Born in 1989. He had a Championship in PtHA dressage in addition to being a successful jumper.

I believe he once stood at a farm in Georgia?
I would love to find out if he's still around! If he's not, perhaps a successful son of his?

I have looked at his video (several years ago..maybe 3 or so?). He has that nice super slow approach to the jumps that the APHA hunters seem to favor so I can see he would be a good APHA hunter sire. APHA hunters are not the same as open hunters......I am not so sure he has enough scope to do the open hunters since working hunters go up to a 4' fence and APHA hunters do not go that high. Same thing with the jumpers....."Jumpers" in the APHA do not go over 3 foot something.....hunters versus jumpers is a style difference but you will not see any big fences in APHA jumpers. And finally the dressage thing. He is advertised as the Pinto dressage world champion. That is true but as I understand it the world show is a first level test.....so I don't think there are too many horses that are incapable of a decent first level test. And looking at the video from a dressage point of view I honestly don't see good freedom of shoulder in his dressage work. While that MIGHT not be a big thing at first level the ad I had also claims he was schooling third level but was not shown past first. If he was really schooling third level (which is not shown on the video that he can...) then I expect his first level test would look a whole lot better than it did. What you can get from the video and what I have heard about him he is a nice tempered stallion. I would breed to him if I was looking for a nice local hunter or an APHA hunter. I would not look to him for an open show working hunter, a jumper over 3'6 or really a dressage horse......I found his trot to be kinda typical of a stock bred Paint which would be a little short in the shoulder freedom for a dressage horse you wanted to do over first level competitively outside of the Pinto circuit....and the same would affect the bigger sweeping trot I thing you would expect to see in an A circuit hunter.

Thank you! That's exactly the kind of information I was looking for.
Do you know how one might go about locating him to see if he's still standing at stud? I know he's older now.
Also, is his video online somewhere? His old website isn't up any more.

Nope...have not looked for him any time recently since he wasn't what I was looking for.....a scopey hunter sire or a good dressage horse.

Did you ever find any Paint stallions that fit that bill? (Other then your own!)
I'm still hoping to see more of that colt you showed me a while back!

Next year for my colt...he is only 2 this year....and a gangly 15.1 1/2 H at present!
Locally I ended up using a nice and not so well known APHA stallion named Superior Hobby. He is a stock type but crossed on TB mares he seems to produce some nice hunters and the Hobby line is a nice all around horse. HIS sire has sired a number of APHA World Champion barrel/pole horses so they are pretty handy. That filly (o/o a TB/Paint cross mare) was doing the A circuit hunters in NY/VT last I knew. I lost track of her as her name was changed along the way. Another APHA stallion I really liked was Kings Witchdoctor. I have seen some really nice foals by him...esp. out of TB type mares. The reason I did not use him at the time was his then owner was not too pleasant to deal with when I talked to him. KW has since been sold/I know he is still at stud elsewhere. I have seen ads for him...I can't remember where. I bet you can Google and find him. Another stock type one that crosses well with TB mares is Will Spot Ya. He is known as a WP sire, but I bought a TB mare in foal to him and the colt was a real nice moving horse that sold to an A circuit hunter rider. I cringe when I see the video of him doing the peanut roller WP thing.....it had to be trained into him as the colt I had fortunately moved NOTHING like that....I most certainly would never had bred a mare to him or even bought one in foal to him based on that video I saw later!!

Hello Talia Cristianna,
We belong to the big guy, Windell! He will be 20 this year and is going as strong as ever, thank goodness. It's hard to believe he or I is getting old, he looks just like he did when we bought him at the age of 8, I think. Since he began his career as a 2 y/o in the APHA (I hate they start them that young) I promised him he could retire from competition after a few winning tries at eventing several years ago. We still ride around here, he LOVES trails and will still jump anything we encounter in the woods. Unfortunately several years ago his semen quality dropped and the vets never could figure it out. They now classify him as sub-fertile. He still produces viable sperm but not in the numbers that would qualify us to stand him to the public anymore. I do have a colt by him that we have kept intact but he has to grow up and show a bit before I decide what to do with him.
I'm not sure what you are interested in, but I highly recommend a friend, Patty Brantley for colored stallions. She stands Claim To Fame, his HOMOZYGOUS son, Counterclaim, and an on son of Voltaire, a black tobiano ,no less! Patty's stallions are everybit as good minded as Windell and if you have any particular questions she will be honest in her answers. She can help you pick the right boy for your ladies. Tell her Micki & Windell sent you! Her website is flyingcolorsfarm.com
Tell us more about your ladies, I love to hear from the colored sporthorse world. Good luck with your babies.

