Anyone catch a glimpse or hear the rumors about the Clydesdale commercials for this year? Is there a link to see the new commercials or will that be put up after the game?

I'm in Pittsburgh so of course I'm glued to the TV! I can't even spare some time to watch the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet (well, I could but...) but as usual I'm watching the game more for the commercials than anything :D

Well, I'm pulling for the Steelers as well! My hometown was Johnstown, about 1.5 hrs to the east of Pittsburgh. While I'm not planning on watching much of the super bowl, I am taping it to play back and watch the commercials. :D

As for the Budweiser commercial, it's gotta be a good one.

I've been wondering the same thing - I saw a clip on the news late last week about superbowl adverts and thought they might mention something but noooooooooo. Tis the only reason I watch but don't tell anyone I said that ok! :D

The tribute they did for 9/11 took my breath away and made me feel a whole lot of things I can't put into words. And then there's the one where Hank (I think) gets knocked back with the words "maybe next year Hank" and he does his training to the Rocky theme ... actually I love em all

I thought the reunited lovers one as kind of cute, but found both to be pretty cheesy. I like the funnier ones like the snowball fight!

They just aired 2 of them nearly in a row!

First one is the Clyde is jealous of the dog getting treats for playing fetch so he goes and gets a whole tree practically

The second one is a cute lil white pony (Daisy) who is in the circus. She rubs noses over the fence with a Clyde then gets pulled away and put on a trailer. The Clyde broke out of his barn and went in search of her - so cute! She dumped her rider and one of the guys said "I didn't know Daisy was dating"

GO STEELERS!!!

I liked the Clyde fetching the tree for a treat, but the one with Daisy was silly. Didn't like it. We'll see what the third one brings!

I thought both commercials so far were cute in concept...but the CG work was HORRIBLE. The 'fetch' ad was especially badly done.

I expect that level of quality from the local cable ads, not from a multi-billion dollar company that's paying up the nose for a Superbowl spot.

Oh. Ok. There are 7 showing there and one "coming soon" which would make 8. They are showing a secret spot but that's not one they can put on TV! I wonder if they will have one more and if it'll be horsie or regular like the other commericals I apparently had no idea where even on!...I only pay attention to the animal ones ;)

As an aside - and horse related - on July 8, 1933, Art Rooney Sr. paid the $2,500 NFL franchise fee founding the Pittsburgh Pirates (they were renamed the Steelers in 1940) .. but he was able to hold onto the team how? Try horse wagering at Saratoga Springs Race course ;)

BloodHorse 1-20-2009 "The Legendary Football Team That Horse Racing Built" (http://cs.bloodhorse.com/blogs/thoroughbred-bloggers-alliance/archive/2009/01/20/The-Legendary-Football-Team-That-Horse-Racing-Built.aspx)

It all goes back to August 1936:

Art Rooney's winning streak began on an August Saturday afternoon at the Empire City track (later Yonkers harness track, which his sons purchased in 1972), and ended upstate on Monday at Saratoga. Rooney's first bet was $8,000 on 8-1 longshot Quel Jeu (the then-six-year-old 1932 Remsen Handicap winner eventually won 25 races in 140 lifetime starts) who won in a photo finish, and it was the first of five long-shots he hit among his seven (on an eight-race card) winners. Exactly how much money Art Rooney won that day hasn't been revealed, although every source agrees it was in excess of $100,000 ...

... in his book Art Rooney Jr. says:

"Madden and Lardner wrote that AJR cleared $256,000 at Saratoga that day. AJR told me it was more, but did not say precisely how much more. A friend of his, the director of racing at our Yonkers track, put the figure at $380,000. Other estimates are higher. Whatever he won, and the officials at Saratoga offered him a Brink's armored truck to carry the money back to New York City, he won it at a time when working men were supporting wives and children on as little as twenty dollars a week." (p. 38)

It wasn't to be the last of Rooney's big scores. As Gene over at EquiSpace noted (http://equispace.blogspot.com/2009/01/one-track-mind.html) recently, Time magazine reported on a $100,000 score at Aqueduct in September 1937 (although the Temple University Libraries Urban Archives reports the figure was $300,000-a photo of Rooney at the track is viewable here (http://www.explorepahistory.com/displayimage.php?imgId=5397).

So thank the race horses for "Steeler Nation" :D

Great find, Glimmerglass!

I've certainly never needed a Brinks truck on my way home from the track. More likely I've been looking for change in the car seats for gas money.

Wow! Thanks Glimmerglass! That's awesome! This city sure does owe the Rooney's (and horses ) a lot!!!!

No wonder I'm into both...guess it's in my blood :D Although, I'm much more of a hockey fan but for today we'll pretend it's football

Will there BE Budweiser Clydesdales next year?

Maybe InBev Clydesdales?

Worriedly watching the outcome of the InBev buyout. The fate of the Clydesdale for the various hitches and park displays and all the other animals at the Busch Parks (including all the Sea World Parks) is in question.

InBev may keep Clydesdale commercials, but what about all the actual Clyde mascots?

Maybe InBev Clydesdales?

I think that's why the third commercial was such a strong tie-in to European ancestry. As if they were saying, "See, foreigners aren't bad; many of our parents were immigrants." Several people at our party really picked up on that.

Being from, and living just outside, of St. Louis, I have a STRONG love for Clydesdales. InBev would be insane to drop them as mascots. But they certainly won't call me for advice.

No comments about the jumping form of the Clyde in the Daisy commercial? I thought he had tremendous scope and bascule and perfect form. Of course it was probably CG'ed, but they sure got it right, IMO.

I have a friend whose nephew works with the Budweiser Clydesdales. Her nephew told her the future of the Clydesdales is very much up in the air. Nephew was told the new brewery owners will not be keeping the horses or theme parks - they are actively seeking to sell Sea World, Busch Gardens etc and are interested in the brewery only. I don't know if this is true or not...but the nephew was told he would be out of a job with the Clydesdales by late Spring.

I'm pretty sure its her Ossining, NY farm where Conan, many years ago, worked at for a day (http://www.metacafe.com/watch/180352/conan_with_martha_stewart/) and Martha was critical of his grooming skills, etc

Yes, very sad and worrisome for all the people and animals involved. Busch Entertainment Corp is actually a very successful theme park operator, and the parks make money, but InBev spent so much on the buyout they want to sell the parks anyway to try to recoup some of their initial investment right away. However, in this economy, theme parks, even successful ones, aren't going to be a big seller. Witness the rapid demise and complete lack of bidders for Hard Rock Park in Myrtle Beach, SC.

So, what's going to happen to the Clydes for the many hitches A-B had, and the displays at the parks? What about the marine animals, birds, and other animals at all the parks?

Very, very unstable situation for a lot of people and animals. I'm very worried for all concerned.

Bedford? Didn't she try to copyright the town's name?
And that segment was hilarious, when Martha had Conan ride one of her friesians and he changed into the flowing shirt with the big sleeve, and he was afraid to feed the horses.

I liked both the "retriever" Clyde but my favorite Clyde commercial was the love story between the Clydesdale and the circus horse.

Conan was on her show a few years ago and they did quite a segment on her horses. Conan was hysterical dressed in period clothes with long hair riding one of her Freisans.

I have the chance every year to watch the SB with the same group of friends and this year we started a pool betting on the number of commercials in each category (beer, cell phones, soda, pizza, etc.)

We all agreed that these are by FAR the best (and some of the group aren't even horse folks. But as for me personally, I LOVED the third one the best.
