Does anyone know where you can buy an old sportage? Not the new sportage plus...
I've googled and googled, but nothing has turned up:(

I tried and tried, and found a few places that SHOWED the old tipp on their site..but when I emailed them they said they only had the new tipp but had not updated their sites...

Same results here. The new Tipp is horrible- much more round and bubble like. I found a few old ones in stock by randomly calling small tack shops and asking- but none in my size.

Fyi, I just sent the following message to Tipperary:
"Both my daughter and I had the older Tipperary Sportage helmets and loved them. Admittedly, the visors broke, and that was a problem, but the fit was terrific. The new Sportage Plus does not fit at all. I have heard that other folks are having similar issues with the new design. In fact, the Chronicle of the Horse message boards have had numerous messages posted regarding problems with the new fit.
Do you plan to re-introduce the older design for those of us who cannot fit into the new Sportage Plus?
Thanks!"

I have one of each. Much prefer the old sportage. The sizes are not consistent and the way it fits has definitely changed. Wish they hadn't screwed up a good product.

IFG, please post the address you used to contact Tipperary. I would love to see them barraged with letters to bring back the original Sportage; maybe they would actually do it if they heard from enough eventers.
I am fortunate that my head fits in the Sportage Plus, but I don't like it nearly as much as my original Sportage. I'm still using the original, hoping and praying that I won't fall anytime soon and then have to use the Sportage Plus!

I sent the new one back. To make the fit even worse, the logo was stitched on (in the rear of the hat) upside down. Nice if you want to ID the lawn dart, but it spoke to me in volumes about the entire new design.

I love the old one too. I wish they would reintroduce. The new model didn't fit, which drove me to the CO J3. I like the CO, but it is a lot of $ for someone like me who seems to have made a habit of falling off (and never being quite sure if I conked my head or not).
Tipperary - please bring it back! I will even pay more!

I have an old one that I rode in, like, twice and then stored in my tack trunk if someone wants it! It did not fit me at all, but I have a weird, HUGE head that very few helmets fit!

I might drop them an email, too. My beloved old Sportage met its end over the weekend. I haven't had the opportunity to try the new Sportage Plus, but I really dislike the appearance.

Here, here to this thread!
The new version sucks! I have called Kelly at Phoenix to let them know how I and many of my fellow eventers and barnmates feel. She did elude to Phoenix giving thought to going back to the original design and, if I remember our conversation correctly, making some announcement to this effect in Feb.
In the meantime, I had luck finding a new "old style" on eBay.
Also, our local tack store does have a few in varied sizes in stock.
PT me if anyone needs info.

Try calling Horsetown They have 3 Atlanta area stores and usually have LOTS of stock on hand. Now alot of the staff is also western so ask for Karen K(Marietta store) or Karen Pollard(Owner and works East and South) to help you. Between the 3 stores they can probably find a few. I DO NOT recommend you order online. They will need to speak to you to be sure you get the right thing. Sometimes online orders may be pulled by less experienced staff.

I managed to find one on e-bay, still with tags on. Worth looking, you might get lucky. The new ones are awful.

When the new sportage first came out, I picked up an old model on sale and squirrled it away in my closet...right next to one last pair of dansko paddock boots from when those were discontinued.
I'd love to see tipperary go back to the old style!

Not new news, but this was still a bummer to hear. I did indeed email Phoenix Performance Products a short little note asking if they had any model 7000 Sportages available. It took less than 24 hours for a reply:
I am sorry. The production on the 7000 Sportage stopped as of Jan 1st
2008. At this time we understand that none of our tack store have this
product in stock.
Thank you

I have an old Tip too and I love it. Hate the new ones! Yesterday, on a ride, I ran into three other riders who are in the same predicament and looking for old style Tips. If we ALL contact the company maybe we will get the old ones back quicker.
**WHERE** they did their market research on the new ones I cannot imagine! I have not met or heard of one single person who likes the new model! I hope they are seeing a decrease in sales of the new ones.
Give us our old Tipperarrys back!!!

Boy, am I glad I ordered an extra when TOTD sold off their old model ones. I just recently realized how old my first one is, so it will be saved as a backup. I got a new CO to wear in the winter, but when it gets warm, you can bet I'll get out that new Tip!

For those interested....just heard that the old Sportage will be back on the market this year. I was told that around June it should be in your local tack shop. This was from a tack shop owner who had spoken with the company. Good news! Refreshing when a company actually listens to their customers.

Good news, as I've been reluctant to fall due to my helmet costs doubling since I had to move to an IRH :D
On second thought, maybe I'll stick with the IRH...
