:o

Mares 1, me 0.

A mare started foaling this morning and one of the guys had asked me to call him "no matter what." So I got him on the phone and told him which mare and then put the phone in my pocket and entered the stall to assist. The shoulders passed and I broke the sac. The amniotic fluid stayed on top of the sac in a little puddle, rather than disperse over the stall floor.

Out slides my phone, still connected no less, right into the puddle. So I'm staring at the lit screen through the murky yellow-brown fluid. I grabbed it with one hand and threw it over to the door. Foal was delivered with no trouble.

The guy missed the birth but helped with stall cleaning. After the foal had been toweled, navel sterilized, etc., I told him about my phone. We turned to look at it and as we did so, the light petered out till the screen went dark. Phone is out of commission.

Can't believe I did that. I have to laugh, but a new phone isn't really in the budget this month.

You have my sincere sympathies...

I did the same thing last year. The phone was found 12 hours later with no LCD screen - just a starburst of colors. You could actually see the point of the little hoof that did the deed. So for my dearly departed phone, it was Foals 1, Me 0.

Thank goodness for insurance! :)

 I laughed until I remembered that I hadn't ever written down any of the 286 phone numbers that were on THAT phone. :(

Exactly what I was thinking. I mean, if you even did carry insurance on the phone, would they still replace it??? Anyway, while I'm sorry that happened it was a really funny story and I'm glad your shared!

Well, before panicking about the lost phone numbers - do check to see if the data card is still alive. The phone is definately DOA  But if the foal and mare are healthy, then that is what really matters

okay - I am not sure which is funnier now ... dropping it into amniotic fluid or a port a potty

But I guess either way, the phone is toasted!

Funny funny funny ... the things you read about on here at times ...

The difference in those two dropped phones is:

Amniotic fluid - pick up and toss out of the way to deal with later

Port-a-potty - walk away and report the phone as lost because there is no way I'd ever touch that phone again. Buh-bye contacts, photos, whatever!

Somehow there is a perfect ad lurking here for a phone company ... ;)
