In another thread, riders were talking about wearing Spanx under britches (especially white). Well, I was Spanx-ignorant at the time. Now I've done my research and am interested! What version do most of you wear under britches? The ones that just go to the thigh? Or the ones that go to the calf? Do they stay in place when putting on britches?

I like the Spanx that go to the thigh (to my knee, actually ) and up around the ribcage (stays in place under a good sports bra). They don't budge when you pull your breeches on.

I wear the spanx that start at your normal underwear line and end just above the knee. They are fantastic under white breeches (get the nude shade, obviously). I've even started wearing them under my regular show breeches/schooling breeches b/c I've found the little bit of compression they offer reduces my muscle fatigue.

Are they hot? Would it be uncomfortable to wear in the summer?

I have the cheap version called assets, and I found that wearing them in 90+ heat made me more comforable than without.

Nope, I usually feel cooler after showing in them then without them. I have no idea why that would be but there it is. Just make sure you buy the correct size. My friend bought a pair after I recommended them for showing and she got a few sizes too small. She was in a whole lot of pain by the end of the day from lack of circulation  I'm not entirely sure how she even got them on. Apparently she thought they were one size fits all and grabbed an extra small pair!

They make Spanx in an X-Small?!?!?!?!
Shouldn't you not need them by that point?

I actually bought some tonight. I have a funeral to go to next week and thought no pantylines would be nice. I haven't tried them on yet but according to my height I was supposed to buy an XL which would go up to 215lbs I think. That is luckily way more than I weighh but I would rather they be a little big pound wise than too small height wise. I ended up buying the L, I'll try them on later this weekend and find out if I made the right decision or not.

Spanx only goes down to a small (size 4-6), I think she may have grabbed a knock off brand that was cheaper that went down to an x-small. I usually go with the mediums. I wear a size 6 in regular pants but like a little extra give then they allow when riding.
These are my favorites for riding:

Spanx rock. They smooth out the problem areas and are comfortable.

I just got back from the American Dressage Concours at Fox Lea Farms (Florida) not even an hour ago and noticed a woman wearing spanx or something similar. Definitely get the nude color - she was wearing white, and it was very obvious.

Skinny girls have cellulite, too. I have a 5'9", 100 lb. supermodel-esque friend, and she will be the first to admit she's not immune to the chunkies. I have no idea where it comes from, as there's not an ounce of fat on her, but it's there.
When I have children, I plan to teach the boys at a very young age that cellulite is beautiful. :D

SmartPak has some coming out shortly that are as good as Spanx but also wick away moisture. With Spanx under breeches, I always wear the capri length ones.

Just as a follow-up -- I bought a pair of the mid-thigh Assets from Target (by Spanx but cheaper.) $28 though! Fortunately, I decided to get the Large, which I guess I needed even though I wear a 28 in breeches and usually feel more of a Medium. Yes, I liked them . . .
