I was looking for a videoclip of Teddy as a three-year-old, but I never found it. However, I did find the disc with his early hunter, jumper and eventing efforts. Thought some of his fans here might like to see them...then I got to thinking how cool it would be to see other horses "then and now." Wanna join me?

I have not watched all the videos but seeing the two that I did watch only makes my appreciate just what a tremendous job that CT did with him.
KOC may have the Pan Am medals but IMO his success was ALL about CT. She is the real winner in my eyes.

No doubt, Snoop. Under Christan, he grew up. IMO, it was a natural matched with a natural (o/f at least--can't say he ever got it when it came to the dressage, though!). I think Christan has a "go for it" attitude that did NOT stifle Ted's own, as might have happened with others. For example, one rider wanted me to longe him before dressage and manage him in other ways to make him more quiet. I felt the problems that were occurring stemmed from bottling up his natural tendencies and am now, in hindsight, really glad I spoke out that time. Both Kev, Cat and Clee (full bro & sis, sister in blood) are also energizer bunnies who turn into tigers if they are bottled up. We didn't know how ingrained that trait is back then, of course, so calling it wrong wasn't really someone's fault per se, but I wonder if I'd have come to recognize it with the confidence I now have if I hadn't seen the difference under Christan.
Anyway, enough of my guys! I wanna see OTHERS. See how unbalanced and pudgy Ted was (notice NO withers, just like that shot of Kev from last year)? I wanna see how OTHERS developed along those lines, y'know? Come on, let's see 'em!
Oh, and, yeah, Janet, that was Gillian.

Did you ever take any video of him doing the free jumping work you once described? I want to learn more about how you do that with your youngsters.

We've been following in text the eventing adventures of quite a few equine COTH members - I won't put their moms on the spot naming names - and we'd love to see their early and now vids too! Not just a face with a name, but a vid with a story we've heard.

I am curious, and this may be a delicate question or one no one really knows the answer to: But why did Christen stop riding Teddy when they look like they were made for each other? She fits him so nicely! It makes me think he could have done even MORE with a rider more his "size."

Money, dear! Neither of us had enough of it. That was the primary reason.
But, y'know, none of those videos listed on this thread have Christan on board.
Sudi's Girl, he was five for the hunters, six for everything else, IIRC.

Eventfan,
Don't apologize! The video I posted is of Teddy,s little brother Theodore al Coda, who I purchased from Wynn last February. He was unbroke but is going to his first show on Thursday. Thought people might like to see the similarities and the early videos. Sorry if it was confusing. And yes, money is always a factor and I don't doubt that Teddy would not have been the celebrity he was if Karen hadn't ridden him. I just hope his little brother can follow in his shoes,

I read the post and saw the cute video of Teddy's brother, Coda, that Christan Trainor (sp?) has.
I'm confused about his name. I thought I read a while back that his name was "DC al Coda" but on Christan's video it says "Theodore al Coda", did it get changed or was it always "Theodore al Coda" and my memory is obviously even screwier than i thought ?!
Thanks for posting the videos, Wynn, it's fascinating to see how he started out. :)

Ok, I'll bite....this is our three year old pony "participating" in the dressage phase only of his first ridden event. Before you laugh too hard.....he has only nine days under saddle (five days in march, and four days before this outing in september) :)http://gallery.me.com/redbudranch#100015...the little bugger actually led the field after dressage. He has come a loooong way just since this video.

Wabadou,
You are correct, before Coda's name was DC al Coda but Christan thought it would be a good idea to put "Theodore" into Coda's name so everyone would be aware of the connection between the two ponies, so now it is Theodore al Coda.

Goodpony, NINE DAYS? I'd have a hard time getting some of mine within six feet of the dressage rail...in 90 days (idiots that half of them are). And the way he just trots right up to the judges stand? And your left canter circle is so accurate! Oh, come now! The trot to walk transition at C was just unfair. It ain't right that you can have it that easy AND do it that well, too.
The only "excuse" I can think of for this behavior of your naughty creature is that he looks and acts like one of the worlds sanest of breeds: the Morgan or the Connemara. Is he?
BTW, when was that taken and do you have a more current one so we can see the difference (like, his last 3rd level test or something :D)?

Love the Teddy vids, and his little brother is just gorgeous. Can't wait to see him competing in the next couple years -- if he's going to be in MD, I'll come out to see him!
Of course, all vids of me on Katy are 'early', I've only been riding her a year.

Hi PWYNN---yep, nine days/rides. I know its crazy and truthfully more than even I expected-all things considered.
I hate to say it but there hasn't been any after YET because shortly after this outing in late september both he and his little brother were castrated . He is now my personal riding pony and I hope to spend the next year just putting low key mileage on him. And yes, he is a purebred Connemara--14.2 HH, nine inches of bone, 11oo lb.

We saw a pony the other day that you guys need for your high performance breeding program. She is a Hideaways Hustler (full brother to Erin Go Braugh) a little too much engine/scope for the average kid/adult but holy cow what a woman.

Where?
I'm trying to arrange to breed Ted's mom or 3/4 sister to Erin Go Braugh this year. It's complicated because he doesn't ship well, so the mare has to go up there, I'm waaaaay down here and Melody has a 2009 in the oven already. The 3/4 sister is open, though, so I might send her. I'd love to get some "Little Horse That Could" blood in my herd!
(And what do I get for getting it half-right about Jack's breeding?)

