I just wanted to say that I am very proud of my American Saddlebred Harry Callahan who went to his first show at Wellington last Saturday and did very well.
He showed in Grand Prix Open and got a score of 62.128% for a 6th place in his division, which was the top half of the class. Not bad for his 5th time in the ring at Grand Prix! :D
A link to some pictures.

My favorite pic is DSC5509
Edited to ad that I am grateful to his wonderful and talented trainer Chrissa Hoffmann, who believes that a good horse is a good horse, no matter what the breed...

YOU ROCK!!!!
My 1/2 ASB mare is my life... She owes me nothing, I owe her everything. I ADORE her.
There were some amazing ASBs and ASB crosses in my youth. I am always, always a fan.
I LOFF Harry, and you two are both IDEAL ambassadors.
Keep up the good work in Wellyworld. We'll be rooting for you with bells on!!! :D

Big congrats. I used to ride at the same farm as Sandy Rabinowitz (the illustrator who does the last page of Dressage Today, as well as lots of other horse stuff) and she is an avid saddlebred fan. It took me a while to understand why because at the time I was very intimidated by her relatively firey horses, but once I saw how well they worked for her, I understood her devotion. She told me that not all ASBs are suited for dressage, and not all riders are the right fit for ASBs, but the pairings that work are really grand.

Sandy just lost her big red Saddlebred Sequoia in November. :(
She had trained him up to Third Level by herself. She is looking for another ASB to train in Dressage.

She just bought another relative of Sequoia's (Desdemona's Wild Chance) from the same breeder- a three year old.

I only met Sequoia once, right after she bought him. But I did know Stryker. He was a handful, but also a very beautiful horse. I wish her the best of luck with her new ASB!

Gorgeous color!
Saddlebred is icing on the cake... your horse was successful in the GP at Wellington!! Not many people can say that, regardless of the breed. I would be over the moon.

Just wanted to pop in real quick and say kudos to Harry. I've ridden saddlebreds since I started riding 15 years ago. I grew up riding saddleseat and have only recently moved into dressage and jumping. I had dreams of being a saddlebred trainer (saddleseat), but when I got out in the "real world" away from my grandmother's excellent horsemanship, I realized that there were few great saddleseat trainers left. So I decided to expand my studies into other avenues and have been pleasantly surprised.
So I will certainly have my own farm someday, and I will have saddlebreds again. But perhaps they will be mostly dressage with only a couple of saddleseat sprinkled in. I just love the breed and can't wait until I get my hands on a good dressage prospect.
I currently have another dressage outcast... a leopard appy! Haha, I actually stumbled upon him while working at a saddlebred barn in New Orleans and had to have him. No papers and no clue what his history is, but he is the loveliest mover. I like to keep things interesting. He always gets a look and a surprised, "wow, that's a classy horse" wherever he goes. Similar to the response you get when you bring a saddlebred into a new venue.
Congrats and keep up your promotion of a wonderful breed. I think the saddlebred has a lot of promise in the dressage ring (and everywhere else really), and I love to see them succeed against the typey warmbloods (not knocking them at all, I love them too). I also think they have great promise in sporthorse crosses. So smart and trainable. And I they're lovely to look at too.
Anyway, enough of my saddlebred love fest. Keep up the good work.
