By now you all know Katie Scarlett well I am sure. Miss Longears herself is once again not adopted. Her home was all lined up in VA and then the lady simply vanished. So, I wrote her and she told me to find another adopter. Life got in the way.
Once again, if anyone is looking for a choice choice mule lady, Katie will steal your heart.
Adoption fee is $300 and considering she has been here three years, that is one cheap mule LOL.

It might help if you post Katie Scarlett's details for those (like me) who don't know them already.

Kaite Scarlett is 8 years old. She is not broke but...................has been backed. She takes a saddle, blanket, bridle etc. etc. She is kind, she is the smartest animal I have ever met. She is the bestest foal sitter, she is a good herd guard and has no bad habits of any sorts.
Her owner died without fulfilling her goals but Katie still waits for her new person. And by no means is she too old to train. She learns everything the first time. She wants a job and would love to be someones trail beastie or jumping mule. Yes, she can jump. She is fast and agile. And she kisses better than anyone.

I have thought for quite a long time now that Miss Katie would be a great companion for my spoiled Puppy (a horse, not a dog! for those who don't know about him!). I can't afford to ship an equine halfway across the country while I'm dealing with several thousand in equine hospital bills...but if anyone out there has an equine like my Puppy who could use a BFF, this could be a great match for you!

I've always wanted a mule, and Katie Scarlett looks like a love.
Unfortunately, my pocketbook is already strained with 3 horses on the feed bill, so I must pass on this lovely lady.

Have you ever seen the movie "holes"? One of the characters is "Kissing Kate" who's forbidden love was destroyed, turning her into a wild west robber who only kissed those she intended to kill. LOL
I'm in Florida, and while I was not really looking for someone new, my husband has wanted a mule forever. How tall is Kate?

Shes so cute. I would take her if Christmas didnt just kill my finances and i had a darn truck to pull my trailer! :( She could romp my 13 acres and be turned into a little dressage mule... he he he... Wouldnt that make all the DQs turn up their noses at the shows!
Instead, i'll bump and keep this up on top for the pretty mule.

I am shocked that this nice girl has not found a home!!! I have ALWAYS wanted a mule, and if my circumstances were right I would love to bring her home! I want an eventing mule...at least one that is capable of fun stuff like that--dressage, jumping, hunter paces, etc.--for our mutual improvement and enjoyment more so than for showing.

is she good with other horses or cows? i knew that donkeys are good with cows and goats because they chase animals away? can mules do that?

I can briefly answer for Katie. Katie is good with other horses as she is pastured with at several others. There aren't any cows at Sunkissed so who knows. I think I remember Lori saying she will chase unknown dogs out of the pasture, etc.
She is a sweet SWEET girl. Because we will have our hands full training one large pony, we can't justify taking in Katie Scarlett. If we would...we DEFINITELY would. Katie Scarlett is unlike any other mule I've ever known. She is sweet, loving, a great personality and temperament.
She is a once in a lifetime....mule. She needs her one special person, and she will be loyal to that person for life. She is absolutely amazing and is definitely "in your pocket"....literally.
She is a tall and stocky girl and is about 15.2 or thereabouts I'd venture to guess. She is curious and inquisitive and will always greet you when you come to see her :)

I'm not shocked....many of us have "circumstances" of one form or another that are preventing us from helping those equines we want to help. I would take her yesterday....but there's those issues of shipping costs, feed costs, and a possible change in my personal life that would preclude me from having another equine to worry about.
Maybe I'm just feeling a little sensitive today, but please keep in mind that there are a ton of folks out there who would really, really like to help....but simply can't.

I really don't think ChristieandCritters meant anything by her post. I think she was shocked that out of the 30,000+ members of the forum that someone hasn't taken this lovely girl - nothing more :)

You are correct...I didn't mean for my post to be taken quite as it was. Katie just sounds like such a perfect girl that I am surprised that as many members are on this forum that a perfect match hasn't been found.
As I mentioned I have prohibitive circumstances, too. I would very much like to have a mule like Miss Katie. I just recently got a horse who is looking more and more every day like my true DREAM horse that I never thought I would be able to find again, and my other horse has a back/neck condition that needs to be worked up to see if he will ever be able to be ridden again. I would even consider possibly placing him, but I don't know that I have enough information for all parties that would be involved to make an informed decision at this point. That will require a trip to the vet school. I can't afford more than two equines at a time.
I hope this is appropriate clarification!

No need to clarify hon. Katie is in no danger trust me. I just want better for Katie and her home will come along in its time. YOu see, I adore Katie and I dont want to see her just be a pasture pet her. Katie can jump, Katie aims to please, Katie is a good watch animal but is good with cows and other animals she knows belong to the farm. While she will chase a strange thing from her field, she has never ever hurt anything. She will guard babies with her life. I hate to see her talent wasted but......................her right home is around the corner somewhere. No one needs to feel guilty about not taking her or any other rescue. Its better to be honest about ones situation cause I am hoping Katies next home is her forever home.

How are mules to train under saddle vs a horse?
She certainly is cute and looks like she has the right temperment......
If some sort of shipping arrangement could be made, she could have a wonderful home in N.H.........

Halt At X, you might want to look at Meredith Hodges' website, books, and DVDs. Mules are great and unforgettable. They are highly intelligent.

At a schooling show a few years back, there was a girl (12 yrs old?) on a mule at training level...and they literally kicked ass. Beat all the other equines, hands down.

I can certainly vouch for the "awesomeness" of a good mule. I have a pony mule that I got from a friend of mine in GA several years ago. He came "free" as a babysitter to a mini horse that I purchased from her. The mini was just a yearling at the time, and the mule really did watch over him. In fact, he still does today. Even though the mini has "moved on" to hang occasionally with others in the field, I can see that the mule always has a watchful eye out for his little mini.
The mule was broke to ride, and had been used in lessons with children before he injured a knee. He can still be ridden by a child less than 50 pounds or so, but, I've never had anyone on him.
He is VERY intelligent and full of personality.
Last spring, I took the mule and the mini to my son's elementary school "pet day." As we led them from the trailer, we had to cross a paved drive. The mini was a little nervous about crossing the drive. No problem, without any hesitation, the mule led the way across the drive, up onto the sidewalk, across the paved courtyard, and over to where we were to stand next to the school building. A few minutes later, the doors opened, and several hundred children crowded around the courtyard, as well as pet dogs, cats and a few other assorted pet animals. The mule was absolutely the most pleasant, brave, careful, friendly animal I have ever witnessed around children. He seemed to love being "crowded" by kids, smothered with with pats and hugs (despite my constant clamoring about not standing in front, one at a time, blah, blah, blah, there were half a dozen kids around us at any one time). My mule's expression was exquisitely content... he looked like he was in seventh heaven. And his attitude was infectious... the mini enjoyed himself as well. The two stood for 45 minutes, crowded by kids, parents, and teachers, pleased as punch. Not a whiney, poop, or movement from either!
If Miss Katie is HALF the mule mine is... she is worth her weight in GOLD. A mule like this is perfect for a child, or a lesson program with small, special needs, or timid children. And, of course, a loving adult would be perfect.

Awww I wish you were closer!! A mule is probably just what I need, especially one that kisses. I need something nice that in no way will remind me of Aisha, and what else is the opposite of a small grey Arab?
