So as another year comes to a close (and I become a year older- bday 12/31) seems like a good time to recap the best of the COTH. I am sure I am missing some here, but my top five, "get-the-popcorn, sitdown-and-kill-a-few-hours-reading-through-11-pages," threads were:

5. Am I too fat to ride my horse?
4. Florida horse saga
3.kid in my pasture
2. crayola trainer
1. Anything on the eventing forum related to Laine (admittedly a trainwreck, morbid fascination attraction to these- I JUST can't help myself)

So who wants to play?

You forgot anything to do with barefoot trimming!

And many discussions about ulcers and the causes/cures for them...

We had some good Olympic specialty popcorn threads:

McClain in the awards ceremony.

Anky and her non halt.

Brentina and her perceived problems which were vehemently denied by the rider and 3 vets (as someone on that thread said, where are these 3 vets who all agree that a horse has no problems at all, and can they come do the PPE on my horse I'm trying to sell/buy?)

I still haven't made it through the Child in my Pasture thread. I'd been following it, then was away from COTH for a bit, came back and decided I lacked the motivation to read that many pages. Working on it though!

Have to vote for anything Parelli or slaughter and not just on this forum but all of the other forums I have visited. Seems that if you are looking for an entertaining evening of beer and popcorn just start a topic on one of these subjects, start the fire, pop the pocorn, crack the brew (or wine) open, return to the computer for a relaxing evening of fireworks that will surely turn into 5-10 pages of name calling posts by sun up.

Being in Canada, I love the annual Thanksgiving Canadian Invasion threads and the Meese topics. I can always burst out laughing as some of your antics (Both sides of the border and over the Peter Man's Bridge, etc.)

I like the crazy, hilarious ones.

I read the threads that bring out the best in people.

I can't read the negataive, whining threads from people who will not let go of a subject,
but show their true colours. I always feel I have to stick up for the under-dog who is getting attacked.

I don't know if SFHSA would be a good popcorn thread. It's so funny, people might laugh, choke on popcorn and die and we could potentially get a lawsuit...:p:lol::winkgrin:

And I've thoroughly enjoyed the recent threads regarding Laine Ashker... especially when her stalker chimed in.

Alrighty, kids, I need links. The only one I actually read was Child In My Pasture.

Nothing, but nothing, will ever top the Chanter thread, perhaps because I knew the protagonist from another list and already suspected she was a bit...loopy.

Um...

OK, the aforementioned McClain thread. People really read faaaaar too much into just about everything.

the Crayon trainer thread (I believe I took melon?)

Virtually ANY thread involving NH, especially the ones started "oh so innocently." Either the OP's are just plain STUPID or they surely know what they are doing.

The recent GM thread on Off Course. In which we learned that he is indeed a god, he invented the crest release (um, not), that the crest release is responsible for the decline of Western Civilization, as well as the inclusion at "A" shows of those bottom feeders in the Adult Hunters . (dear god, people. so unless you can jump 3'6" or higher, you shouldn't be alllowed at an "A" show?? BULLCRAP!) I'm pretty sure the OP was asking in earnest, but that whole thing was 'interesting'.

Crossed Sabers/SWAP disaster. SOmehow that nutbag got hold of my SO's email addy and now *I* get her insane "sale" and "begging" emails. sigh.

And, while I did miss it, my trainer likes the "shamateur" thread from H/J. (link, any one?) Apparently it wound up involving a particular trainer from these parts and his shamateur. sigh.

I'm not sure how to post forum links, sorry.

Barefoot or Shoes
Slaughter

Always love those "Do you believe" or "How can anyone be so stupid" threads.

Then there is the "train wreck" threads where someone finds a need to post about something horrible and everyone gets to jump in and assess blame.

Guess when you have two groups that believe they have all the answers and the other is dead wrong , is when you get the marathon threads.

Well, I did finally read through the Florida Horse saga and it was pretty amusing. And enlightening! I never thought people would do what people did in that thread.

The Crayola trainer thread was also amusing. Would still pay money to see the actual letter.

But I've looked and looked (for some time now) for the Chanter thread, since it has come up before. Does anyone have a link to it? Pleeaassee???? I bought some popcorn and cheap champagne today and want to put them to good use. :D

I believe this is the second one in the saga, in which Chanter shows herself to be rather...um, unbalanced. There is another one from more recently (within the past 12 months maybe) when she uses an alter to accuse her helper of all kinds of awful things. I can't remember what alter she used, so I can't search for that one.

Any particular insight as to why she is banned? A quick synopsis? I'm getting an "impression" from the first thread that she might be a bit...victimized...but it seems like alot of people went totally out of their way to help her. It's inspiring when COTH unites...and sad to get the impression that they were potentially taken advantage of. I'll have to dig in to the threads because I've always wondered just what the heck the references to Chanter were all about!!

Re: Chanter-- I don't remember exactly why she was banned. I vaguely remember that there was maybe another thread or two in which she got really nasty and I think that Erin finally had enough of breaking up the fights. I could be wrong, so if anyone else remembers, please correct me. I certainly hope that she got the help she so clearly was needing.

The one JSwan mentions was a doozy, too. Definitely search for some of her threads!

I read this thread and saw the links for the Chanter threads that Ddashaq posted:

http://www.chronicleforums.com/Forum...hlight=Chanter

Took me a while to read those. Made a pan of popcorn and had a drinky-poo and read the whole thing.

What happened???

Did ChanterHelper ever get her out of there? How did that happen?
Did Chanter post again?

