I was hoping I could get your thoughts on a few canter PA horses. Would be looking at low level prospects. Probably not above novice.

The first, I love his expression.

PA-T1310-10 Evan's Dreamboy, chestnut gelding, 15.2 hands, 3 years old. He is a very very sweet horse who is very uncomplicated to ride! He has a very nice way of moving and will make a wonderful child's hunter or jumper. He has absolutley no desire to be a racehorse whatsoever, so he needs a career change! He is as sound as a dollar and has no vices at all! He is an awesome prospect for anything as he is young, sound and sane! Evan is stabled at Philadelphia Park.

Second, a mare. Maybe short in the neck?

PA-T1323-10 Saucy Niner, chestnut mare, 16.0 hands, 6 years old. This is a big girl with a nice big build. She certainly doesn't look like a racehorse! And trainer says she's really not acting like one either! She's a nice girl and would be a super project for anyone. Trainer has had her since she was three and says there are no issues with her. She's a straight correct mover.

Thanks in advance!

I'm totally digging the gelding!!!! He looks like he'd make up into a lovely low level eventer. To be honest.... the mare is not my cup of tea. Maybe I'm crazy, but it seems as though all the parts of her body don't quite fit together. If that makes any sense:confused:. Whereas the gelding has an adorable "look at me" sort of aura about him, the mare just seems ordinary.

Can't find the gelding's pedigree, but the mare has both Majestic Light and Stage Door Johnny in the third generation, both good jumping and sporthorse lines. She also has Never Bend in the fourth, but that's getting a bit far back. She is a chunk!

As soon as I replied to your post, I went straight to the Canter Pennsylvania website to see all the pretty ponies. Check out the face on this one:

PA-T1228-06 Poker Party, bay mare, 15.2 hands, 5 years old. What a great name and when you see her face you'll see why the name fits! Talk about cute! She's not real tall, but she's got a substantial build and will take up a pretty long leg. She's been with trainer-owner for about a year and a half and she is quite attached to this fancy little mare! She has no soundness issues and would make a really cute children's hunter. $1,000/or best offer!! Lisa Flores 717-919-6478 cell or 717-469-0450 house.

I like this one too:

PA-T1322-10 Lucky Striker, bay mare, 16.0 hands, 4 years old. WOW, this is one impressive mare!!! She's a gorgeous mover with long, ground covering strides! She will excel in any discipline with definite upper level capabilities. She is a sensible, level-headed mare with a sweet expression; she’d make a great addition to anyone’s barn. Sound with NO issues what-so-ever! $2,000. Amy Randolph 717-865-8005.

Definitely like the last 2 horses posted. The first two just do seem like they are put together well. Love, the Poker Party Horse. VERY cute.

That Lucky Striker mare is gorgeous. She sure looks like an eventer. Absolutely outclasses the first two posted. Really developed and balanced and only four. Might be a bit more horse than the first two, but she looks like she has the goods and I'd definitely look at her if I were shopping.

I looked at Evan's Dream boy for 2 customers. He is really nice, good mover. I saw him the day after he raced, his legs were tight and he jogged 100%. I would take him in a second. But, alas, im not looking.

fyi, i saw him a few months ago and he was slightly butt high so I think he has a bit of growing to do. Maybe finish at 16.0

I like both Evan-gelding and Striker-mare. Evan has more growig to do and will fill out, the mare is there but nicely built. Obviously raced more ( my assumption ) and I have a thing about not racing much...
If I had to choose, if Striker had no soundness issues, she would be the pick on build. Attitude is another issue.

I really like the mare- Lucky Striker. She's neat.

I've been looking into a new horse lately too, and have talked to some people about Lucky Striker. Please take the following with a grain of salt, because I have not evaluated the mare myself, so this is coming second-hand...

From what I hear, she's a gorgeous mare with all of the try and heart in the world once you've bonded and established your role with her. But, she would need someone with confidence and at least some experience, because I was also told that she can and will test now and then; and when she does, you have to nix it right then and there, or she'll walk all over you. She's an amazing mare who'll no doubt be a super-star for the lucky person who gets her and matches the above description!

I know nothing about the other horses mentioned.

