....... U R G E N T .....12/21/08.........

Storm Berry needs a home asap.

Her owner downsized/culled/whatever you choose to call it. She was due to ship to new Holland around the end of October. AC4H took her and was going to euthanize her if they couldn't find her a home...a far more dignified death than she'd have received at a slaughterhouse. And, that is where she'd have gone if they hadn't taken her.

She's 20 years young and in good health.

A woman in MD generously agreed to keep her until we found her a home or until Mid January. She had a home, then that home fell through.

We are T H R E E W E E K S from Mid January.

... PLEASE...

Keep this girl safe.

Foster home, permanent home....she needs A HOME.

Storm Berry is not available through our rescue, Bright Futures Farm. I just have a soft spot for elders, and I'm a huge fan of Storm Bird. I am not the one who has made the decision to euthanize her if she doesn't find a home.

Please everyone...if she doesn't find a home, she will be euthanized.

She is available as a FREE adoption through AC4H.

If you want to foster her as a tax-deduction until a home can be found, contact AC4H

Adoption inquiries to: christy@ac4h.com

Hi Tricky,

They don't have to be close. We can raise part of her transport.

There is a photo or two on our web site, www.brightfuturesfarm.org Go to the home page, then choose the button on the left "Other horses available". I can't seem to post a pic on this thread. Are we able to post pics?

Yes, you can post a photo. You will have to upload the photo to something like photobucket. Then, when you're posting, the photo icon (to paste the photo link) is the little square with the "mountain" and the "sun" in it.

Have you contacted Our Mims Retirement Haven (http://www.ourmims.org/)? They do exist to retire the lovely old TB mares who are no longer of any use to the industry.

Can't hurt to ask Jeanine!

Dear HydroPHYLE.....Thank you. I will attempt to do the photo bucket tomorrow. Photos are on our site as well, see third post, I believe.

Dear Spookhorse Jeanne was one of the first people I contacted. We are on the waiting list. Unfortunately, we are #21 on that list. Doesn't look promising :-(

Post this on liequine.com's msg board. Also, did you try contacting NY Horse Rescue and Project Sage Rescue?

That is too bad :( I know Jeanne usually has a waiting list, but I didn't know how long!

I wish more farms would (properly) pension their old mares rather than throw them to the wolves when they're breeding days are done. Or at least give them the dignity of humane euthanasia.

Bailarina...We are a rescue too. She was rescued by a different rescue. Both are full.

Carledee...Old Friends is full...

Spookhorse...I agree...unfortunately if we don't find her a home asap.....that will be her fate also.

Got a home, anyone, for a retired broodmare who had earned her right to retirement?????

I am told this mare appears sound, so she should be rideable. She's only coming 21...possible school horse for someone?

here's 2 web sites you can try, they both take in retired horses. one is catskill animal sanctuary www.casanctuary.org/ -12k the other is pets alive www.petsalive.com/ - 20k - they are both located in New york. I wish I had the room for her, I would take her. I really hope she gets a home.

If you are close to me, I can provide a foster home until a permanent home is found. I would need to figure out a way to get a friend for her as all my horses are boarded, and I can't do it forever, but I do have 4 empty stalls in my back yard. I am in Anne Arundel county near Baltimore.

I could possibly give her a lifetime home in MO. I will have to check on shipping though. I have a 45 acre place with runins and stalls.

YES!! We found a home for her early this week and I just haven't had time to update anyone. She'll be moving to LA to live with friends of mine. They saw the info on our web site and said they would give her a home, so now we're just waiting for a transport date! Thanks