I think Will Spot Ya is gorgeous so that's good to know. I have seen Kings Witchdoctor and I've wondered about him too. I'm going to have to look him up again.
I've also been looking at stallions that carry the Cherokee Indian line. I've always had a thing for Sacred Indian and I wish he'd had a son that filled his shoes a bit better...
I found a Cherokee Indian grandson named Suchanimage and I like his build. He's sired some decent racers & gamers but I don't know if he's ever been used as a sporthorse sire. I also can't find his height on any of his ads and my mare needs height! Such a pet peeve.

I think Cherokee Indian gets the jump from Indian Hemp. I would be surprised if the stallion you posted was much over 15.2 with all the 3 Bars/Top Deck in there.
This guy
http://www.pedigreequery.com/see+me+comen
is deceased but he must have some sons around somewhere as he was successful as a hunter sire in both the open and APHA venues and would double up on the Indian Hemp/give you more height. Neither Will Spot Ya nor the Hobby horse will add size. I think Kings Witchdoctor was about 16H...so he is a bit taller.

Thanks Micki! Nice to hear that Windell is still doing well. I was worried that he'd passed away.
I am a HUGE fan of Claim to Fame and Counterclaim. The only problem is I'd really like to get APHA papers on the resulting foals and that's not an option with those two.
Do you get the APHA Journal by chance? There's actually an article on my mares in the February issue. They're both the first two confirmed carriers of the silver dapple gene. (But when I bought them they were both registered as duns...)
I bought Bella as my dressage prospect back in 2004. I liked her so much I went back and bought her mother Angel several years later. I'm having a hard time finding a stallion that compliments my mares' type while still giving me the option of APHA papers. I've been considering a few solid TB stallions but still maintain the hope of finding a stallion that has the right type AND spots to boot!

That stallion is beautiful. He has height AND substance. That combo can be hard to find in an APHA eligible + spotted package.

I looked up the pedigree on their link......the dam is a Pleasant Colony bred (same as my guy being PC on the top side) so through the damline he IS from several of the same lines as my colt: PC , Raise a Native, Nasrullah and Mahmoud.

that you needed APHA. Our stallion, Chai, is by Windell and out of a TB mare. He is 16.2-16.3, I would have to stick him to see if he is finished growing from the last time I put a stick to him (several years ago) and he is APHA but we have not decided to breed him just yet, maybe next year after showing this year. He is a bright copper sorrel, kinda like a dark new penny, tobiano. I have heard of the silver gene but am not familiar with it's characteristics. What does it do with sorrels? If I can find some pictures of him I would be glad to email you some, I have no idea how to post them here on this site! I'll try to think about what is out there, I have been out of the APHA loop for a while so I might be outdated with info.

Glad Windell is still around and in SW GA still is he?

The breeding was bought through a stallion auction and I just happened to be at the vet with a hurt horse when she was brought in to be bred. She looked very old and I was not sure she would hold a pregnancy but she caught on the first try. I'm glad to know the foal turned out well and sounds like he has a good home if he is off to college. Thanks!

Wow, this thread is a blast from the past! I competed against Windell at the APHA World Show. Please help me Micki, who rode him there? I remember I loaned her my crop (not that she needed it!) and she beat me! Told her I'd never loan her any equipment again...haha.
Way back then the jumps were over 3'. Actually the working hunter was 3' and the jumpers were 3'6" with 3'9" in the jump off. Yes things have changed.

Oh, and I meant to add to the OP...what about The Spotlight? Is he still standing (Red Fox Farm in TX)? I had a beautiful filly by him out of a really small, stocky TB mare. She sold as a 2yr old to the 1st person who looked at her. The last I heard from them (when the filly was 4) she was starting a dressage career. The dam was 15.1 and when I last talked to them the filly was 15.3.