Best of luck, and happy horse hunting!!! :)

ETA: I've also been told that this trainer usually puts more than just race training on her horses. So, Lucky Striker might be ready to ride right now, but I have no idea for sure. You'd have to contact the trainer and ask.

I'm not sure if you're stuck on a horse in PA, but there are some good horses in Indiana as well (through Friends of Ferdinand as we don't have CANTER here).

Check out these cuties!
Jimmy Kool - 2004 Gelding, 15.2h - Came off the track in November. Currently in 60 days retraining.

heh, that description would probably be true of most any horse at the track. (and at some point in there lives, any horse in general, LOL)

I actually like Saucy Niner a lot. I think the first photo is one of those bad perspective ones, that makes her look more out of whack than she actually is. But I have a soft spot for mares with large hind ends. I just want to run up to her and poke her in the butt.

That's my totally scientific and non-eventer opinion *grin*

O man, I can't even get on that site. I will be buying something before I know it!

But, if it were me, I LOVE the Poker bay mare. Very pretty. Put together decently. The first 2 were ok, but didn't do much for me. If I had to pick between them, I would take the bay gelding. The mare looks like a big ol' QH!! haha, not that there is a thing wrong with that, but just not to my liking.

Not an eventer, but....something about Evan's Dream Boy looks out of wack to me, particularly around the pasterns. It may just be he's still a baby but they look really long and not at a good angle.

Saucy Niner looks much better in the second photo, enough so I suspect caffeinated's right, the first picture is just a bad perspective. I'm not sure how she'd be for eventing, but she looks solidly put together and nothing jumps out as out of balance.

Lucky Striker and 2 from the FFI- Jimmy Kool and Nagalong (poor thing, what an awful name!). The 1st gelding does look his pasterns are too long, and the 1st mare is too heavy for my "event" taste. If IN. isn't too far for you I think Nagalong looks fancy, fancy!

Sorry to confuse this but if you're travelling to PA why not go all the way to MD. Running the risk of sounding like an evangelist for Leighton Farm (www.leightonfarm.com) , it just (along with this BB) happens to be a favorite time-wasting site.

Anyway-- Kim's got a couple of really nice looking prospects at her place which are already let down and restarted - with video on YouTube - and you can see them jump, which is really helpful. Warning.... you can find yourself coming up for air after it's gotten dark out and your horses are wondering if they will ever get fed if you go to her site.

I've got one of hers at my place eating everything in site and growing like a weed and he's not even really four yet. I'm hoping he stops at 17.1 but am not counting on it. Sweeter than sweet.

This is a nice looking BARGAIN. @ Charlestown:yes:

4 year old 16hh bay mare. She was incredibly sweet and very quiet and enjoyed attention from the volunteers. She is sound, just uninterested in racing and running out of starts and needs to go. With her quiet, easy temperment she could be a great children's prospect. We were impressed with her and think her picture doesn't do her justice! Asking $700/obo John Milton

Hi there...

Evans dreamboy is sold. They just haven't had it marked yet. My friend owned him and he sold a few months back! There was nothing wrong with him, except he didn't want to run.

I actually have a mare that a guy at the track is looking to get rid of and she is really nice! She is built like a QH and is just under 15.3 hands! She is just turning 5 and is chestnut with a white blaze and is very cute! She is sound but is not competetive at the track, so he is being forced to get her off the grounds!

I have some pictures of her I can email if you are interested, but she seems like a great prospect for someone especially since she is only a grand!

Uhm, I don't really like either of the two in the OP. But if I had to pick between them I'd take the mare. She may be a bit chunky and coarse but she's solid built and doesn't have parts that look a bit wonky to me (which the gelding does). I also like her expression. (For a fun horse to own, ride and show folks, not talking about a horse to go pro on here!!)

Otherwise I'd go with almost any of the others that were posted... except I think I'd stay away from that big mare, Lucky Striker. She's gorgeous, but from the comments on the ad and what someone said here.... sounds like she's more for someone looking to go up the levels and really put in a confident ride.

I could be wrong but it sounded like you wanted a lower level horse and I'm guessing from your choices you are looking for laid back and fun. I would check out that mare and maybe some of the ones that someone posted from friends of ferdinand... they sounded laid back and ready to go have fun with.
