I am on my laptop right now, so I don't have all of my embarrassingly awful pictures. However, I will dig them up tomorrow and post them here. In the mean time let's see your WORST hunter and/or equitation pictures.
P.S. No criticisms on this thread. Any critical commenters will have the COTH dogs unleashed on them.

This was taken in Chile...
The funniest thing, I COULD NOT RIDE in Chile.... It was humiliating... right at the very end I got better, but I left the states doing the modified jumpers and couldn't jump a crossrail in Chile... they all thought I was nuts... Luckily my trainer was soo patient and believed that somewhere under the language barrier and endless nerves was someone would could at least play someone who rides on TV :)
Nonetheless, the horse i rode there was green, but super cool and very fun... so heres my hideous pic :)

OH BOY !!!!!!
:D:lol::lol::lol: love everyones so far.
i have an entire SERIES of pictures of me falling and fracturing my hip at HITS a few yrs ago--if i printed them, i could make a flipbook! theyre probably some of my fav pics
it'll take some convincing for me to post them, just because it will take a long time to get all the links for the pics in order !
actually, screw it.
Here is the jump that leads to my demise.. (you wont believe this, but i had an AMAZING first jump of this course, then i had to go around a roll back and got distracted by a buzzer from a jumper ring .....LOL.... and then iwaslike OH GOD I HAVE TO TURN .. oh god i was supposed to turn a while ago.. so i scramble to the jump, get the ugliest distance..if you could call it that. and then here comes this oxer at the end of the line and it was clearly nasty!)
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y295/alkalineEXPLOSION/HORSE/HITS/Saugerties%20July%2027th%202007%20AA%20rated/thmb_518dSJ6I0260.jpg
upon landing, i will smack back into the saddle, my spurs will WHAM into my poor pony's side, he will take off and i will decide now that i am practically on his neck that it's a good idea to slip off right now and i'll make up for it in the next round .. this will also terrify my pony even more and he will buck when i fall off (which i will not have, because i'll have to go to the hospital instead. fun! but i bought the rest of the division some more time to get to the ring for the hack, which was conveniently right after my rounds)
okay, here comes the AWESOME pictures of me falling! (many thanks to ESI photogs who captured my fall ;))

Corey - That's a great shot!
Superpony - don't you just love fast shutters? I love sequences like that, although, thankfully, I don't have any of me(like that!)
I'll have to dig through some of my old shots. I know I have an absolutely horrible few out there!

This was what happened when my horse got looky out of a short corner looking at the line. I put my leg on, but he was stopping... and then I stuck my spurs in him... and threw myself up his neck because he acted like he was going to hop out of it...
http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t160/BenjaminBug/Picture4.png
He backed up out of it... taking both standards and all the poles with him and scaring himself. My trainer laughed at me. I was laughing the rest of the way around the course.
The second time around... just for reference that I can sorta ride.

I have to laugh. Every time I click on a poster's Facebook link to see their picture, I get an error message, then the picture. Given the topic, the message is quite appropriate:
Something went wrong. We're working on getting this fixed as soon as we can. You may be able to try again.

ahahaha wow we have a couple good chips! And by watching of your rounds you can tell you probably don't do that very often haha. Those kinds of rides are just 'schooling' off the front rail right? ;) I have to show you the video of mine now though. The pics below are my favorite of my mare. We came down off of a bank and had a few strides before the USA fence. She stopped the first time and it took everything I had to get her over it this time...at least I stayed somewhat centered

For the record, my mare is Canadian bred and was obviously fairly put out that I expected her to jump the american flag while IN her home country. She didn't even bat an eye at the Canadian flag jump that came later in the week.

these are a couple years old, the horse was an 18 year old TB mare i leased, we got her to start her again after a year and a half of not working, supposedly ex eq horse, but she was most likely a jumper...
the class, beginning w/t over cross rails(ok they cancelled the class i was originally going to do) they were the smallest cross rail i ever saw, easily walk over able...
thank god she was forgiving poor mouth.. but look her legs are swimming!

