Well, here is a great deal- his stud fee is only $1000!

Didn't Juventus compete with Todd Fletterich after he recovered from his injury? I thought he'd had success in California, maybe? Can anyone help me remember?

I know he was at Iron Spring for many years, but I'm drawing a blank on his competition history.
He's a very nice horse and will hopefully be a great asset to Cornell.

OK, now I'm curious- I recall when he was acquired, he was supposed to be the next big one. He was very successful in hand at DAD- did he just not throw the kind of colts that were expected? Is there anything in his pedigree to suggest that this could happen?

Suggest what would happen?

That he would not have a HUGE stud career? With the wonderful program at Iron Spring, and his show record, you would have to believe that he got nice mares, and should have a bunch of winners out there. Does he? I am not out there competing, or breeding Dutch horses, so unless one made a big splash, I simply wouldn't know.

I don't know what's up with his being donated, but I think he is respectable as a stallion - always seemed to rank pretty high in USEF and USDF dressage sire rankings and somewhere fairly high (at least at one time) in the WBFSH sire rankings? (Can't remember exactly.) I know that while he's known as primarily a dressage stallion, he also produces quite a few hunters, too. And, according to ISF website, "in 2003, son Partous competed in the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Verden and is currently winning at the Grand Prix Level." I know he also had a son, Oswald, that went through stallion testing here in the states and was approved AWR(?), but then died shortly afterward. He always seems to have kids ranked in the KWPN-NA Top Ten every year - mostly in dressage but a few hunters and free-jumping. I was always impressed with his daughter, Scandalous keur, who I think is competing on the west coast. I really like him. Every one of his offspring that I've seen had wonderful temperaments.
So to get back to your question, I think it's curious, but wouldn't think it's related to the quality of the stallion. Looking at ISF website, they have quite a few performance horses for sale. Maybe they're being hit by the economy like everybody else, and are downsizing, too...

Since the Dutch database is available to us free for the time-being, I looked him up.
Very impressive scores from his stallion testing.
Even a 10.

Cornell has had several outstanding stallions donated to them in the past. Just because he was donated, does not mean anything is wrong with him. Iron Spring is being very supportive of the program at Cornell by donating a nice stallion. Enjoy!

I first heard of him from a woman whose daughter had seen him often in Europe;;)
She spoke of his expressiveness:yes:, as well as his temperament;;) said seeing him move brought :cry:tears to her eyes!

It might be that after so many years at ISF, his bookings may have decreased compared to the newer additions, after all, ISF is a business, so it makes business since to donate him to a program like Cornell where a stallion of his quality is still available to mares, but the bottom line is supported by the school program. He is a fine stallion and quite a bargain at that fee.

Love this stallion! At one point I had an Idocus x Juventus filly, what a doll!
My guess would be that with all the new "flavour of the month" stallions out there, he probably wasn't getting a lot of bookings. His sire Dublin stood successfully in Canada for many years.

I was thinking about him last month, but wasn't sure what kind of mares he crosses well with. Any thoughts? He seems heavier, but then he is an older stallion.

I would think he'd need a mare with blood.

I had 3 fillies by Juventus out of my Hail The Pirates TB mare. I was very pleased with all of them - all 3 were either foal champion or reserve foal champion at their inspections. While they were always "dinged" for being finer boned, they always did well at the DSHB shows - Filly/YH Champions. The one I kept, Sassafras T, was also Reserve Grand Champion at MODA - as well as USDF #3 HOY and #1 USDF Oldenburg NA HOY as 3yo. Another one won the "Born in the USA" at KY Breeders Classic. All have jump, and I sold one to a dressage home and another as a jumper.
Sassafras T also won the high score free-jumping at the KWPN-NA keuring (including the boys) and was ranked #6(t) Top Ten. She was the only mare taken as Ster and accepted into the Main Studbook from all mares in the Auxillary class inspected that year.

As you can probably tell, I’m very proud of her – not bad for a 16h girl showing lots of “blood” out of full TB mare by a dressage stallion. I’m taking her yearling Balou daughter to the KWPN-NA keuring in a few months.
I think all my Juventus fillies' best attributes are their mind and their "try."

I just saw an ad for a lovely Juventus gelding out of an Aram mare, competing at preliminary level eventing. Has been a champion dressage horse and champion in hand. Asking price 55k.
Owner says beginners can ride him. Pretty good recommendation on temperament and ability!
I've always heard very positive comments about Juventus offspring and their great temperaments.
Tornado Run: That's a beautiful mare. Congratulations.

THe mare that I lost in the awful foaling last year was Juventus out of an imported Westphalen mare. Stella had it all, brains, power, class and superb conformation. She was #8 in N America for the Dutch, but suffered a hock fracture in a field shortly after being put into training. I would never have been able to afford her if she hadn't been hurt - she was going to go far, but alas, a broodmare career was obviously not for her either.

Thank you Indy-Lou. She's my heart horse, for sure. If I had to sell all but one, she'd be the one I'd keep. I adore that mare!
Iron Horse Farm - I didn't remember that was a Juventus mare. :(

PLeC's report of the death of Juventus's son, Oswald, are "premature," as Mark Twain would have said. Oswald is alive, well, stunning, and thriving in Acworth, Georgia, under the new ownership of trainer Chris Erbskorn. Not only is he the most beautiful mover I've ever seen, but his disposition is incredible. Nuff said.

I agree....a steal at $1,000.
Here's his "career" info from the Iron Spring website:
Juventus is a well-established winner at Iron Spring Farm. He started his career by being named Champion foal at Brabant in 1991 and then went on to be Reserve Champion at his stallion test. He received 9's on his walk, trot, canter and trainability and a 10 on character.
Juventus possesses such talent, presence and elegance that he takes top honors both in the dressage ring and at prestigious breed shows. He's won at FEI levels on both coasts and holds the distinction of sweeping all his classes at Dressage at Devon, including Grand Champion, not once but twice within five years.
Juventus is now retired from competition. He competed successfully up to the Intermediare I level with many wins, including the Florida Gold Coast Opener, with a score of 69.62%.
Juventus offspring also show tremendous talent. He has sired many NAWPN Top Ten offspring, and Tiara, Omar, Parelli, and Parma are winning in the Dressage arena. Daughter Scandalous was the USDF 2002 3-year-old-Filly Horse of the Year and the CDS Overall Sport Horse Mare & Filly Champion. In 2003, son Partous competed in the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Verden, Germany and is currently winning at the Grand Prix Level. Daughter Unity ISF was the Reserve Tr. Level champion for the USDF Region 1 in her 1st year of competing.
Juventus is approved by the KWPN, the Oldenburg Verband, and the International Sporthorse Registry. He is also nominated to the International Jumper and Dressage Futurity.

I think those who are saying he just wasn't the "new hot thing" and wasn't making enough money to make it worthwhile for ISF have hit the nail on the head. They have a lot going on there, I can see where another stallion, if he's not getting enough bookings to make it worthwhile, is a bad business decision. By donating to Cornell they get the good press, the tax write off, and the knowledge he'll be well maintained. Cornell gets a NICE stallion to use for their program. Win win.
I know someone who purchased a mare-in-foal to Juvenrus from Cornell. The mare had been inseminated as part of Cornell's vet school program where they were teaching the students repro skills. Instead of creating an unmarketable, random foal-- they have Juventus and were able to create a breeding that was saleable and marketable. The mare was not sound to ride, I don't know if she was donated to the program or what-- but she was a nice mare. The foal unfortunately did not survive due to a freak accident, but I believe they rebred the mare back to Juventus.
I think it's a really nice thing that a vet school would have access to a well known and quality stallion for their program.
