Ok I need some more help with tradition and proper attire. I really like knowing and wearing what is correct but in most of the books I can't find anything about "gloves". Specifically I am a man with my colors, so what color and type of gloves should I wear. Thanks in advance for any help.

I always believed that brown gloves were the only real stipulation, but then again I am somewhat new myself to the hunting world.

I have large hands and trying to find a pair that were brown (and fitted) turned out to be quite an adventure taking well over a year and no sucess with any of the online stores.
Fortunately the 'Bionic Glove' website had a pair that not only fitted me, but also came in brown - heck, they even offered to make a made to measure pair from a photocopy of my hand if their XXL pair didn't fit. :)

I'll let y'all in on a little secret.

Don't buy brown riding gloves.

Go to the feed store and buy the brown gloves farmers wear. You'll pay something like 12$ for a strong pair of brown work gloves that you can ride in, will hold up to barbed wire, toting hay, pretty much anything. My most recent ones are about 6 years old I think. I use them for everything, including hunting in trappy country with lots of hidden wire. Tough gloves!!

You can look fabulous, perfectly and correctly turned out, and not spend a fortune. (unless you want to)

That's my New Years gift to all y'all, and yes, I have been hitting the eggnog tonight. (even added extra brandy):D

Tried that too - I still had a problem with those... :p I could use them for working around the stables, but just not comfortable/dexterious enough for riding.

(I have the opposite - very small hands- hard to find gloves too)

Oh crap - eggnog is running low. Must switch to straight brandy. oh goody - I've got a bottle of eau de vie, too. :D

Where can one get the correct string gloves? without spending a fortune of course.
I have been using the beige and tan crochet back SSG gloves but I would like to really be correct.

Try a western tack store...come in all colors and some of them cowboys got really big hands.

I just bought a pair of brown ssg gloves from tri county feed in marshall, va. I bought the ones with a snap at the wrist. they work well with my shirt with thumb holes. tri county started out 30 years ago as a feed store and are now a total tack/supply store as well. I have very long fingers for a girl and these fit me really well. also tri county was having a buy one get one half price sale.

I bought a pair of kangaroo ropers at cabelas. They are really supple and tough and not all that expensive.