http://pets.webshots.com/photo/2157616150100844553DXrcEl
That was in the A/O's in Tucson maybe 4 years ago? I was having a lovely round, that was the last jump coming out of a line and my brain for some reason said the line was supposed to be a 6 when in fact it was an easy 5. That would be the result of a serious ammy moment! I had this picture in my trunk for a long time to remind me that my horse would do just about everything possible to get me out of trouble.
And yes...I had braid rub on my chin...

sorry that there are so many - i've had quite an adventure with my mare...
Medal Round (http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1034069140989) -- Ended up getting 2nd. I thought it was a lot worse than it looked, I guess. The last line was suppose to be a forward 5 (which I wanted) and I guess I got the 6 instead.
Zandra Powers Horsemanship Class (http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1034072141064) -- was actually a really good round until I fell off at 2nd to last jump. 1st time off the mare at a show. Both of us were surprised - she usually saves my butt. I even ripped out a handful of braids. Next year - my goal is to simply stay on for whole course.
next series of photos is my 1st year doing 3' with a very strong and forward mare....

ahahaha wow we have a couple good chips! And by watching of your rounds you can tell you probably don't do that very often haha. Those kinds of rides are just 'schooling' off the front rail right? ;) I have to show you the video of mine now though. My trainer was threatening to demote me to the 3'0ft ring again haha I was in a speed class, and I was jumping into a two stride... I am completely amazed my horse jumped it clean- we even ended up in second?!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zocgvtdk0BA skip to 50 seconds
Hahahahaha, yours is awesome!
Mine was unexpected - I had never used that bit before and I half halted the way I would in my old bit (which she didn't listen to) and was VERY surprised when she listened, so we ended up adding. Thus, the chocolate chip was born. We ended up second too!! Goooo chipping people in 2nd!
Edited to add: Mine was even broadcast on the live feed from the Syracuse Invitational, so I'm sure there were people on here who saw it!

I don't have any recent ones, so you'll have to humor me and my 15+ yr old photo. I was probably about 12 or 13 in this picture? This is my childhood pony who was otherwise a saint. I'm surprised I never broke a finger with those open hands! I love how my mother is in the background totally not flinching.

(Also, feel free to laugh at my hair flouncing about like some sort of retro-fabulous afro. It adds to the drama of the fall, really. Why my aunt let me ride with my hair flying all over the place is still a mystery. We were at Kevin Freeman's barn. He's been to the Olympics, and here I am, looking like a local-yokel.)

Also, the first 25 seconds of this is pretty terrible. Nice and sloppy to fence 1, pull the rail and then get mad about it. Refuse to mentally let it go and crumble right in to the in-and-out. I make use of an embarassingly loud "AAAAAAGH - GET!" to get out of it. It's even subtitled for your amusement.

For the record, my mare is Canadian bred and was obviously fairly put out that I expected her to jump the american flag while IN her home country. She didn't even bat an eye at the Canadian flag jump that came later in the week.
That's funny...here is a non-too-flattering pic of my USA bred OTTB having a big look at a Canadian flag themed fence at one of his first shows:
http://www.caughtinmotion.com/2008-bsf-july/266-07-13-08--07-13-08-6043.htm

Somewhere, I have a fabulous picture from the very early 80s of myself on my Children's Hunter, stag-leaping into the air from a distance approximately the length of an airport runway, with the flash from the camera glinting off the braces on my teeth as I grimaced and the mare's eyes rolled back in her head...
My mother and I framed it and gave it to my trainer for Christmas.
I have GOT to find it! It's a classic!

This doesn't look quite as dramatic as my mistake as Nigel is quite good at covering up for me but basically I rode backwards to this long one stride across the short side of the arena, chocolate chipped the in and saved my arse jumping out. No faults! And what fabulous strong knees I have!

