I just discovered this and wanted to pass it along. We've probably all tried Kopertox, ThrushX, bleach and who knows what this time of year and ended up with little more than purple and green hands (breeches, shoes, barn aisle, etc). A friend told me to try Wonder Dust. I thought she was a bit crazy, but it's cheap so I figured 'what the heck?'. Thrush completely gone in 3 applications. No mess on the barn floor, my breeches, etc. Pass it on!

That does strike me as a really good idea. Thanks.

That actually makes a lot of sense.
Through trial and error I have found Gold Bond medicated foot powder to be a pretty good preventative for my mare that lives in less than favorable conditions this time of year, so Wonder Dust should be great.

WOW! I just checked out all of the ingredients and it seems to be a pretty powerful drug for thrush treatment. It is also incredibly safe and almost homeopathic. I am excited and hopeful! :)

Thank you so much for the info. I will have to go and get some, cause I'm sick of the green or bleach spots! LOL!!

I used to have a problem with thrush on my horse before I changed farriers, and the only thing that worked and didn't burn and irritate him was tomorrow for cows, mastitis treatment.

3 Tablespoons Borax
3 Inches of Water
Soak 3 X a week for 30 minutes
DRY WELL...apply Gold Bond Powder ;)

On the non-soaking days, spray with organic Apple Cider Vinegar very well.

If it's very stubborn or deep-seated in the central sulcus, combine equal parts: Desitin Regular, Triple Antibiotic Ointment & Female Yeast Infection Cream. Using a syringe, get it into every crack and crevice. Sprinkle with Gold Bond. Feel free to wrap with vetwrap to hold it in there for a few hours :D

A couple of months ago I stepped on a rusty nail, and remembered that I had
a bottle of chlorhexidine in the barn so I cleaned my foot with it..

We have been fighting thrush off and on for a very long time now.
I was getting ready for my daily routine of picking hooves and decided to mix me some of this Chlorhexdine in a spray bottle, I saturated the entire bottom of hoof and the cleft for 7days, then I went to every other day for 7days that's been several months now and there is no sign of thrush.

OMG! Chlorhexidine is AMAZING! I worked for a vet and got hooked up with it...between the farm, all these animals and a construction worker husband I have a million "Miracles" I can share about Chlorhexidine.

I love the blue, ChlorahexaDERM better than the actual DINE. But it is SO hard to find in the gallon jug.

Secret weapon for people and pets with fungal issues like thrush. I like a two drops of Melaleuca quinquenervia (Niaoli) and two drops of Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea Tree) in a 8 ounce spray bottle with mineral water. A good spray every week and no more thrush! both are anti-fungal and anitseptic, it kills the fungus and keeps secondary infection at bay.

I bought some of this (http://www.lifedatalabs.com/index.php?act=hoofdisinfectant&lang=us) from my vet yesterday. I'll tell you if it works well. I am still going to try the soaking preparations above and the wonder dust.

I've sworn by Hetacin-k.. a mastitis treatment for cows. But I'll give the wonder dust a try next time I'm faced with the thrush funk

My most recent round of Thrush (early in 2008) I used the cow udder product - Go Dry.
The wonder dust makes a great deal of sense though - especially for those who are fighting the mud and wet! I bet it would be a good preventative.

Could you explain what you mean by "almost homeopathic"?

Wonder Dust is:
CALCIUM HYDROXIDE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calcium_hydroxide)
POTASSIUM ALUM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potassium_alum)
Copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copper%28II%29_sulfate_-_pentahydrate)
IODOFORM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iodoform)
CHARCOAL (ACTIVATED) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Activated_carbon)

Potential Health Effects (Acute and Chronic) Corrosive to skin and eyes. Causes irritation and inflammation to mucous membrane and respiratory passages. Prolonged exposure to sulfur dust can produce skin sensitization and permanent eye clouding of the eye lens and chronic irritation.

Probably OK for hooves unless the thrush is very bad and they're sensitive. Not something I'd use on wounds though!