It's like when you watch a movie and it ends without you knowing what happened.....Durn.

Chanter left eventually. Stayed in the area. Came back on a while later trying to "destroy" the reputation of the person who took her in...just as Chanter promised to do. Posted photos of the property and one of the horses the BO had that was foundered and under vet care. Chanter took the most misleading photos she could while she was there...sneaking around to do it and then tried to skew a story about the scenerio and get everyone to hate CHelper for kicking her lazy scamming butt out. Chanter was then banned I think.
That was one helluva saga.

The Florida horse saga gets my top vote, stick art is just plain dangerous to read through while eating or drinking.... and one that got STARTED in 2008 and is still going, I believe.... is an abscess/bruising thread. Of course, anything NH or barefoot as well.

Ah Vanheim...forgot that one! CP was always an interesting train wreck...if a repetitive one with all the ADA crap brought into every...single...conversation. Musical Jumper...huge mess. Lisa xxx whatever...anyone remember that one? Isn't she the one who had to photoshop pants on her kids who were running through the turnouts nekked from the waist down and barefoot? (and they weren't little toddlers either!)
BTW...who photoshopped underwear on the stallion's gonads photo ages ago? That was hilarious!
Newest one I can think of is the Norcrest fiasco.

Crazy crayola trainer lady was my fave. I missed that Mcclain Ward and am now enjoying it.

I thought the significance of covering your heart for the pledge was because you cross your heart when making a promise, and you are making a promise during the pledge. Since you're not making any sort of promise during the anthem I always thought it was silly to cross your heart, so I never do it. I could have just made that up though.

The stolen mare thread, and Westlaw's cliffnotes.

http://www.chronicleforums.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=108654

"Here are the "Cliff Notes"

Scene One: OP purchases unbroke filly who is the most talented horse in the entire world and who will fulfill her every dream and take her to the Olympics and become president.

Scene Two: Filly turns out not to be the self-training model and requires skill to start/train. Olympics and presidency not so certain. FREAK OUT!!!

Scene Three: Filly hurts self badly and needs stall rest. Extremely unfortunate for all.

Scene Four: Filly comes off of stall rest feisty and OP has a tough time. OP asks this board whether it's okay to hate her. Filly is reported to be the most fire-breathing, dangerous, evil horse on Earth. 1% of the GDP that year is allocated to discussion of this topic. Another 1% is spent on determining whether it was mean to spend 1% on assessments of OP who, incidentally, really really loves the horse more than anything because she's the most talented horse in the world except that she hates her because she's the most dangerous horse in the world. House Financial Services Committee opens investigation into worker productivity lost to OP drama.

Scene Five: Some riding. OP takes lessons. Various dramas accounting for about 2,000 work hours among COTH membership.

Scene Six: Riding not working out. Filly advertised as not so dangerous, free leased to kid. Filly bolts and lessors don't want her anymore. The obvious conclusion to draw? Filly has "terminal" melanomas and needs to be retired. It is heartbreaking because this Filly, which was the most dangerous but most talented (but free leasable to a kid) horse in the entire observable universe, is going to die within 15 minutes. U.S. Department of Commerce reports that worker productivity has dipped to its lowest point since filly came off of stall rest.

Scene Seven: Evil horse shippers kidnap the most talented/dangerous/kid-safe/hated/loved/terminal/valuable horse in the world and send her to the wrong farm, where instead of getting the 15 minutes of leisure she richly deserves before she drops from routine tumors that less talented/dangerous/beloved horses could live with for a decade, she is in danger of being eaten by carnivorous unicorns.

Scene Eight: You're soaking in it.

I missed the florida horse saga. :( and the pants :(

Chanter story was very sad to me more than a popcorn thread. I feel bad for everyone who stepped up to help only to watch it fall to crap before them. Interestingly enough... before she had to 'leave' the place in FL she contacted me about a post I had giving away almonds and other nuts. Apparently she didn't need them though and recanted her request. You can come up with the irony on that.

Crayola trainer and child in my pasture. Very entertaining.

I also enjoy the crossed sabers threads (hmmm maybe I should send her the nuts? I'm still sending her monopoly money for her next fundraiser)

Mclain was a 'must read'. Although I think in general any post on Olympic TV coverage was even more entertaining.

All time fav has to be stick art though. It's certainly something you have to read every week. Just be sure to protect the computer and keyboard from food and drink material.

ddashaq...CP was Cellos Pride. Not sure if she was banned or just stopped coming here. She had many, many, MANY posts with dire threats that Coth was getting sued out of existence any moment by her and her husband who are both "attorneys" living on a leaky houseboat in FL...the cause of all threats of being sued were if any single poster didn't agree with her then it *must* be because she had a disability and the ADA was going to shut this BB down. Try a search on here for the name...be prepared for lots of reading. If you really want to laugh...do a google search on her and you get about a million pages of court documents of them trying to sue everyone and anyone. They don't seem to ever win, but they sure file like crazy! The courts there must have broken eye rolling muscles everytime they see either one come in the door.

SuperStb...I got a giggle out of her trying to get nuts. The saddest parts of that saga were poor CHelper getting royally screwed...all the people telling the non-believers of her ridiculous tales to shut up if they posted any warnings about her...and that someone actually sent a "burly Canadian" to her barn to threaten the supposedly "abusive" BM into leaving her alone when all along she was making crap up about that like she had for 2-3 other previous moves. Poor BM gets threatened for doing nothing to that scammer.