These are pictures of a large pony I bred. The first two are from when he was learning to jump. :o
It took him about a year to figure out where the feet went. The last three pictures are from this year. Same pony, same rider.
those are great pictures! the before and after.
my trainer told me it takes 1000 jumps to know a horse's style. she said that in the beginning they are trying to figure it out. she has had lots of horses that jumped badly to start, but ended up jumping very cute and square!
i said great, so if my green horse starts out jumping badly no need to cry! but actually he is figuring things out quite quickly on his own. today, he was adjusting his step so he could meet the fence at a nice distance. basically backing himself off if it was going to get tight and putting in a great effort!
thanks for sharing your pictures!

What happens when you show for the first time in three years on a very hot jumper and get there pretty much completely wrong:
Leave long! No...wait...chip! (http://cdchambers.smugmug.com/gallery/6211082_cJeyp#391605092_CG3CM-M-LB)
Luckily, he is a forgiving soul (http://cdchambers.smugmug.com/gallery/6211087_f85S7#391610653_coAJq-M-LB). Never mind the release--it's a quirk of this particular horse that you can't shorten your reins (or he'll accelerate) and you'd best not release in a combination, or you'll be eating the subsequent obstacles.

I wish I had a picture of this...but maybe I'm glad I don't! But here's a description of one of my less-than-stellar moments!
I was riding Patrick, a 15 hand QH, very short backed, short strided. He loved to jump, but sometimes it was like you had a basketball underneath you to sit on. We were going through a one stride in-and-out, plenty of room for him to take that one stride --- but the stinker did it as a bounce instead. Left me BEHIND the saddle, and I have no idea how I stayed on!

Here's my offerings to the bad picture hall of fame:
Please note how close we are to the standard. (http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g14/slorugbug/horse%20stuff/Showpig.jpg)That is the last stripe on the pole we are jumping over. Horse likes to drift left, which of course, is my weak side.
To drive home my point about the left leg, (http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g14/slorugbug/horse%20stuff/OandTcroooked.jpg)can you say uneven legs?
The Fall (http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g14/slorugbug/horse%20stuff/Fall.jpg)
The Stop (http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g14/slorugbug/horse%20stuff/TSummers113007023.jpg)
And a little proof (http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g14/slorugbug/horse%20stuff/TSummers113007002.jpg)that I'm not a total baboon on horseback

Thankfully, I only have a few photos that are awful because I'm riding terribly.
This is one of them; I was riding my first horse Addie. She was just the right horse; she was a saint at keeping me safe and out of trouble, and yet still made you learn to ride at the same time. She gave me the confidence to buy a completely green baby as my second horse.
This was WAY too long and I got very left behind.

I once read something about "if the only thing touching your horse is your hands, than you're in trouble". Well, I'd say this photo comes pretty close, my upper body is technically touching his neck, but I don't think that was helping much.
http://i40.tinypic.com/20z8jh4.jpg
Ground poles are always great for equitation photos too.
http://i44.tinypic.com/16lblzm.jpg
Hitting yourself in a failed pommel humping attempt on the take-off, then saying a certain word that starts with f over the fence right in front of the judge is a really great way to put a big smile on your face in the middle of a massive meltdown.
http://i43.tinypic.com/2je6tj.jpg
Then again, you can just save time and crosscanter into the fence.

With apologies to Vidal Photography for screencapping this off of their site.
This is my sister's horse (no, he's a horse. I know I make him look like a pony) whom she graciously allowed me to ride at our local association's year-end Benefit show. He was having a slight difficulty with the idea of not jumping to the right over a fence, which causes problems when you have a tight left-hand rollback ahead.
I was tempted to buy the photo just because it was so funny.

Okay, ON that note... here's one of me & Havoline in our first Level 4 jumper class and I'd say this is pretty much the anti-thesis of a good position over a jump. I don't think this is what is meant by a straight line from elbow / hand / mouth.

