Help! Valentine's Day is approaching, and I need to come up with a suitably romantic foxhunting or horse-related item for my SO. So is the foxhunter who has everything, literally every foxhunting-related tchochke under the sun. I've already gotten him everything Horse Country has that's reasonably priced, and I probably need something more romantic anyway.
Is there anyplace around Middleburg ( or elsewhere, I could order over the Internet) that might have foxhunting or horse-related Valentines or V-Day gift items? Don't laugh, V-Day nearly killed the relationship last year and I don't want it to happen again!
Any creative ideas much appreciated....

Nice. Too easy, though, not "romantic" enough. Who would think a foxhunter (and a tough guy in general) would need all the hearts and flowers?

OK, now I've got it. Where can I get horse-shaped/themed/packaged chocolates? (No, not packaged by the horse. In a horse-decorated box or basket or something.)

There is a company that makes chocolates that actually are pretty good, and they are hunt themed. They have one with a fox, one with a hunter, etc, and you can get them in a nice cherry box with a hunt scene on it. The company also makes their chocolates in other themes, like boats, flowers etc.
I'll see if I can find the site but for some reason Grand Prix chocolates is popping into my head.
I bet someone will post it.
ok I found them on one site www.horseloversgifts.com but they don't have them in the nice box
I think Smartpak had them at one time, and Horse Country
eta Smartpak did have some of their chocolates but a very limited selection
also found them on www.chocolate.com I think they have the whole line
It's called Dark Horse Chocolates and the company that makes it is called Harbor Sweets. I used to get their catalog. If you get to their website you could probably get the whole line.

Last Valentine's Day my husband -- who is really outstanding at the horsey presents -- outdid himself. In a small red bucket -- useful for feeding -- he put all kinds of hunting and eventing related little things. Warm socks, hand warmers, a cool all in one tool for tightening and removing studs, horsey chocolates, after hunting mints, a bottle of port, etc. It was really fun, very sweet and romatic!! He did well this Christmas with the antique hunting crop... Good luck making this a better day than last year!

An antique book on foxhunting, a beautiful stock, cashmere socks.
There is always the Hermes tie

Jaegermonster--the chocolates are a definite! Great site, too.
Ware Whip--for the benefit of us foxhunting newbies, what makes a really nice stock ? SO has whipped in for years so presumably has a full wardrobe of them--is there a "must-have" for 09 like in H/J land:lol:
Thanks all!

You're welcome.
As far as the stock, they make some really pretty silk ones. I think Horse Country has a bunch, and some patterned ones. There was a thread here once about custom stock ties, if you search I'm sure you could find it. Personally I prefer the heavier cotton ones, I iron them so they look nice. I keep one for special ceremonial hunts so it doesn't get stained and rotate through the others.
One of our other whips gave me some stock ties when I first started hunting that were sort of doubleknit looking material, but felt more cottony, and they were great, but I have no idea where he got them.
You need to hunt too so you can learn about these things and be the product tester :)

Don't know where you're located, but how about a small gift and a romantic picnic in a favorite hunting spot? Under that gorgeous oak tree near the creek? Next to that giant coop in Farmer Jones' back field? If he's that romantic, I bet going the extra mile with the location will wow him!
If you can't be outside, light some candles, rent a horsey movie, and picnic in your living room on a beautiful horsey afghan from Horse Country.
Don't forget a flask of your favorite adult beverage! Enjoy! ;)

How about a gift cap with another local hunt or one a little further away? make a weekend out of it. Groom for him or go with him.
Stay in a B&B or romantic hotel/lodge or something. Take him for a hot tub soak & massage after hunting...then dinner...then........
Make a surprise out of it; don't tell him your destination!

How about a stock tie made out of Valentine's fabric? I can and will make them out of anything!

I don't usually come over here, but I saw the title of the thread and couldn't resist.
If your guy is a hearts and flowers kind of guy, then that is what you get him. Mine is that way, too. He gets a dozen red florists roses, handmade chocolates and a mushy Valentine's day card. Loves every inch of it! Or you could take him out for a candlelit dinner and the movie of his choice. Perhaps make arrangements to take lessons at his favorite barn, or on a horse of his favorite breed in his favorite discipline, tickets to see his favorite artist/band perform, etc. Any and all of it works, but above all, don't forget the roses! :)

You guys are the greatest!
RT66Kix--the stock ties are beautiful. I will PM you.
allpurpose and chief2--great words of wisdom, ladies. ( May I assume you're ladies? If not, I'm available:D) Especially the roses, you are so right.
Does anyone have any suggestions for horsey movies so we don't end up spending V-Day watching reality TV? I probably need a couple of alternatives because everything is always out around here. No Netflix or cable at either SO's or my place, unfortunately. (We spend it all on the horses:lol:!)

Search off-course - there have been a few discussions about horsey movies.
The Man From Snowy River is a good start!
Black Beauty (the one with Sean Bean) is another.

Suggestions for horsey movies:
National Velvet (with Mickey Rooney and La Liz Taylor)
Black Beauty (best on HD wide-screen. The scenery and horseflesh are breathtaking!)
Hidalgo
Seabiscuit
DO tell us what you decide to do and how the evening went with Mr. Fox Hunter...dying to know. ;)
