From Horse & Hound: British eventer flies to America to teach Madonna (http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/news/397/275035.html)
Our girl Madonna is still in the sport. She's brought two event-bred horses to Florida for the winter. UK eventer Daisy Trayford will be coaching.
I hope Madonna has a lot of fun.
:):):)
ETA: Maybe we should Madonna on the Developing Rider List. Talk about a good PR move...

I bet Madonna would be a lot of fun to teach and a good rider...she just seems the type of person that could do well at what ever she sets her mind to. Good for her.

Hey good for Madonna! She certainly has it half way there since she is in such good physical shape! But it nags me that she isn't using an American trainer - I mean we have some very good ones and she is American after all.
Why did she stop using WFP? I cannot imagine seeing Madonna at an event or show though. I think I'd be giggling too much (not at her riding ability but just kind of the "I'm so tickled that MADONNA is in my part of the horsey world").

Maybe she is getting her feet wet first by jumping in a ring before going full on to an actual event. Either way - hope her manicure holds up!

It sounds like she has a relationship with this coach, who also sold her the horses and has been riding them. It would make sense to fly her in even tho it's an SJ tournement.
I mean, don't we all fly in our European coaches on 24h notice? :lol::lol:

Doesn't she own a house (or houses) in the UK? Maybe that's where she picked her trainer up, and doesn't see the point in getting a new one. Esp. since she has the $$ to just ship 'em over whenever she fancies.

Not at all true in my experience.
Years ago, Madonna had the great privilege of dining with me.
Really.
It was a very informal occasion, just a small group having dinner. She was nice, smart, interested in other people and not the kind of person who demands to be the center of attention (quite the opposite, actually).

Two madonna stories....
My cousin was a trainer at a very high profile gym in NYC...she trained JFK Jr, Cher, and Madge. It was late in the day and I went to meet up with the cuz and the buzzer rang, she told me to answer it....Sreaming from the street, I hear "this is madonna buzz me in!!!!!!" Being the dutiful "chelsea" boy that I am (some may get the reference), I happily pressed the buzzer and in comes this TINY little thing. She was very off hand with me until she knew that my cousin was her trainer.
Two nights later when I was out cha cha-ing in by best Bob Mackie when a tap on the shoulder revealed dear Madonna who dragged me on the dance floor to dance.
That was the last time I saw her until years later when I literally bumped into her coming out of a shop on the Kings Road in London....of course she did not remember our short relationship all those years earlier and just pushed me out of her way.
Oh my dear Madge...I do so remember fondly the night you grabbed my ass at the Sound Factory in NYC.

Eugene Hutz is the front-man of my favorite band (http://www.gogolbordello.com), who semi-famously did a duet with Madonna of an old Ukrainian Gypsy song at a benefit concert in London. He would definitely fit the mold of someone BORN to event, a total lunatic. :D

If this British eventer is coming into the U.S and A to coach Madge isn't that considered working? (ie. she is taking a job away from an American)
To work in the US, do you not need a green card?

Since the divorce was fairly public the details of what they owned were in the press in recent months. They had five UK properties - including a pub - but it was their house in Wiltshire, England where she rode. Guy received in the divorce that sprawling country estate, Ashcombe House (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashcombe_House,_Wiltshire), where she had largely engaged in her riding pursuits and suffered at least one injury (http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2005/08/17/1439242.htm).

Not quite.....otherwise, when ever any business man came over or lawyer to neg. a deal...they would need a green card. This sounds more like consulting for a very short period of time.

I wonder if she would be allowed to ride in one of her horny stage out fits, Dressage with straps, X-C in Domina leather.
It would defenetly help geting males to take up eventing.
And a little bit bordello befor X-C is always a good thing, setling

Any publicity I guess is good publicity...laughable as she is...at least she is attempting to be a good horseperson by buying nice animals and putting decent trainers in charge....I would rather see her allow her children to learn to ride and immerse them in horses. I think she would find the horse world would allow them to grow up half decently, look at Jessica Springsteen - what a fine rider she is.

