View Full Version : Wintec 500 Dressage Saddle - Squeaky?

Hi Everyone,

I am looking into getting a dressage saddle. Since dressage is really only my second discipline (I'm a hunter) I am just looking into synthetic ones. I just wanted to know if the Wintec 500 squeaks badly? I can deal with a small squeak here and there, but if it is constant I wouldn't be able to stand it.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I know six people who have them and none squeak.

No squeaks with mine which I've had for 2 years. I think it's a very good buy.

I had one (and have had 4 other Wintecs) and they really don't squeak. I have heard of other synthetic saddles squeaking when the rider is wearing tall boots - my friend had this problem, and she solved it by rubbing a little baby powder on the inside of her boots before she got on.

Mine squeaks. Oh, does it ever! It's only got four rides on it, though, so far.

I had a 2000 that squeaked when it was new. I live in Florida and found out that the warmer the weather the softer the material on saddle got, then it never squeaked again. even when it became cold.

I had the wintec 2000 and when I had my tall leather boots on, it squeeked- a lot! So I turned it into a schooling and trail saddle since I rarely rode in my tall boots then. Comfy saddle, I did like it for that

I've had mine for several years and haven't gotten a squeak out of it, even in tall boots. LOVE that darn saddle :-)

Mine never squeaks and I've have it for a few years :)

Personally, I love it. It's inexpensive and it's comfortable.

Effax Leather/Leder Combi (http://www.SmartPakEquine.com/ProductClass.aspx?productclassid=1027&cmPreserveSource=true&cmPreserveCategory=true) will take care of any squeaking.

And if you use it on a Wintec, you'll ruin the saddle.

Mine squeaked when I tried to use a baby wipe to clean it. Stupid idea. Spooked my horse! Also squeaked when I polished the inside of my boots real shiny. Also stupid idea.

I had a problem with my Wintec being squeaky IF I used the Wintec "leathers"S with it (synthetic on synthetic) but was OK when I used real leather leathers.

You're not supposed to use real leather leathers on them, I've heard the oil in the leathers can mark up the saddle.

But you're right, if you use the Wintec brand leathers, it's squeaky. If you use plain nylon leathers, they're usually like $12 a pair or something, they're squeak-free. Some folks don't like them though as they look very obviously synthetic. ;)

Mine squeaked when it was new...after a couple of weeks I barely noticed it anymore and when I switched to real leathers instead of the synthetics the squeak disappeared altogether. It's been a good, comfortable, dependable saddle. Well worth the money.

On a green horse (which is what I use the WIntec for in case of accident...don't want to wreck the Passier or something with a silly greanbean!) squeaking is the worse of the 2 evils!!

My Wintec 500 squeaked at first with my tall boots. I put some leather conditioner (Belvoir Balsam) on the inside of the boots only and that solved the problem. I've used mine with both regular and synthetic leathers, and neither seemed to make much difference noise-wise.

I've had mine for over two years and it's very serviceable. I bought a County for my new guy, who is wider backed, but my narrower and more sway backed mare prefers the Wintec so I use that on her.

I have only used leather leathers on mine. It is 6 or 7 years old. Still looks brand new too.

Mine squeeks when I ride with my tall boots and it drives me crazy. I was told when I bought it that it would squeek for a bit, but it's been a year and it's still squeeking. I use leather for the leathers and it hasn't marked up my saddle.

I'm going to try the baby powder suggestion though. Thanks for starting this thread!

Mine only squeaks occassionally. Thats when:

1. I cleaned it by hosing
2. Cleaned my half chaps

 Loved my Wintec 500 otherwise. But, have to say that the Kieffer Wein DL is da' bomb. Love it.

The squeaking always went away within a few rides. No biggie. A bit annoying, but I liked the saddle so why complain?