TidyRabbit, I am in love with your horse! WOW! And Beau Cheval, yours is such a trier!
I love looking at the horses in these pictures; it makes me smile to know that these good-hearted souls will pull our sorry butts out of our stupid problems. Well, at least mine will. I seem to recall a few mischievous horses in here who CAUSED the problems.

Okay, ON that note... here's one of me & Havoline in our first Level 4 jumper class and I'd say this is pretty much the anti-thesis of a good position over a jump. I don't think this is what is meant by a straight line from elbow / hand / mouth.
http://pets.webshots.com/photo/2986697820048495570DtGgXf
Gotta love Havoline though! Bless him and his superman style jumping.
My lord I can see how you would get left behind! Your horse is probably jumping 2 feet over the already big jump! He is almost jumping the standards. He is cute though! Definitely clearing it!

hopefully this link works - if not you can see the pic in my siganture line webshots - under Horses I Have Shown/Leased - bottom row, second pic from left. This was a horse that came into the barn for sale. I got to show him in the childrens jumpers, and it wasnt until this fence that we learned he had a dirty stop in him. I managed, somehow, to stay on though!

ahahaha wow we have a couple good chips!

We are supposed to be jumping the green and white fence to the left of the one we're sliding into. I think the horse knew that, as I aimed him at this one and he started putting on the brakes. All the way into this fence, I'm thinking, "What a funny angle for a rollback!"

I wonder if it's the same announcer that does the GPs at Menlo (Menlo Charity Horse Show in Nor Cal in the summer)? Let me tell you, that guy is absolutely hysterical. A bit, err, off color sometimes but well worth listening to :)

We must have ridden "together" back then :)
I used to show against Ghostbuster and Ellen. The thing that was so funny was that he *needed* that theme music to pick up the right pace. He was always a little "off" (i.e. slow, NOT lame!) when Ned didn't play the music.

Oh, I've got a beauty today! A friend and I set up a gymnastic and went through it a bunch of times and changed it up. One of the last modifications included a low oxer that was 3 poles wide (only 15" high, but 2.5'-3' wide). Friend's horse refused it, which made me think my dumb gelding would refuse... we took our turn, and low and behold he went over it! I was so excited, I forgot to ride the crossrail that was one stride after the oxer....

I wish I had photos, but one of my girlfriends' horses bucked through an entire adult medal class last year - buck to the fence, jump, buck to the next fence - complete with mare squeals from her gelding accompianing each buck. I was rolling watching them. We went to the videographer and she showed us the footage for free b/c it was so funny. When we said something, she was like "Oh! YOU were the one on the chestnut!"
I don't have photos of my loveliest eq moments, but most of them involve either me on her neck or taking the fence without her. Darn! I did get a round of applause once when my horse stopped short and I landed on her neck, hanging on for dear life. The only thing I could think was that I'd spent too much $$ to enter the class to not finish it! She stopped, I did a push-up back into the saddle and finished the course laughing. Needless to say, we didn't place in that one!

[QUOTE=*JumpIt*;3765835]This was the ponies first show and this happened to be the biggest jump he'd ever jumped. He hesitated right before and well....I didn't.
I had gotten a proof of me making a huge error in a schooling jumper class years ago. I was stupid and didn't purchase it as I was pretty upset that I put my poor horse through that. Now I wish I had, it was a great shot; the horse was fine, my ego not so great back then!

Here's a beauty from one of my first shows with Rusty... the time in our career when he was able to get away with taking off in the show ring, had an ugly over-developed underneck (head up all the time...), and, apparently, I had a very different idea of a release! :D Although I doubt we pinned, we made it in the newspaper! Needless to say, four years more experience and a new amazing instructor has made a huge difference for both of us; we're going to NJ 4H states for Eq over fences, among other things!

