This horse was abandoned here. Located in nw GA near Chattanooga.

His registered name is Flying Challenger. He is 14 and has a good background as a successful show horse and kid's horse. He is a tad under 17 hands and not at all intimidating. Sweet and laid back as can be. Doesn't bother anyone, great manners. He does weave in a stall, but here he lives in a small pasture with a run in so it's never been an issue. He does require a winter blanket which I'll happily send with him.

His owner brought him here a walking skeleton. I've never seen a horse so skinny in my life. He's slowly (ever so slowly) gaining weight again. It was a good month of normal feeding before he gained a single pound, I swear.

The problem is that he still needs to gain a lot of weight and also that he was injured at a previous trainer's place. I was told by someone else that the trainer was abusive and caused Flyer to flip over and injure his back. He has had a few chiropractic adjustments which have helped greatly. But he is quite stiff in the back end due to the issue and I'm not sure how that would affect his riding career. He needs more fat before he should be ridden anyway.

This is his old ad that his owner put up last year (just so you know what he has done in the past...she was asking $10k!)

Hi, I'm a sweet boy who's mom is very busy these days and cannot give me the attention I love. I am very versitile and can do many things, from trail riding, Combined Training, Dressage, to Hunter Jumpers, needless to say I'm a seasoned show veteran and am always in the ribbons (usually blue ones) I also bath clip and load (though I always have to sniff the trailer floor first) I'm suitable for a confident advanced beginner or above.

And this photo (http://www.equinehits.com/photos/04/horses/202589x1.jpg) was included with the ad. He is skinnier than this now, due to her leaving him out on pasture for so long. He MUST be fed a proper diet. We have him on Triple Crown Senior and Amplify in addition to alfalfa and access to a round bale.

EDIT - Here (http://crystalmontgomery.smugmug.com/photos/443793291_wUZxK-M.jpg) and here (http://crystalmontgomery.smugmug.com/photos/443793259_VyUFq-M.jpg) are some progress photos. You can see by his expression how much more comfortable he is.

A photo from today (http://crystalmontgomery.smugmug.com/photos/443793735_kvwMN-M.jpg). And another (http://crystalmontgomery.smugmug.com/photos/443793228_mQHd5-M.jpg)

He also has a best friend who I'd love to place with him but it isn't necessary. They are just very attached. Another freebie. Casey is a 24 y/o QH gelding. Fat and sassy. You can lead kids around on him but he tends to just stand there if they try to ride independently. He's just a typical old man. Holds his weight very well on the same diet I mentioned above. Sweet old guy, also abandoned. :(

He's actually put on quite a bit of weight since this pic (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v99/duggapstables/Boarders/Casey/CaseyRiding2.jpg?t=1230004437) was taken this summer. His feet also look a lot better now. They needed a bit of work!

Like I said, he is quite stiff in the back end due to the issue and I'm not sure how that would affect his riding career. For now, he needs a lot of rehab and tlc. How rideable he will be after that is questionable.

Great of you to save him.

And bad of his owner/caretaker to dump him out to starve in a pasture (with the drought in Georgia) after he was injured.

I hope he gets a good home and recovers from his injuries. Maybe the vet who treated him then can shed some light on the injury and the prognosis?
Then you can tell prospective adopters more about that.

We don't know what his injuries are. Just the story of him flipping over at a trainer's and my chiropractor's discovery of lower back pain. All that we know about him is posted here. His owner won't even return calls to provide more information.

Me too....he really is a sweetheart. A child can handle him and apparently he was quite a nice riding horse at some point. My chiropractor is optimistic given his positive response to adjustments but you just never know.
