I just spoke to the Equestrian Sport Productions office about the discrepancy between their website and prize list - showing the 5* GP on Thursday - and the recent press release that was emailed - stating that the GP is on Friday.

The phone answerer was totally unaware of any schedule change, but did some checking and apparently the GP has been changed to some time during the day on Friday. The time has not been determined, although it was going to be at 1 when it was on Thursday.

It is unbelievable to me that this professional horse show management group has been so unorganized regarding determining and advertising the schedule for the classes.

They have good people but are very understaffed and stretched too thin, IMO. The infrastructure investments seem to have resulted in making do with less in other areas, at least for now.

Friday will be a little better for those that compete in the CDI the weekend before: more of a rest in between....

can't quite figure out who's doing the freestyle and who's doing the special.

there was talk of allowing the competitors (in order of their placing in the GP) choose which one they wanted to ride. strange method-has anyone heard anything about this?

SFAIK, top half of GP will go in the freestyle and bottom half will ride in the GPSpecial.

Here's the most recent news that includes a list of riders:

http://www.palmbeachworlddressagemasters.com/main.html

I only counted 18 riders and it looks like they've had to fill in with more US riders than the 5 originally announced.

I appreciate the work that has been done to the show grounds over the last year. I appreciate that the focus has been on attracting European riders for the show. However, if you are selling tickets to an event, you should be able to tell people when you start advertising the tickets for sale what events they will be buying tickets for. I pretty much assumed from both the prize list and logic that the FS would be Saturday night. Early press releases gave no clue. If you are trying to attract people from outside of Wellington who will have to buy plane tickets and get hotel rooms, you should be able to tell them whether events will be on Thursday or Friday. I live here in the winter, so the only hassle for me is figuring out whether I will be taking Thursday or Friday off from work, but I'd be totally irritated if I were flying in for this. Of course, there is the non 5* show going on, horsey shopping, and hopefully good weather so everybody will still be happy.

Anyone know who is riding in the clinic?

I believe 12 riders will go to the freestyle and 8 to the special (assuming they get 2 more riders!)

The staff working there are as frustrated as you are.........

Thanks for making that distinction, ise@ssl. The woman I spoke to sounded mortified when I pointed out the conflicting press releases on the equine sports production site and not at all happy that no one was telling her what was going on. She was also extremely helpful, so I apologize for painting such a broad brush in my earlier post when I was really expressing frustration with those responsible for the organization and marketing of the event - not those staff people who end up having to deal with demanding people like me!

So I just spoke to the office and the new schedule is
Friday 1pm opening event
Friday evening = Anky clinic
Two events on Saturday, one in the afternoon and the 7pm event.
Craziness that the schedule keeps changing!

And they couldn't explain how competitors will progress in the event. Does anyone know??

This might be outdated and perhaps "unofficial," but the last I recall three 5* GP slots were open to those qualifying through in the 3* GP (provided they have the minimum percentage required by the FEI to start a 5*, which is 2 scores of 64% from 2 shows). From the 5* GP, only the top 6 go through to the 5* freestyle.

All of this is required to be spelled out in the prize list (http://www.equestriansport.com/09WellingtonJan.pdf), along with who/how they are inviting, and I know they know this sort of thing, so I really don't know what the hell they are doing down there ATM.

Here is a doc from the IDRC site supporting this but this is of course just what was presented at one time and could possibly have changed! (Otherwise it's nothing short of bizarre that you can find this on IDRC yet it's not published by USEF or ESP.)

the high score riders get to choose between the GPS and the kur, thus the low score riders take what is left...odd? yes... However, while there is more prize money for the winner of the kur...it could be easier to win in the special against lower score riders.
At least that is how I understand it.

It was pretty well buried in with the General Assembly minutes (which are usually a very good read), here's the link to that page:

there has been limited communication between the show organizers and the competitors. some of the florida riders had no idea when the jog or GP were being held (this is as recently as last weekend)

I'm guessing that because it's the first year, they're (Exquis?) still working out the bugs. It seems like the USEF has been as left in the dark as everyone else....I get the feeling they're trying to make the best of a bad situation.

From this chart, it looks like the bottom five riders do a CDI 3*

Any idea when that might be held?
