Thanks!! Oh, now the dilemma- do I try another Rambo (my first one ripped in two months and lost all waterproofing in two washes), or do I stick with my plan to get another brand...

FWIW, I switched my horse's medium-weight from a Triple Crown (a former Horsewear Ireland brand that has since been discontinued) to a Schneider's Euro Extreme 1680 denier, and so far I am extremely impressed. The workmanship is excellent, it fits my boy very similarly to how the Triple Crown fit, and he hasn't managed to tear it (or even scratch it) yet. My horse is VERY hard on his clothes and destroyed the Triple Crown in two seasons; it was covered with 20+ patches, the binding was fraying, the piping peeled off the back, etc. If I had a horse who wasn't so hard on his clothes, I would stick with Rambo/Rhino, but it's just too damn expensive; the Euro Extreme was $120 shipped after the coupon code ("K" for $10 off).

Why couldn't they have this sale AFTER my very lucrative house sitting job next week???

Thanks jn4jenny! I know how you feel. My boy is definitely hard on his clothes! He is one of the more active boys in our herd.
I have been looking into the Schneider's as another option. My two issues are 1) they say that with the adjusta-fit could possibly leak(?) and my boy is out 24/7 and 2) He needs the Rambo XL for the neck and shoulders but only in an 81 so I think the Big Fellas might be too big since they start at size 84. The Rambo XL so far has fit him the best, which is one reason why I haven't bailed on them completely just yet.

I share your concern about the adjusta-fit, so I bought the Euro Extreme, which doesn't have the adjusta-fit feature. This is the blanket I bought (btw, the color is lovely in person--this picture makes it look mauvey but it's a lovely burgundy in real life):

Before buying this, I already had a Schneider's Classic Euro turnout sheet that had done two seasons of service, so I had 100% assurance that the fit was going to work and wouldn't be leaky. The Euro Extreme is the same blanket, just made with 1680 denier fabric.

Ah, I see. Thanks. So, am I reading correctly that the neck on this model comes up past the withers? I think that's why I didn't get one already- my boy has big withers and a large neck and so far anything without a big neck opening totally doesn't work for him.

Our Rambo XLs have lasted for years. Admittedly, we only use them in really bad weather, but other brands never fit or lasted well on our big shouldered boys.

I've always purchased Weatherbeeta blankets and been impressed with their quality. After listening to all of the COTH members brag about the Schneider's quality I purchased a high end Schneider's blanket. It was ugly, didn't fit well, and generally looked cheap. I sold it online. I purchased a weatherbeeta Taka medium weight instead. My baby was still cold and I couldn't quite afford a heavy weight Rambo so I purchased an Amigo heavy weight. Wasn't sure I would like it but it's great!! Fits beautifully, lovely quality. Definitely a great buy for $150.

Dammit. I wasn't going to get mare a medium weight ... but then we wouldn't have to layer, which would make it easier on the BM. The price is really good ... but what if she outgrows it? She'd look lovely in olive tartan too. I should remeasure her when I get to the barn tonight. Just in case. And free shipping! But she doesn't *really* need another blanket ...

I've used Schneider's blankets for years and have yet to find another brand more durable, yet so reasonably priced. My current heavy blanket is maybe 4 years old and doesn't have so much as a snag. (He lives in it 24/7). I also have a Schneider stable blanket, which I use as a liner with his heavy blanket or as a stable sheet in the fall and early spring. It's maybe 7 or 8 years old and still in great condition. I'm a big fan of their blankets!

Yeah, Schneiders do have some good stuff, but their blankets are butt ugly. I have to look at the horse out in the field all day so I'd at least like some pretty, pleasing patterns and colors to look at. :D
I also like the Amigos. I have Amigo and Rambo fly sheets also and love them.

My 4 year old gelding must have grown since last winter because his blanket is a bit snug this year so I am looking for a new one for him.
For those of you who have Rambo's how would they fit on an extremely wide chested Paint? He is halter bred and has LOTS of muscles.
I have a Weatherbeta for my other gelding and it fits him really nicely and is good quality but it isn't wide enough in the chest for my other gelding.

So has anyone tried the amigo 600d turnouts? I want the sheet. I'm hesitant to order; all my other blankets are 1200d. But the price is right, and my bay boy would look so good in red!

The regular Rambo cut will definitely NOT fit a wide-chested horse well.
The Rambo XL cut will, though.
There's also the Rambo QH line that I'd think would work.

Triple Crown (a former Horsewear Ireland brand that has since been discontinued)
Huh?! When did they stop making Triple Crown? Where have I been that I didn't know this? I LOVE my TC turnouts! My last couple of purchases have been Rhinos, but I always thought I'd pick up another TC or two down the road. Bummer.....

I don't know the exact date, but they started getting awfully hard to find in 2006 and 2007. Triple Crown as a brand is still around and you can still easily find their coolers and some of their other products, but I haven't seen the TC turnouts in ages. :(
pharmgirl--I'm not here to sell you a Euro Extreme, but like I said, I find the fit to be extremely similar to a Horseware Ireland turnout in every way. Including the neck. My horse is a wither-tastic TB.

Triple Crown Custom is still very alive and kicking...I just bought a turnout from them and it is BEAUTIFUL! I have used Triple Crown for years and LOVE THEM!
I agree with Dirty Little Secret...I tried a Scneider's and was VERY disappointed. Besides ripping within a month...I agree that they are butt ugly!

I bought a Rhino mediumweight for my boy in 2006 (the chestnut plaid one). It was fine for that winter, but by Jan 2008 it was completely shredded. Huge rips all over the external waterproof layer. I had it patched, but it continued to rip. The exterior had become very dry and brittle for some reason.
Btw, I'm in Los Angeles so the blanket was only worn for a couple of months each year. And my horse is in a mesh-lined pipe corral, so there was no equine "help" in the blanket's demise. I also sent it out to be washed in cold water by a professional blanket cleaner. Mine was the only blanket to suffer this problem--all the others in the barn were washed by the same company with no ill effects.
I switched to a Schneider's this year and so far, I love it.

My rhino wug has been disappointing as well, tearing up after only one season.
Whoever asked about the Rambo QH line. Bought one, correct size, and found it extremely tight through the chest and shoulders on my then QH. I'd avoid that line (Rambo QH) completely.
