View Full Version : Where to take collars to have embroidery removed for a decent price?

*sigh*
I had a few collars embroidered and the person I regularly used seems to have gone off the deep end and used HUGE FONT. It looks pretty awful. She's a nice person and does this as a hobby, I don't want to insult her. I just want to get the embroidery removed and have someone else put in a normal sized monogram.
Any ideas where you can take/send collars to have the embroidery removed? I am in the Philly/South Jersey area but would also use someone I could mail the collars to.

You can remove it yourself with good light, a manicure scissor, and maybe a magnifying glass. It's not hard, just tedious...

If there is one of those EmbroidMe chain stores in one of the malls near you, they will do it.

There is a place in Newtown Square PA, maybe 10 min from the radnor hunt grounds that will do it. I get all my collars done there. I was unhappy with how 2 came out last year and they were able to fix them for me (take them off and redo) and even did it at no charge.
also any good dry cleaners should be able to do it. I have had mine done at a few different ones as well.

just use a seam ripper, that is what they're actually made for!

This is when I want to hug my grandmother. She sewed all of her children's clothes and she also monograms (and unmonograms)

It's sooooo easy to do yourself with a seam ripper. Not quite as easy when you need to take a HUGE horse's name off of a wool cooler... ask me how I know... haha

I recently watched someone take a huge monogram off of a saddle pad with clippers. She did some work with a seam ripper as well, but did quite a bit with the clippers.

Thanks guys! I appreciate it!!!
I am a little lerry of doing it myself with a seam ripper. I am afraid I'LL ruin the collar then! She actually takes them apart to do the embroidery (usually I love her attention to detail) so I'ld have to unstitch the collar and then use the seam ripper. I still might give it a try, but it's good to have a backup just in case.
I feel bad, normally she does STELLAR work. I guess she just got excited and decided bigger was better this time?!

What is the name of the place in Newtown Square that you use for embroidery? I have some collars I want mongrammed, and I want interesting designs (not the boring ones available at the tack shops). So, I am looking for a good place in the area.
Any help would be appreciated - thanks!

Exactly. I use one to remove monogramming from blankets, sheets and coolers too, although it is a tedious job.
