Just curious. My SO and I are going to be taking a mini weekend trip up to Dillard, GA on Friday and will be spending the night and traveling around on Saturday as well (possibly Sunday). Any COTHers in the area want to meet us for lunch or dinner somewhere?

We're going up on Friday, and we've rented a chalet at the Dillard House. I know the area well as NE Georgia and North Central Georgia are my "stomping" grounds. We plan on heading into Cashiers and Highlands, NC, and I'm trying to find "horsey" things to do for the SO....since this is his "make up" birthday weekend (last Sunday was his birthday, but his grandmother passed away on Christmas Eve so it wasn't too celebratory).

Any "horsey" ideas welcomed as well :) (And yes, we're outdoorsy people)

No, but please stop by at "Goats on the Roof" on your way up there. I've zipped past it 4 times so far (I use that road as my route to NE TN) and I've never stopped in. I'm intrigued though. It's probably a total tourist trap type place, but I'm still intrigued. It's on a bend just north of Tallulah, on the southbound side.

ETA - hah - my granny (a Nantahallah area native) used to always say "if wishes were horses, beggars would ride" in response to"I wish..." and "I want" received a "lot of people wanting out of jail, hon" as well. :D

I've never heard of "Goats on the Roof," but it looks corny enough to DEFINITELY stop in...and take pictures, too! lol

well let me just say there are indeed, "goats on the roof"

I think it's new, I travel up that road a few times a year heading home to family and I've never noticed it before Thanksgiving. Then again I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer so it could have been there for a while.

We stay in Dillard in Woffork Valley every year and one of my good friends works at the Dillard House stables as a trail guide..ask for Laura McCue, tell her Lori from Florida sent you.
We have been at Goats on the Roof, yes there are goats on the roof! It is a nice little farmers market, with local made jellies, wine and cider. Got a beautiful wreath there last year. Highlands is a great place to visit, be sure to go to the Nature Center and go across the street to the mountain tops that overlook Highlands. Either direction out of Highlands is a great drive! I love the area, hope to someday move there!

We will have to venture to the Dillard House Stables (already on our list). I've been to Highlands and Cashiers, NC....Andrew's never been to any of the places.

There is a great little pizza place in Cashiers. The owners are from NY or NJ. It's funny because when I visited them about 3 years ago, there was a sign that "small firearm training" was held at the pizza place after hours - lol.

No, no. You want to have dinner at Horacio's in Cashiers. David and I honeymooned there, staying at Innisfree Victorian Inn, and Horacio' is TO DIE FOR good!!!!!

You'll get to pig out at the Dillard House. I'm jealous. I love eating at that place.

Honey...we're ho-ome!

Man did we have a blast! We stopped at Goats on the Roof. It is definitely a good place to stop - even if just to use the restroom and visit with the goats. As soon as Andrew loads the pictures onto the computer, I'll post some. So funny!

We ended up trail riding at Dillard. They were non-pushy and relieved that they had two riders riding with them. We were a little peeved at some of the other people requesting rides that turned their noses up at synthetic western saddles and no "purebred" horses. I ended up riding an 18 hand Belgian gelding (who tried to make out with me the evening before when we went back to visit the horses before dinner). Andrew ended up riding Jake, a Percheron/Morgan cross whose ideal speed was slower-than-everyone-else. I hopped down off Joe, the Belgian (about a 4 foot drop to the ground) and felt as though I had been in a cheerleader jump the entire time riding (also have pics).

All in all, we had a blast and will head up there again.