Poor old mare, I was told she died right after she was sent off.
But the gelding is good looking, takes after his sire, and has good conformation and color. So he is now with a good kid and off to college.
Don't know what they are majoring in:lol:but I'll try to get Liz to send you a picture. Dark bay and white, 50/50 color, clean legs.
Forgot: That old mare in her mid20s had ANOTHER foal after she had Windell's!

She schooled him at just under 5 feet at home and showed him very successfully in eventing as well, which he really loved. Running and jumping.....whooohoooo!

oh, one of my favorite topics... Paints for sport.
Two of my FAVORITES are: http://www.sjsatleapofaith.com/
I haven't looked into them in awhile, but loved the videos. True loft and suspension, both jump. I like the sire the best, back when I was looking into him he didn't ship. I don't know if that's changed.
It doesn't suprize me that they are true sporthorses as their owner used to own/stand the Great stallion Lessing. (I'm dating myself, aren't I? )
If you don't care about height as much, there is a FABULOUS little black & white guy that Reg Corkum took photos of. I don't have the link here and can't remember his full name... maybe someone else will remember.. SUPER mover, great conformation, super neckset, but smaller. I don't know what he was throwing for size.
Another small homozygous b&w is Norfleet's Windance. Dunno where he ended up or if they're shipping. I knew about a dozen of his foals out of a bunch of different mares, every one of them could stand up next to Wbs and Tbs at least for DSHB.
Spooks Skippa Ghost threw a Bronze Medal AWS colt for me out of my Big Bay Broodmare Extraordinaire(TM) Excellent shoulder & neck, good sit and push behind. Broke my heart he had external plumbing. Ghost happens to be both homozygous tobi and double dilute. Something else going on too as many foals have quite a bit of darker patterning.
Hm. Will have to dig up my APHA list. Been awhile since I looked, I used to have a list of five or six 'future hubbys'.

He is an own son of the the big dog, Secretariat! He's 16.2 and beautiful. Here is a quote from his website
"Innkeeper is the consummate athlete. He has been a racehorse, a show hunter, an event horse and now he plays around in dressage. He is a lovely elastic mover, with a big trot and a huge gallop stride like his father. He is charming and incredibly sane! He is safe enough to put a child on and on occasion he is a lesson horse for nervous, beginner riders. We have a friend who is convinced that Disney should make a film about him! He will never be sold; he is our family pet and couldn't be replaced for any money".

I have not seen Noble Houston. I have seen Innkeeper. Sometimes stallions are not *quite* as big as advertised. Innkeeper is every inch of 16.2 and gives the impression of being bigger to boot. He is a very hefty built TB....looks even more "solid" in person that the pic shows on his website....favors more the Secretariat build for sure. I mention that because some folks look for a TB as a refining sire and I would not look to him for that.
I understand that Ursula does use him for riding lessons. The day I saw him was at his WB stallion approvals. He looked all big and puffed up (probably lending to the "big" impression) because he had to be stalled next to her other stallion Scimitar that day and apparently he hates Scimitar!

There was something about Nearly a Native that he didn't ship well--perhaps they do freeze him now too? Boy, I HAVE to look back into that if that's the case. I love him. I like the son, but LOVE the father. I would put my little medicine hat mare to him in a HEARTBEAT if he really was available.
I limit my searches to tobi with no overo because I have overo in my lines.
The Spotlight does have some nice sport foals. I know a lot of King's Witchdoctor foals, and while I liked him OK, he didn't have quite enough elasticity for what I was looking for. WolfRun Farm had a guy, something Nor'easter or Nor'easter something that I really, really liked. She didn't keep him. I've seen two Designated Hitter foals that I would've sold the farm for, and several others that were quite nice. I don't know if he's still around.
Charley's Tru Image is one I was looking into. Never got video, but I was interested. He himself is haunch high, but if you look at his foals, they are nice. There was a daughter that I LOVED that was for sale, but no way I could touch her. http://www.crosscreeksporthorses.com/charley.html
I'll have to see if I can find any of my old links later tonight. Gotta go shovel out from under almost 2' of snow and 2" of ice now... :sigh:

