Maybe it's the fact that it's February and I have no horse to ride, but I can't stop reading, posting and searching the boards! Anyone else get obsessed every now and then? And isn't starting this thread just fueling the addiction?

Me. :)
I only go to this BB and a cardiology/medical one. People are MUCH more polite here! I've never been a wide-ranging type on the internet; I stay in my comfortable neighborhoods and COTH is one of them, dating back for-EVER.
Sometimes if I have even 5 minutes of down-time during a busy day, there's nothing like a quick trip to COTH to reset the brain button.

Well.... it weaned me off of ebay
I can always turn here for tons of knowledge, many laughs, and the feeling that there are lots of like minded folks who share the ups and downs, the joys and heartbreak, the visions and dreams, the beauty and the passions of having horses in our lives.
It's a comfortable kinship and many hard working, hands-on horse owners who know and share that indescribable draw that we have to this lifestyle. And I have to say lifestyle because it is about more than just the horses. I admire the tenacity, the toughness, the character that it shapes. I find most horse people to be attracted to it because they thoroughly enjoy the bottomless lifetime learning. I like the 'questing mind' personalities. And, oh, the sharp minded humor and biting snarkiness (when not meant to belittle or just to be mean) is even sometimes funny. Some very quick, and quirky ;),thinkers here.
It's a funny thing - you'd think that someone reduced to sitting at a screen to communicate would be a pathetic lonely creature. I feel the exact opposite here. I feel surrounded by bright witty interesting friends. And it really helps immensely because I am not boring my non-horsey friends with all of my horse dribble. I can get my daily fix here. :D

Yup  Well said...
I agree with all of the above; it's reassuring to find so many kindred spirits in one place!
And (despite the ocassional "Asshat"), I am always pleasantly surprised by how intelligent, witty, and well-informed most COTHers are (a few of them a bit "too much for their own good", but still...)
Definitely addictive, but not fattening, toxic, or bad for you in any way--other than (in my case) taking up the free time that I SHOULD be spending with my family. :uhoh: And I always have to hear about it...

MeMeMeMePickMe! I wanna be an adict to!
You can ask anything here (HR) and get an answer, and (sometimes) some snark for free. What a deal! And you get a quick answer cause everyones wasting time on the boards.
Sigh. Back to the kitchen to cook...Its too cold/snowy to ride btw even if you have a horse!

*meekly raises hand, hoping to really not be noticed*
DH gives me hell all the time, cause every time he comes upstairs, he runs to the computer, only to see COTH on the screen.
You all are right though, atleast it is not illegal, or fattening!
Spring is coming...

errr, me too :o
I've even pretty much switched alleigence from the UK equivalent Horseandhound.co.uk...
It's just so fascinating because you have much more diversity in terms of disciplines - Western, Hunter/Jumpers etc, diversity of geography, horse types it's a permanent learning curve. I can't tell you how much I've learnt from you guys - from the fact that pigeon fever is something that affects horses, to the fact you can use rice husks as bedding, you can compost a horse (that would cause national meltdown if you tried that in the UK!), the list goes on and on.
The only sections I feel I can remotely comment on are the horsecare questions - mostly it's just observing!
Oh, and you guys are generally a lot more accepting of different views etc. The UK boards are full of people leaving cos they feel bullied by other posters - I haven't seen that here. Very cool.
So, I'm addicted to the learning, addicted to the 'niceness', addicted to being able to zone out of the real (cold, wet and dark) world. Really, completely an addict.:uhoh:

I'm an addict, too. I never "lurked" first, so the first time I was snarked I was up all night worrying about what I did wrong!! It's fun trying to figure all the personalities-there are definitely people I'd love to have a cup of coffee with because they seem so cool from their posts. I also love the ability to trade ideas, ask questions and share emotions with people that I'll probably never have the chance to meet in "real life". From all that I've read on here, I've become more confident (and open minded) on my horsekeeping techniques. I'm in the process of writing a HR book and from the few months since I've been on COTH, I've really added alot to my knowledge base(it's quite humbling to realize you never know how much you don't know!!) Every time my family gives me crap about my time spent on the computer, I tell them it's market research for my book!! I am thankful for COTH-it is a great addiction!!(besides horses!)

My name is allpurpose and I'm addicted to COTH! I know this to be true because when I share COTH stories with my barn buddies, family, etc., I don't preface it with "Someone on the COTH board said..." anymore.
Now I just say, "My friend said..." I think I need an intervention!

Oh, I am such and addict, and it doesn't help that I have to spend all day in front of my computer at work anyway... I'm happily browsing coth while data downloads, etc.
I love the information, the helpfulness, the humor, and even the snarkiness. And just being able to talk to all the other crazy horse crazies out there.
I have to disagree that its not fattening though... as I'm sitting on my butt browsing the COTH forums instead of doing my daily walking or pilates. :D
