some of you know maxx, so wanted to post here as well.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

maxx was my one star event horse, he lived a very cruel and rough life before me, but we really clicked when i found him. maxx is older now in his 20's. he had an impaction colic in nov. got through that and was fine for most of dec. then started to back off his feed and a couple of days later the hay too. then the runny poops showed up, pretty much poop colored water, still wanted to go out to graze, vet was out today, we pulled blood, white count is at 13,000( a little high) and protein levels are a little high as well.(8) we tubed him with bio-sponge. he is on metro 3 x a day and gentocin 30 cc's 1 x day, and babamine 2 x day. he did get a fever this morning before the vet got there, 102.6 but came down with a cold bath and banamine. no runny poops all day, but no poop at all now. a small cow patty at turnout. but he just looks like he feels really blah, but is walking around with the herd(did not want to be inside) just standing with them. so please jingle this is something we can treat, not sure i am ready to see him go quite yet.but will let him go if it is time, i will not let him suffer. vet wants to take it day by day, does not want to give up on him quite yet.i love the horse like he was my own child, jingle hard and fast. thanks all,
stacey

Has anyone noticed that the original and all subsequent posts are dated January 4 - which is TOMORROW!

Or is it just that all COTHers are faster than the rest of the world!!

I DO hope your horse improves. Lots of good wishes from Texas!!

I was so sorry to open COTH and see this. My deepest condolences on the loss of Maxx. Your love for him has always come through in all of your posts, and even in your first post, you put his well-being first.

I'm sure that he felt blessed that he was your partner, and that you two were lucky to have found each other. Perhaps when you're ready, you'll share a favorite Maxx story or two. In the meantime, grieve for the grand old fella.

I'm so sorry to hear this. My old lady Alison is very sick right now too, but being the iron horse that she is, is still with us.

I hate that they have to get old like this.
Every day I look out and hope all is well, knowing that one day, it won't be.

thanks guys, this is still a little raw for me, i have been checking in reading the post, but it just makes me cry harder. he was my soul mate in horses, and i will never forget him, i feel like it (the pain) will never go away. i did get to bury him on the farm, so that helps. but i can't even think about going down to feed tomorrow morning without him there :(

Hi Stacy

Maxx's friend Rullah also crossed the rainbow bridge a few weeks back - I just learned today.

I'm thinking about a Ralph clinic - area III adult riders, I think - maybe at Longwood... a long time back, and Maxx was being an absolute butt! And you had the time of your life.

RIP my friend

Oh Stacey, I'm so sorry. I lost 24 yo George the same way this summer. Like a previous poster, George and I rode with you in a Ralph clinic at Longwood....maybe more than once. I still haven't put another horse in George's stall but we can all take solace in the thought that all of those old eventers are galloping around without pain on the other side of the bridge.

Stacey, I am so sorry to read this.

Buzzy and JayKay were probably waiting for him on the other side of the Bridge to show him around.

It is hard. Much harder than I expected. I still have a hard time seeing Buzzy's feed buckets sitting to the side in my feed room.

Extra hugs to you, and Godspeed to Maxx.

So sorry. Thoughts and prayers with you.

I don't know if this helps, but when I lose a friend in my care, I try to console myself by remembering that it's one of the few things in life you can see through all the way to the end. Each one is, in its way, a little victory. You done right by that one.

You done right. He was loved, cared for, and respected, right to the end.

Big hugs.
