in the kitchen window??

39% would be far more accurate then our local human weather guessers. They are saying warm up...I shall buy more ice melt based on their accuracy the last 6 weeks or so.

And Puleeeze do not tell me they got the ice storm right. Not even 3 days out did they have a clue. Then 48 hours out they got the idea there might be a problem. Now are bragging they knew 24 hours out.

I dunno, when I moved here I figured they had 2 or 3 days to watch the weather come at us. Does not seem to help. And I do understand about the freeze line but...to listen to them trumpet they were right when they changed the previous forcast only the day before?

They missed IKE coming up the Ohio valley as well.

I'll take Phil and Beauregaard.

I think the darn rodent just goes back into his hole because its warm and there are no paparazzi. Maybe if we replaced him with a her and called her Paxatony Paris, she'd stay out to have her pics taken.

This area in and around Delaware, south east PA, MD to DC always have issues with the iceline. But ice can happen anywhere, we are just living in the in between states. Just have to complain, it's human nature. We usually survive, very inconvenienced, sometimes dented or worse.

We'll get over it, and in the summer we'll complain about the heat or worse, a drought.

I think you have it right, most guys just want to scratch someplace and go back to bed or watch football. LOL

Where is Paris when we need her?

Well the groundhog on Staten Island did NOT see his shadow. So I think I'll go with his prediction instead of Phil's. :)

NOOOO!
Spare Puxatony Phil.
He was only following orders. It wasn't his idea. He didn't mean it. It was another groundhog, The dog ate the real weather report,
Don't do in Phil.
He doesn't deserve to die.

But I did just hear on the news that he bit Mayor Bloomberg.

Stella (the dog) is campaigning hard for the mission to kill all groundhogs, famous or not. She said today that it is stupid that there is a day totally devoted to their silly whims, and really thinks it is just one more reason she should just finish off the whole species. She'd be happy to oblige the death to the groundhogs call.

I am finally getting new tires on my car as the tread is getting a little  too thin to get around in the snow. I figure now it will warm up and the new tires won't be as neccesary :winkgrin:.

Who at least noticed before they were bald this time .

For those ready to lynch Phil - have no fear! Us Pennsylvanian's have a back-up groundhog: http://www.character-shop.com/gus.html :D

You can take him out too but we'll just rebuild him!! No way gettin' around it...the calendar says Spring doesn't officially arrive for 6 more weeks so rodent predictions or not - it's still gonna be winterish!

There is a large part of me that wishes we could go from the land of ice and snow (the big meltdown yesterday made the ice way worse--I can barely get around without falling :( ) directly into June! Why you ask? The mud that follows all this snowy/icy nonsense is far, far worse!! My riding ends by the end of October and doesn't start again until some time in May - @#%&*$! mud!:(

Ice is gone, mud is here. I found new groundhog holes, in a pile of stone dust of all places, it's a mound of stone dust, why would they dig in that? Better than my pasture or trail. Last spring a groundhog popped out of the hole and chased my friend on my horse, he scurried away, but wow. Here I am worried about snakes, it's the freakin' groundhogs you have to worry about. I'm posting my property, "No Wildlife Allowed"
