Free lease available to the right person and situation in NJ, or within a few hours drive of northern NJ.

8yo TB, 15.3 but rides like a bigger horse, big boned, very comfortable to ride, handsome horse, goes in a snaffle, puppy dog personality, easy keeper. Fine in a stall or field boarded. Clips, loads, travels well, gets along with other horses, doesn't mind dogs or hounds. Jumps everything, good alone or in company. Started hunting earlier this season with a professional (out of state), and very lightly with his nervous :) ammy owner.

I don't have enough time to ride him. The weather is cold, frozen, and terrible here, and I'm a wuss. THIS HORSE HATES ARENAS AND RIDING RINGS. He needs a job that is hunting, hacking, and trail riding ONLY... he's ring sour, hates ring work, and will act up if asked to do it. He needs to get out 4-5 days a week, and my schedule doesn't allow it. He needs to not be ridden in a ring at all. He might be OK for a serious trail rider (he's good on trails) but he needs to be ridden several days a week, not sporadically or just on weekends (which is where I have a problem). Needs a skilled, confident rider... not because he's difficult, he's not, but because he is very sensitive to his rider's nervousness, but does great with a confident rider. He's new to hunting, but was doing well with an experienced rider. I'm nervous and inexperienced at hunting, so I haven't done much with him, and I don't really have time to ride anyway.

This would have been the perfect horse for me 10 years ago when I was younger, confident, and had time to ride :). A few scares, falls, and a busy career later, I'm struggling to hold it together. I love him dearly and will only send him to a great situation with an excellent match for a rider, preferably in NJ or southern NY, where I can come visit him. I think he'd be nice for a horseless foxhunter or someone who's horse is layed up and wants a young horse to play with for the rest of the season, and maybe longer if things work out. If not, I'll take him back at any time (if I can't find the right person, I'm just going to keep him anyway, but he deserves more time than I can give him).

I might also be willing to do a half lease somewhere within reasonable distance of Sussex County, NJ... I can't do it at my own place, and can't afford to pay someone to ride him regularly, but might be able to work something out and share expenses with another rider at a good, reasonably priced barn who also doesn't have enough time to ride but is otherwise a good match. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated :)

(FWIW, this horse is in no danger whatsoever... he's my personal horse, and he's enjoying himself sitting in the pasture not working for the winter... but it's a little bit of a waste and frustrating for me.)

Try going to the Master of Fox Hounds webb site and go thru all the hunts w/ in your comfort zone.
E-mail the hunt secretary w/ photos and your offer as well as the Pony Clubs they will know who is in need!!!
I do when I:) have something for sale suitable to field hunt and I get positive responses.:)

Thanks :) I'm not much good at "cold calling", especially since I'm not an experienced hunter (I feel like I'm wasting their time, or bothering them).

I did pass the info on to one very active member of a hunt I'm a social member of, and the Master of another, but it doesn't sound like anyone knows of anyone looking for horses (at all around here... hunt horses, hunters, jumpers, nothing's moving, for free or for sale).

I would even consider a free lease/swap if someone had a quiet older horse or hilltopping mount that needed a relatively easy life and some TLC, and the person wanted something younger/more interesting  to ride. I'm open to suggestions. So far it seems like this horse is just stuck with me... poor guy!

Bumping this for 2009 :) Still have the horse, still not doing much with him (he's been ridden a handful of times since the spring), and it looks like work and family commitments will prevent me from doing much with him again this fall. He'd be a nice horse for an experienced hunter who's found themselves horseless... and if he doesn't work out or you don't want to ride him anymore, I'll come pick him up :) I just don't have time to ride him and feel bad he's just sitting around.