This was a jumper class at our big breed show a few years ago, where they watered the ring but forgot to drag it. Since puddles are actually HORSE EATING NINJAS PLANNING A DEADLY AMBUSH we had some... artistic jumping efforts. And thus, I completely and entirely forgot I had ever learned anything about going over fences:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b246/nowthatsatrot/willie/ncss07_j2.png
The sad thing is, since it was only jumpers we actually did win. Said his old owner, after watching the class: "You know, he never did like puddles. He nearly killed me once swerving away from one on the track." Awesome trait for a Big Bad Eventer (who incidentally loves to swim in lakes and streams and goes in/through/out of water complexes happily).

Oh it came down...both top rails. I was sitting up to try to allow her to stop (which would have been a better option for sure!), but she was pissed at my poor turning decision that put us parallel to a square oxer 1/2 a stride out heading into the 2-stride (which we did in 3) right before this, and decided to take matters into her own hooves. Turns out her decision was no better than mine  We were several seconds faster than the winning horse in the jump-off, but a whole lotta good that does when you jump THROUGH the top of the last fence

LOL I think the best part about this is that some photographer took a look at your facial expression and thought "hmm, this looks like a girl who's having fun!"

I think it's sweet to support and encourage your horse with a hug over the fence
I just got this beauty taken over the last fence in the jump-off last week. I guess THIS: http://pets.webshots.com/photo/2094489060094686761iCXDEQ
is the trick to getting my mare to jump with nicely squared up knees
I love that your heels are down and your leg is underneath you AND your eyes are up. Your lovely mare is well turned out and your tack looks clean. Your mare is really using her neck well and your automatic release is really encouraging her to wrap herself around the jump.

Oh it came down...both top rails.... We were several seconds faster than the winning horse in the jump-off, but a whole lotta good that does when you jump THROUGH the top of the last fence
Yes, but it's still only 4 faults! May as well make it spectacular!

How to jump a single vertical:
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l181/kk101190/goldcoast014.jpg
Ride backwards, backwards, backwards, until you come to a complete stop at the base of said jump. As your body catapults up onto your horse's neck (because leaning is the way to go!), horse will then continue forward motion and jump obstacle from a standstill. Once rider is deposited on the ground, horse will gallop around the equidome for enough time to drag out rider's embarrassment endlessly.
Ok, so this horse had a lovely habit of landing with his head between his knees and spinning riders off. I had confidence issues in the first place so it wasn't a great combo. At the first sign of danger (deep spot, long spot, anything out of the ordinary, really) I'd adopt an oh-crap-jump-for-my-horse-while-yanking-his-mouth-off break and the results were ugly:
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l181/kk101190/DSC01561.jpg
Ughhh.
And then there's the caught by surprise moment when my horse decides the tiny crossrail is either going to eat him or has grown magically.
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l181/kk101190/DSC_0109.jpg
Oh the joys of epic failure

To bad my instructor didn't get a picture of us last week.
We were taking a corner and doing a bend. Well the exercise was that we do the bend and take the cross-rail and than do the bend again. Basically jumping on a 20 m circle.
Yeah..first direction absolutely beautiful, flawless. Second direction...missed the fence the first time...2nd time came in WAY to fast, got the oh sh-t moment, took the fence. Well horse is getting used to me NOT banging him in the mouth and slamming his back. He bucked post fence and I did a faceplant. I tucked-rolled and sat up laughing. Going oops..
Learned my lesson....

Here's my add's...
First is a 4 year old top of the line, green as grass, spooky small attempting to jump his first vertical with scary fill.... He stopped at it, so I let him sniff the flowers, and then he proceeded to launch himself over it...I was just going to turn around and approach it again! I loved that pony. He is now successfully in the hunter ring though!
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e167/xoxjbabiiexox/dan.jpg
The second is of a girl I used to board with....had to put it up because this jump is RIDICULOUS...look how small the actual jump is and look where the horse is..impossible to equitate on! This is at small schooling two phase not a hunter or eq show, thank God. They went home and did their homework after this one!

