View Full Version : White rings around top of hooves ??

my horse has developed white rings around the hair line of all her hooves...what is this ? is it something i should be worried about ?

I was always told it is the new hoof growth and that when it is wet outside it can become softer and more noticeable. So if you've been in a wet climate with mud, snow and or rain. I'd chalk it up to that. Nothing to be concerned about.

Most likely you are seeing her periople, it is like a cuticle. It tends to show up more when it gets wet.

My horse lives in pull on bell boots during eventing season and I turn them up (so they are upside down around the pastern) when he is in his stall and down for riding and turnout. But this one day it had rained a lot and I had happend to leave them in the down position for around 24hrs (had never been told not to anyways). When I pulled the boots up the cornary band area was swollen (cold), soft and white! Like you, I was very concerned, but my vet told me to worry if there is no broken skin and he is sound. What a relief :yes:!

Am I the only one who thinks periople sounds like a dirty word? Or the clinical name for a private body part?

I totally just felt like covering something up, but I just didn't know where! So I just hid my face. I'm invisible if I can't see anything, you know...:winkgrin:
