One of my pastures has a wooded area that the horses love running through at full tilt
Its wreaking havoc on the Dover and Schneider turnout sheets. Except for this weekend we normally no not have cold enough weather for heavy turnout rugs,
Any suggestions?

Are you using the 1680D Marathon schneiders? I have found them to be very tough. The storm shields are no where in the same league.

Wow the Marathon t/o sheet I just looked at is pricey (for me ). Website shows they are sold out for season until Aug. 2009.

My TB has that one and it seems to be very rip resistant. Some of the sizes are out of stock/have to call for availability though.
Or, if you're ok with really shelling out some cash Rhino's are pretty durable.

I'd be cautious about the Rhinos! Do a search here on them. My Rhino Wug has already has numerous rips and tears after just one season and I'm not alone in this. I'm saving for a Rambo next time.

Really? I thought my Rhino held up well.
My three Rambo's...well...two ripped. One when the horse was out by himself and didn't seem to be doing anything. The third one I sold anyways because all the Rambo's either rubbed my TB's withers or shoulders.

While I have some issues with the weatherbeeta takas (they don't wick sweat as well as the Rambo wugs) the teflon coating kept even Cloudy from destroying one. And for 2 years he was turned out on a farm with fallen trees and branches and briers, etc. That taka is now at Bluebonnet Rescue in Texas and is still intact with no tears and still waterproof after 3 yrs on you-know-who, Mr. Messy WB.
And I bought it and Callie's taka on ebay at a great price from one of the ebay stores.
The lightweight is best for this area, altho tomorrow and Sat. we'll be wearing the midweight, also bought off of ebay.

That hard exterior shell is usually pretty tough and you know if you have the reciept and its less than ayear old Dover will replace them..NO CHARGE ! They're really good about that. Even if its not a defect and more to neglect. Have you ever tried any of the NewZealand T/O rugs ? U cant kill those things !

Dover has a 2-year guarantee against rips and tears on this model:

This is my first season to use it so I can't say if I will have to take them up on their guarantee in the next two years, but I bought it because of the guarantee.
So far I've been pleased with the quality. I like the snaps across the front.
The worker in my barn pulls my Landa sheet over my horse's head without unbuckling it first. I was appalled at first, but decided to give it a try being lazy myself. She didn't mind and actually stuck her head through the opening.

The top of the line Dover has a rip in it about 4 inched by 4 inches...and lots of tree stripes....sigh
And he the pony he goes ot with got his tail flap ripped off yesterday (on the Scneiders) by above mentioned naughty horse

Just because Dover guarantees it doesn't mean you won't have to deal with the pain of replacing it through Dover. Honestly, I USED to love the Dover blankets... but then 3 years in a row, my STB destroyed his Dover sheet and blanket within a matter of weeks. I don't necessarily blame Dover, though... This horse is SUPER tough on blankets. :sigh: My other horse has been in the same set of inexpensive 600D - yes 600 - turnout sheet / blanket for 5 seasons and they still look brand new. He has yet to teach his brother proper care of blankets, though.
So far, the only turnout sheet my hard-on-blankets guy hasn't torn to shreds has been the Baker. I think it's only 1200D as opposed to the 1680D of the Dover blankets... but it's been my experience that my horse WAS able to quickly destroy the 1680D Dover blankets, but has yet to rip his Baker turnout, which is now on its second season -- a feat we had yet to accomplish with ANY blanket. As always, YMMR, but this is what has worked for me. :)