I never did get a video of Dear Old Dad though. I am in southern PA near the MD line> he was in NY state at the time. I called for a video. His owner did not want to send one.....he said "you are only in PA/not that far away. Why don't you just hop on over and see him yourself instead? That would be better." (Ummm....."hopping" involved something like a 6 hour drive..........). If I was very interested in him I probably would make the drive to see him in person but for screening purposes....nope....not hopping over that far. The bigger issue was really I thought if the guy can't be bothered to send me a video then how is he going to be to deal with to get semen when I need it??
I was bummed though as the fillies I saw o/o TB mares were really nice. Of course every foal has a mother and maybe the mares were great.....but the foals told me he crossed well on TB types anyway. Charley's Tru Image looked so butt high in the pics I saw of him in ads I have never gone looking at any offspring.....the butt high thing put me off right away.
Today is a very rare day the horses are in all day.3" of falling slush yesterday, cold front moved in last night so today the pasture is an ice rink. Nope....they are in so they don't break a leg. I cleaned all the stalls, am having lunch and time to head off to the bill paying job for the afternoon!

Did you get to see him moving at all? What was your take on that?
He was jumping 4' very nicely. As he was in his upper teens the judges did not feel they needed him to go higher. He was moving nicely but not jaw dropping at the time. Ursula said he was a little tense from being riled up with being stalled next to Scimitar and that is a very plausable issue. He probably would be more relaxed under other circumstances. He was next to his nemesis Scimitar and also in a barn full of mares in heat during breeding season. He has had a lot of offpsring around here that have scored well at inspections and folks have good things to say about his offpsring.Website: http://www.enavantstud.com/innkeeper.html
Look at the bottom row of pics right above the pedigree....there is a head on shot. Ya see with THAT chest why he looks so massive in person! Side shots do not give you that impression so much.....

What about Omega? I have not seen him in person but I've seen his foals do quite well.

The owner had moved to Arkansas and I met Native Escapade in 2001. Is Native Escapade currently competing in Arizona?
They are in Arizona. Calling is best as they show a lot. I inquired about native escapade, and my memory is Fuzzy, but I think they are only collecting him once in Spring and freezing him because he cannot show and collect, it doesn't suit him.

It's entirely possible that I've mixed up AK with AZ (I know, I know). Maybe the 'San Juan' thing made me think of Arizona  Although now I'm not even sure if the San Juans are in AZ either.:confused:

I think he's one of the nicest looking "sporthorse type" Paints out there. His foals are gorgeous too but I've only seen photos of them being shown in-hand.
Did you see his foals under saddle? What were they like?

I'd love to know too. The only one I know enough of, and even then it's not enough, is All Dressed Up who, I think, is owned by a COTHer. I think I have seen her under saddle, but it's a vague memory at best

I have seen him before. He looks really elegant! I think his type would cross really well with Bella. Have you actually seen some of his foals under saddle?
Also, have you seen their other stallion Letter of Marque? I keep waiting for them to post more info about him on their website!
We actually have a stallion by C Spot Run N, so I might be biased but I would say he would definitely make a nice cross.

Yes, I saw All Dressed Up undersaddle at Devon, as well as in-hand. She's a very lofty mover with a very cadenced canter. I know Kelly is a member here, she can probably post pictures if someone PM's her, IDK her username.
I also saw two older horses (well they would be 12 and 9 now I think) by him in the past. One is owned by a friend of a friend. Very nice mare, ammy friendly, does low level dressage but they don't show. Great head on her shoulders mare. She is by Omega, out of a Appendix mare, just a cute Appendix paint, and tall about 15.3 hds pretty head and coloring. The other was another Paint/TBx mare, by Omega out of a smaller (15.2ish) TB mare. She topped out at 16.1. Last I saw she was green still but started showing in the children's hunter. She had great form but her training was inconsistant so her rounds weren't the greatest, but the jump was definately there.
I guess it's just by chance that I ran into these three horses by him since he doesn't have too many on the ground. However, that 08' foal on the for sale page by him is ADORABLE!!!

Oh thank you! I don't know her username either :(
Do you happen to know the mare that All Dressed Up was out of? I don't know if I ever knew, or just forgot.
Sounds like your experiences with Omega babies have been great!

According to Kelly's old website. She was out of a mare named Bar Shi Babe, I'm assuming a QH/Paint/TB cross variation of one or two of the three since All Dressed Up was a registered Paint. I think Omega crosses LOVELY with TB mares - the one mare I saw (green one) was long legged, colored, with enough bone and sensibility, unfortunately I don't think she became anything more than a C rated hunter because her rider was - well, not right for her. The dressage mare has got good shoulder action but not a ton of knee, luckily owner doesn't care or show to do anything upperlevel.
Personally I think he'd make some fun eventing horses! Sensible yet athletic. I will try and find some details on the two horses I know, but I don't think one of them was reg.