It has been great fun navigating through all 11 pages of this thread! Great to see everyone having fun at their own expense. Sadly, I have no photos to add. Not that those jumps haven't been there (a lot!), I just don't have photographic evidence. These photos are reinforcement for why I am not interested in having an animal communicator read my horse. I don't REALLY want to know what she thinks about me! I am a firm believer in, "If you don't want to know the answer, don't ask the question."

Poor little guy did jump from that horrible ride, too, which of course tossed me out of the saddle and onto his neck. Somehow he had the grace to swap leads and continue around the corner to the next line, all with me desperately scrambling backwards off of his neck and into the saddle. I managed to grab my stirrups back about 2 strides out from the next fence, and we finished like nothing had happened. I got quite the reception from the other trainers and riders waiting at the ingate when we came out!

My pony HATES water. At a show this past spring, it happened to rain during our classes. For our last trip, there was a huge watery puddle in front of an oxer. My pony really surprised me by taking a leap of death.
Part one. (http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs020.snc1/4241_184230470322_765875322_6494875_8078177_n.jpg)

I did manage to stay on and continued on as if nothing had happened. When I watched the video of the trip, there was a collected "gasp" as we went over that oxer and for the whole rest of the trip people I didn't even know were discussing what had happened. None of them guessed water.

Imagine the winning trip in the second round of the childrens classic, all is going just perfect, the last line is a going four (perfect for horses monster stride) to a two stride ( that was sooo short). Four is perfect. two? not so much almost jump out in one then lean and chocolate chip for the 2. we got a 69. hahaha

here's a beauty for ya...
this guy is only 6 years old and before he got into the swing of things at the horse show, we were jumping kinda big and SUPER poppy. i managed to stay with him for most of them...except this one.
i think maybe i was saying "oh god!" in the air by my facial expression...or maybe "woah!"

I must have no shame. Most of my horrible eq pictures happen over really small jumps...all of these are teenytiny anyways. I'm hoping I have better eq...and no one gets pictures. :( I'm posting two that I hope will redeem me...I think they're just as bad though. Sorry, they're all Facebook. They should work though.
Yikes. Heels, standing, and leg slipping all in one picture.

Stirrups are way too long, bad release laying on her neck...

Horrible bareback photo. I do usually have better eq bareback than saddled up lol. Obviously not this time.

SO ahead. Stirrups too long. Coincidence? I think not.

Still pretty bad, and very old, and over tiny obstacles, but the only semi-ok pictures. My dad always chooses the worst days to come. And I'm a perfectionist, and I over-think everything, so when I'm thinking about my position for the camera...I lose the "just do it" feeling/position. I swear, I can ride!

How about a tremendously overly enthusiastic (http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs167.snc1/6260_137544376210_598196210_3626250_3016165_n.jpg) mare? We were at a local hunter show, and she apparently wanted to get in some practice for the Grand National. (http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs187.snc1/6260_137545856210_598196210_3626256_7880243_n.jpg) Wheeee! The ground was soupy, she was obviously quite fresh, and she was doing her best to avoid the chopped up ground both in front of and after the fences by just leaping over it all!

I was taking pictures of the $75000 Grand Prix in Ottawa just the other week - there were definitely some differences in position! A few of the more memorable shots are:

I've got an album full of awkward shots taken from a horse show in England.
Most of the photos are of "hunters" who show with figure 8 nosebands, running martingales, and boots:eek::confused::eek:. Feel free to flip through the album and enjoy the other pictures too

I honestly LOL'd at this for forever. That is so funny!
And the Hillbilly farms website's description of the horses on there? TOO. FREAKIN. FUNNY!
"This hot-headed chestnut mare has finally been sold. But instead of losing a horse, we gained a Hillbilly. Let's extend a warm, hillbilly welcome to Shelby's new owner and pass her some sadl-tite."
Gives me some hope on being able to sell my guy...

we broke the top pole, and managed to knock the whole jump over
..... just talking to someone and jumping at the same time. He's a doll and takes care of me when I'm being stupid

after the last jump, would have won the class too! (this was about 5 years ago?)