I always love seeing videos of Teddy (even when they make me sad), and Teddy's relations. Coda is very cool. I love Teddy in the coliseum at VAHT..."This is weird, so I'm just going to jump everything REALLY big." Better than some greenies I've ridden in there("I'm a lumberjack and I'm ok...").
I'll play along, but there really aren't a whole lot of then and now videos...just then and a little farther along.
Here is all three phases at Vernon's VERY FIRST outing, ever. Honestly, other than a field trip when he tagged along with the "big kids" schooling at Jumping Branch (he walked around in hand, played over the baby logs, in the water and over the ditches), he'd never been away from home. This is maybe six or so jump schools, maybe a few more, and he really didn't know about cantering fences (you'll see he figured it out a bit as he got the hang of it here). He'd never been in an indoor, and of course we picked one of the scariest ones in the area for his first outing...obviously it didn't phase him. AND, to top it all off, other than the baby banks and ditch he played over in Aiken, and I think jumped one xc fence there, too, he'd never done any real xc schooling before this...these videos are fantastic evidence of how absurdly brave my guy is! (in the xc video, I love the boss's comment "I think that's the first fence he ever looked at!"). Oh yeah...he won.
Dressage- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=po0_OHI46S8
Show jumping- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qU6FN_UZ9xI
Cross Country- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F224gB6Uqy4
So, moving on. Here he is about two months later at his second event, first recognized, at novice. I will fore warn that I HATE my riding in the xc video. During the ride, he grabbed the bit and hauled off with me between just about every fence, and we got into some battles. Of course, once I got the video, what HE was doing didn't look nearly as bad as it felt, so there may be way more yanking and cranking than I really like. I also was probably trying to protect him more than he needed, instead of just letting him gallop and jump. :o I figured him out after this outing and learned how to keep the lid on him from the time his feet hit the ground after each fence. Please, please, please forgive...not my best riding ever, and I'm rather embarrassed to share. However, it was a great outing and I was very proud (of him)!

The mare is here in California and belongs to a friend....she is in a sale barn at the moment with someone coming out to look this weekend. If she doesn't sell she is coming home....will PM the contact email.
Pretty good guess Pwynn! I think its GREAT that both you and eventrider are interested in incorporating some good Irish Pony blood into your programs! As far as what you get....we'd be Happy to send some nice Irish (Australian) Pony your way if EGB doesn't work out. My other little guy Eclipse has already qualified for both the dressage/eventing championships in our region for next season. He is ready to go 2nd Level(and doing some third) and will come out at training this season. He did pretty good at the YEH for five year olds at Woodside (5/11)...he actually won the conformation and type section and did very well across the board under Janis Linnan (not bad for a 14.1 HH pony!). Of course a horse we sold on WON IT! He also had a good season in straight dressage too winning 5/8 classes at first level in some very good competition. He'll be six this year and has a new junior jockey that I have high hopes for. The young lady hopes to do Young Riders next year and I hope we can help support that.
In keeping with this thread....You can see E here at age Five at Inavale(his second go at novice)and Age Four at Paxton Farms (doing somewhere between novice and training) in Ohio (should have body clipped him) doing the performance test for pony stallions: http://www.goodpony.net/ConnemaraPonyStallionWildwychEclipseVideo.html keep in mind were amateurs,,,,but we do have fun with him.

Very wonderful vids here...thanks to Wynn, Christan, etc. for sharing!
It's my turn to play, now! This is my 3 yr. old TB/Morgan, Amos. He is my son...need I say more? He's just such a joy, both to ride and just to be around! I raised his mama as well (just lost her this past August to brain cancer at age 25) and Amos is so much like her, it's been a great comfort to me! I haven't started him over fences yet, but I'm hoping he jumps as well as his mama did! So far, he's just the most level-headed and uncomplicated little guy, and so much fun! I'm trying to build a video library myself, so that I can track Amos's development. This video was taken at a clinic this past November:

pwynnnorman-There is a very nice looking Go Bragh x TB cross mare for sale on equine.com. I'd love to take a look at her, but I'm already leasing my mares out for the next season, and don't need another! :)- GAEventer I believe it is Jack who is feeling relieved not to have to compete with his elders. But thank you...his little brother by Eclipse is actually the better of the two....either way we've got high hopes for both of them as future performers. And I don't know if you've seen Oleander lately but she is another one to keep your eye on. I've been very impressed with what E's produced-Tiger is very handsome! Of course, his dam deserves just as much credit, she certainly produces quality no matter what stallion she's put to!
I have been keeping my eye on "Ole"-LOVED that cross, and how lucky to get a filly! If Elise does breed her to Dexter (I saw her post on the other thread) you may have some competition for that foal ;) !

Purplnurpl, tell me if I see things accurately (hard to, with pics, of course) with Boomer: withers, jumpers bump, better defined shoulder, three more inches of neck. (Say, did you find that his movement also matured with his body? I wonder about that when proportions change and especially when the withers come up.) IMO, absolute proof that breeders put way too much stock in the youngster's looks in its early years (although your fellow was a handsome beastie even as a baby, of course!). He looks like he would have had a perfectly good (and potentially lucrative for you) career as a regular working hunter. Any regrets? Was he always a keeper for you? (Endeavor looked like a totally different horse from one year to the next! What a difference.)

yes, I learned to pick the ugliest babies I can find. lol. I thought Boomer was an odd duck when he was young.
Well Endeavor's issue was that he was being fed an entire scoop of beet pulp measured dry. An entire scoop of Triple Crown Complete
and an entire scoop of Omelene 200
two times a day.
ya, he was hard to ride too.
So I brought him to my house and took away his food and gave him beet pulp and diet balancer and nice alfalfa.
With Boomer. Oui. What a story.
I bought his sister. Never wanted him. Took me 6 months to start liking him.
I'll give you the fun story via PM. : ) It is pretty funny.

I would say definitely but also dependent on quality of training. Just my two cents but the ones that seem to take a while (seemingly forever) tend to last longer and go farther while others seem to burn out mentally or have other physical issues catch up to them. Anybody?