There is also Rocky

Got to meet him in person, super sweetheart! He was the new guy in town and his foals weren't on the ground yet but they should be hitting the show rings now.
Suzanne is awesome to deal with and I'm sure would be more than helpful to give you any information you may need, she's pretty good at keeping up with what the homebreds are doing. She was one of the best breeders I've met and they took great care of my mare when she was in foal.
At the bottom of this page is a video of one of his 3 yr olds.

I'm having fun stallion searching.
There is also this guy's SIRE. Movin to the Music. The sire doesn't have a webpage for nothin except for some confo pics, but there are action shots on the son's here.

Apparently MTTM was a pretty accomplished all around horse and is available for AWS registry if that means anything.

MttM is an example of how haunch high can be overcome... though he wasn't terribly haunch high, but a little. He has a nice neckset and good training. Is he still around? I wonder how old the son is in the confo shot. If he's 2 in the photo, he *might* catch up... or he might just grow more behind. :( He's only 3 this year.
I like Dixie's War Drum lines for UPHILL sporthorses. Sold a mare because I couldn't keep her in my fences who everyone thought was a Silverwood baby. Nope, all APHA, but MAN could she move. Way uphill, fabulous neckset. I still regret that I couldn't keep her IN where she belonged. The Ima Pepper lines and old Peppy San lines are two of my other favorites. It's hard to search lines though, as Paint names may nor may not have anything to do with the lines. :sigh:

This guy is a tad hip-high, but as long as they MOVE uphill I don't really give that much thought!
I do think he's nice looking. I'd love to see a video of him without the draw reins...
He's got Dixies War Drum on the top and the bottom.

This guy was on my short list too:
https://www.painthorsestallions.com/drummin_the_boogie.htm
have not seen him move, but like his still confo shot, and found him by pedigree. Dixie's War Drum on top and Movin' to the music on the bottom.
It's hard to tell if his neck is really too short or if it's just bulked up wrong (or both). But I like the way it's set on for a Paint, and the mare I was looking for him for had an exceptional neck she contributes, so I wasn't too put off by it.
I sent off an email to Reg, hopefully he'll send me the link to the little guy he posted about a few years ago that I just ADORE. Super mover. Not huge though. But great conformation for sport. All I can remember though is his barn name was "Pepe." Somewhere down south. <sigh> A mind is a terrible thing to waste, but a hard drive is even worse.

Do you get the APHA Journal by chance? There's actually an article on my mares in the February issue. They're both the first two confirmed carriers of the silver dapple gene. (But when I bought them they were both registered as duns...)
Those are your girls? Wow, I just got my issue in the mail today and was eyeballing their pictures- they are stunning! Congratulations!

I FOUND HIM!!!! Thanks to a little more remembered info from Reg.
I LOFFFFFF this APHA stallion. He's not big, which I know is an issue for some folks... but he's built SO nicely and moves... TO DIE FOR.
Not much on the website as it's under construction, but I bet if anyone's interested, the owner will be able to send the photos Reg took.
I really, really like this guy: http://follylanesporthorses.com/poco_docs_american_paint
I'm not sure if this is the right pedigree--type wise it looks right: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/poco+docs3 Really solid old lines. Poco Bueno on top, Joe Hancock on the bottom.

Wow, he certainly has the height doesn't he? He looks to be the spitting image of his sire too. This is very helpful. Thank you so much!
Time to renew my APHA Online subscription so I can search for more sons...
Thank you so much for your interest in my stallion, Thanks For Com En. Since See Me Com En passed away, Thanks is the only breeding son. We have had a lot of success in the show ring this last year without abandoning our mission of adding scope and depth to the stride of the Paint and Quarter horses. We also had a daughter of Thanks's that was registered Rhineland Pfalz Saar mare book 1, Gold Medal status. Honestly, at the time, I did not understand the meaning of such an honor, but I have been informed!
If you are interested in breeding to Thanks, we are looking to expand his book to include more warmbloods and sport horses, and offer discounts to make this possible. Please call the farm for more information.
