I was at USA Today's superbowl test group tonight (150 in Vienna, VA and 150 in Oregon I believe)...$100 to sit through the game, food, desert etc....to rate the commercials. This will be announced tomorrow in their paper.

Guess who didn't win? Budweiser.

Guess who did win? That stupid throw the snow globe into your bosse's crotch commercial.

How pathetic...it's Funniest Home Videos as a commercial. Gotta' admit, looking at a bunch of the people who were there, I'm not really surprised.

I saw that this morning, and was just .

I thought Bud was the sure winner.

How did you get to be part of the test group?

I thought that Dorito's snow globe commercial was inane. I did like the Clydesdale ones, but didn't think they were necessarily the best (although the circus one was very cute).

Budweiser commercials were cute, but certainly not the best. The Doritos commercial was good, but oh my God how did the box of flowers one not win? "NO ONE WANTS TO SEE YOU NAKED.":lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: I laughed so hard.

I did love the Bud commercials though. The one where the Clyde tried being a racehorse was pretty funny. We had the following exchange at the party I went to, where I either didn't know some of the people or had only met them once or twice:

Girl: You can't even ride Clydesdales! Why would they put that in?
Me: Well actually you can ride Clydesdales - at some draft shows they even have an under saddle class for them.
Girl: No, you can't, they're for pulling. I took riding lessons when I was younger, you can't ride them.
Me: . . . *considers how to phrase this delicately*
Our mutual friend: Girl, 00J probably rode her horse this morning. She has four and may or may not live in their stalls.
Me: Yeah, I did ride this morning.
Girl: Oh. So I guess you can ride them, huh?

:D:winkgrin: It was pretty funny and she was a really good sport about it. I invited her to come out and meet the beasts when the weather warms up.

How did you get to be part of the test group?

Got a call from Shugol Research in Bethesda, MD...food and money...they even were asking if I knew other people who might want to come. USA Today's been doing this commercial research for 11 years or so.

Pretty neat, next year, contact USA Today and volunteer.

I also liked the Coke commercial with all the bugs...pretty neat on a big screen.

I heard about the commercial winning-I'm very happy, it was filmed in the Batesville area, which is 10mi from me.
2 weeks ago, someone won the lottery in Lawrenceburg-which is 15mi from me!
Finally we're getting recognition:lol:

The bug commercial was very pretty. I also liked the flowers and Potato Head one. I about died when she switched out to the angry eyes.

I did not even watch the SuperBowl at all yesterday as I was dealing with trying to figure out what is wrong with my horse who had a bit of a bucking and rearing spree with me the day before. However, I religiously watch the morning news, and the Today Show interviewed the two guys who made the winning commercial. Apparently, both of them are or were unemployed and they spent only $2,000 to make that Doritos commercial. While I'm sure that there may have been better commercials shown yesterday, it sounds as though these two guys really needed the "break" that this commercial may have just given them.

I liked the one with the musle guys dancing in white suits. I think it was for a kind of drinking water. Maybe Gatorade?

The Clyde commercials were nice, just not as inspired as in years past. I could SEE my gelding doing the log trick, he has the same eyes! I always love seeing the horses, they look wonderful, do what is requested so well. Just the ideas they showed were not as "grabby" to stay in my mind. More "that's cute", not stupendous ideas like the football game, the colt pulling the wagon with help, or even the donkey. Needed more thought to be better, cause they were just, OK.

I thought most of the commercials were pretty flat. Not up to the calibre of past years. I liked the Dorito one with the "make it happen" when he bit a Dorito theme, plus the fact that guy got splatted on bus windshield after his various antics.

Liked the "runaway to the circus" clydes, and the 'heritage' clydes would've fit next to some of the old investment banker 'heritage' commercials (maybe that was the dig?)

Liked the Doritos one where the guy splatted on the bus.

Funny, I don't remember what the Swan Lake was was for either.

Missed most of the others. Was at work. Felt very, very old at half-time which I thought was not very good--was yelling vs. singing... :uhoh:

Swan Lake was for SoBe and to me, it was an incomprehensible mish-mosh. Started out amusing and just degenerated into eh?

I thought the best one was the Hulu/Alex Baldwin one.

The Clydes were very nice. Cute. A lot of CG, though, even though I admit I HAVE seen horses "fetch." The heritage one was cute, but if it was his grandfather who emigrated, why does his grandson still have an accent? LOL

Some of them seemed very mean spirited, though, like the talking flowers one.

And others were just annoying, like all the yelling CEO's - just to remind us how Hyundai is pronounced?

Two people hit by busses? Whatever.

Doritos sponsored an independent 1 million dollar amateur made commercial award and only aired the top 2, are you sure you are not mixing up a general rating of all commercials with the amateur made Doritos contest? Or did the amateur made Doritos ad top all the glitzy 3 million dollar plus cost of ad spots?
Good for them if it did-though I liked the guy getting hit by the bus Doritos ad better myself.

Sorry, thought the Clydsdale adds lacked heart and were silly/stupid.

Certainly NOTHING like years past when we were treated to sweet ads like last years "Rocky" or the previous years "I won't tell if you don't" where the colt pulls the wagon with his parents pushing from behind. Not even up to the generic Christmas ads with the wagon over the bridge in the snow.

And none of them ever topped the post 911 ad.

So, nope, compared to years past they were stupid/silly.

I did like the Mean Joe Green parody from Coke Zero. Couple of others made me laugh. Nothing like years past.

Waaaay to many promos and previews...although nice to see they finally put a date on the new Star Trek.

I was disappointed. But, then again, the game usually is dull and the half time show wanting despite big names. This time they both beat the commercials.

I just loved the Clydesdales. I didn't think the Doritos commercial was funny at all, just stupid.
The E-Trade with the babies was hilarious along with the Mr. & Mrs. Potato Heads.

The coke one when the insects steal the coke is really good. Lots of details.

The pepsi commercial when the bomb blew up was the worse.

The Clydesdale fetch commercial would have been better if he was fetching for a treat-- that's what I thought the outcome was going to be and then was very surprised with how it did end up ending.

I I liked the Dorito one with the "make it happen" when he bit a Dorito theme, plus the fact that guy got splatted on bus windshield after his various antics.

I liked that one too! And I liked the 'fetching' Clydesdale.

The winning ad - as an aside - was done by folks with ties to horse racing at Arkansas' Oaklawn Park

Trainer's daughter wins $1M for ad

Jayme Herbert, the daughter of Oaklawn-based trainer Burl McBride, and her husband, Joe Herbert, and his brother Dave produced what was voted the most popular commercial of this year's Super Bowl and for their efforts won a $1 million prize. The commercial featured two office workers, a crystal ball, and a Doritos snack machine.

"The first minute and a half of the game, they played it," McBride said.

The Herberts earned $100,000 just for having the commercial air. A later vote among fans ranked the commercial the most popular, which earned them the $1 million. McBride said Jayme and Joe had entered their commercial through a contest sponsored by Doritos.

Jayme is a school principal in Indiana, but graduated from Lake Hamilton High School in Hot Springs. Joe is a computer specialist, and for last year's Super Bowl won $10,000 for another commercial he produced for the Doritos contest, McBride said. McBride said he believed it cost the three about $2,000 to make the commercial.

"You wouldn't believe all the excitement this has caused," said McBride, who later this meet expects Jayme and Joe to come to the races at Oaklawn.

I didn't see the game, but saw the herding cats one on a later show. Thought it was a clever take on the expression "easy as herding cats".

My favorite was the Career Builder one with the woman pulling into the parking space and screaming. I've had a couple jobs like that. I was crying by the end of it, I was laughing so hard.:lol::lol:
