Hello,
I'm starting my saddle search and...it's a pain!!! And I just started ;) I think I've found a perfect dressage saddle..that part was easy. It's a Stubben Romanus I think, 32 cm tree and fits Fleck like a dream!

But..the jumping saddle is harder to find. His Wintec Pro Jump seems to actually fit him well, but the Cair panels are digging into him causing him discomfort. I could just have it wool flocked, but...for ~$300... Maybe I just want a leather saddle :)

So... I need something that is a medium tree in the front and a medium wide-ish in the back. Like the Wintec Pro Jump. Anyone have any ideas for me to get started? The Stubben Roxanne S in a 31 cm tree didn't seem to work as well as the dressage saddle.

Thanks in advance! I hope to find one soon so that we can get to some serious jumping work again!

have you tried looking at the stubben jump saddles? chances are if the tree construction of their dressage saddle fits for you, you might have luck with the other models.

My mare is similar (TB withers, MW tree over the shoulders, but a flat back), and I ended up ordering a Black Country Wexford. My saddlefitter brought a demo, and it was just amazing how the contours of the panels lined up with her back. They also have the Ricochet, which is a Quantum built on the Wexford tree.

Thanks! I'll look into those. The stubben Roxanne didn't fit as well, which is a shame cause I totally LOVE That saddle, but I might try some other styles or even a different Roxanne.

Thanks!

If you really like the Stubbens, try contacting the company and see if they have a company rep in your area. The company has started a program that you can get a basically semi-custom saddle built for you. I know that the Mid-Atlantic rep does farm visits for measuring and fitting saddles. If you really like them, it might be worth your time.

I know your pain, having a high-withered broad-backed horse. I ended up with a Roosli Pilatus dressage saddle (thank you consignment shop!) and a HdR Show Jumper. The HdR was a huge shock for me, since it fit both my hard-to-fit TB, but also my long legs. I'd almost resigned myself to getting a loan for something very expensive and very custom when I stumbled across it.

If you like the Wintec, I would try a Bates, more specifically the Eventer. That is exactly the way the panels are designed- they fit a broad back much better than a curvy one. My sister has one that she bought, the horse HATED the Cair panels, so she bought it and had it reflocked with wool.

Thanks guys! I am looking for some bates, but I'd rather not have to pay additional to get it flocked with wool. It's hard finding them without the CAIR. I'm tempted to just keep my wintec pro jump and get it reflocked, but...then part of me thinks...maybe it's time for a leather saddle! And...I can sorta justify it to the hubby so... ;)

But I will look into the Bates Eventer! Thanks!

Holly, have you looked at the Toulouse saddles. They have wide gullets--their Medium is like a Medium-wide (my fist fits in the gullet), and the panels are wood and foam.

This Holly and Giant Appy :) have a Black Country Quantum saddle. Love it!

The Wexford is really nice, but IIRC it has a slightly deeper seat which may not be quite as good for you jumping. The Quantum is more of a true close contact I think. But, it's all in what your comfortable with.

The thing about BC is that you can have all sorts of stuff swapped out to make it custom for you and your horse. And they really do seem to have them made in about 4 weeks.

I've got a prestige event for my shark fin TB. The gullet can be adjusted up to 2 cm by a rep...so it's fairly customizable. Also... you could look at Classic Saddlery they are totally adjustable (But not in the same way as wintec/bates). I own both.