The story's starting to get more play in the press. No surprise there.
Here's a UK regional paper which gives some good background on Madge's horsey life as well as on her trainer: "Madonna enlists coach Daisy" (http://www.thisiswesternmorningnews.co.uk/news/Daisy-rides-meet-star-pupil-Madonna/article-619046-detail/article.html)
"She wanted something nicely schooled and quiet, but she also likes to let the handbrake off, which does not always go hand-in-hand.
"So we needed to find her a quiet horse with ability and a brain, too."
Daisy adds: "They are not horses that are going to compete at the highest level, as this is not what she wants. She loves to jump, hack out and hunt, and these guys fit the bill perfectly."
Sounds sensible to me.
And then there's the breathless celeb reporting from the local FL Fox station: "Madonna schedules visit" (http://www.wflxfox29.com/Global/story.asp?S=9683192&nav=menu98_3)
I think on her current tour Madge is doing a couple of numbers in a sort of breeches and boots ensemble. I seem to recall seeing a pic of this somewhere.

If he's coming over for less than three months he does not need to get a Visa since he is coming from the UK which has a Visa waiver agreement with the US. All he has to do is be in the database of pre-cleared travelers and he must have an electronic passport which requires some paperwork to be filed.

I only SAW one ;)
I was not in the absolute clearest frame of mind myself that night, and did not intentionally go anywhere (though I found myself at several places anyhow). I believe that it was a bar called "Garage." It was absolutely dingy, filthy, and like someone's basement. The sign over the bar said "Garage" and it was red and black and I recall there being a tiger somehow involved in the logo. I don't know exactly where it was. We started out the night at an Indian Restaurant in Covent Garden and went to 3-4 places after that. I don't RECALL ever being in a cab, but I can't say for sure. I would guess that the place was within some kind of walking distance of Covent Garden.
He was trying to be incognito and had half his face painted blue, half painted white. Which was kind of a crappy disguise because it had the effect of calling attention to him, rather than disguising him. He had his head totally shaved and just looked weird.
It wasn't the clearest of nights for my brain.

Jan. 16, 2009, 02:42 PM
You will note that I have my priorities in order (or else you can tell when in the story of the night the haziness begins). I cannot 100% recall the name of the bar or it's location, but the Indian Restaurant was Punjab. It was fabulous.

You made me curious... I was in the UK in 2003 and have a blog/journal back that goes back that far. I went and checked to see if I put the name of the bar in and I did... "Ghetto."
Garage was correct by one letter ;)

vxf111, although most of the elements of your story sound plausible -- the cocaine, the dive bar, Covent Garden -- there's one small detail that I find very, very hard to believe.
You recognized Boy George. In 2003.
Heck, I wouldn't have recognized him by 1987. Probably not even if he was holding up one of his record covers and singing Karma Chameleon.

JER :) Ha! He's a weird looking dude, that's the only explanation I can give you. :)
In a similar horse related brush with fame, I saw Viggo Mortensen in an Italian restaurant here in Philly and didn't recognized him at first because he looked so... ordinary... and bedraggled even. But it was him. I think it was while they were researching for "A History of Violence." I thought about going up to him and telling him I admired his obvious riding ability and that we have horses who are distantly related (he bought the horse he rode in Hidalgo) but decided it was rude to bug the guy. Also I was embarassed he'd ask me what I thought of the horses in Lord of the Rings (somewhat recently released) and I'd have to sheepishly admit I didn't see the movie.
To keep it Madonna/eventing related, I think it's fairly inspiring that she takes riding seriously enough to want to compete, that she's chosen a grueling sport, and that it seems as though she has realistic goals for her riding. Good for her! I hope she has success and fun in Florida.

British eventer Daisy Trayford is heading to Florida this week to coach Madonna for two weeks at the FTI Winter Equestrian Festival (7 January-29 March) at Wellington, Florida.
"When I started teaching her she hadn't jumped at all and now she can jump a course of 1.05m. Jumping and hacking are her two favourite things."
So she'll probably do either the Level 3 Jumpers, or the A/O division, I would guess.

Actually....she may not even compete. She may just have the horses in FL since it is a nicer place to ride this time of year than NY/CT! If you are going to take a break from work and can afford to enjoy your horses where ever you want.....I could see buying one of those FANCY farmettes in Wellington. There is a ton of really nice hacking (if the alligators are not out)...and generally very nice weather this time of year. It may not have any thing to do with the competition circuit that is going on at the same time.
If she does compete...that would be cool but that isn't something that motivates all people.
