I bought a new mare 6 weeks ago and she was so greyhound skinny, I simply hid her under blankets, and fed her and fed her and fed her some more, and every time I'd peel those blankets off, I'd cringe and think - shoot! - she's maybe gained a pound or two but sure as heck nothing substantial at all, and I'd sigh and stick the blankets back on her again ...
This was her 6 weeks ago:

and now ... tah dah!!! ... 6 weeks later I can actually take a picture of her without being embarassed to show it! :)

Wow, amazing what a difference you can make in SIX weeks! She looked like one of those Akel Tekes in the first pic - they always look so gaunt to me. Cute mare - she's going to look lovely when she's totally filled out. And she is Sabino?

I LOVE her markings! Penny (name on picture?) is very nicely conformed! In the first picture it looks like she might have a belly spot? My fave - 4 whites, blaze and belly spot {have one of those myself!}. What are her bloodlines?
What was on the menu to help her gain weight?
Is it possible for you ta take a picture of her standing in a the same position as the first picture?

Thanks everyone. I am REALLY pleased with how quickly she has come along in such a short period of time ... she really chows down on her hay as well, so that helps a lot as well ...
I initially had her on Buckeye - a combination of 2 lbs of Alfa Grow N Win and 6 lbs of Trifecta per day, but then the Master Feeds rep asked if I was willing to try the Master Feed line on her instead, so we have switched her over to 2 lbs of Finishing Touch, 2 lbs of Podium and 4 lbs of the new All Sport feed per day and I am also giving her 1 lb of All Sport at night feed as well and that arrangement has really allowed her to put the weight on well
And I dont have any side view shots that I could take yesterday at all. Another head on shot and one shot from behind, but nothing from a pure conformation perspective at all ... I'll try and see if I can get any more taken today or tomorrow

TKR - what ELSE would you call a pretty shiny coppery girl like this one?! :D
Fantastic - she does have a white spot on her belly as well, but not 100% sure if it is a "oops!" spot or if there is actually pink skin underneath it ...
I think another 2 months will tell the tale again. Her frame is actually quite substantial and once she fills it out properly she will look entirely different once again ...
Thanks everyone. Most of you here know what a slog it is at times to get these skinny minnies in and get them looking presentable once more and how at times it looks like you are NEVER making any progress at all, so to get nice comments when you are finally making some headway, means a lot ... :)

I think she even looked great skinny - she just looked super fit, although picture can be sometimes deceiving.
She certainly does have loooooong legs :D

I agree, she was thin but hardly malnourished or looking poorly. Looks like a 3-day fit horse. She's a knockout. :)

But ~ I think she's all wrong for you and I will gladly take her ~ and hug her and squeeze her and NEEE-VVVER let her go!
Seriously, wishing you much success with her.
