Is there anyone who breeds a conn/ish or conn/RID cross? I've known one that I liked, and have thought of breeding for such a combination, but have such a little sample size that I thought I should get some more information.

I've seen several in Ireland.
One of my friends growing up had a RID/Conn cross sired by my Grandfather's stallion Windy Day who competed all over Ireland and was a great little jumper. Very nice cob-type.
My grandfather's last stallion Catamaran frequently got ISH mares.
Grandpa was a huge believer in the Conn/RID/TB cross and considered it to be the 'ultimate cross for eventing.'
I've seen a few Conn/ISH for sale on various sites.
One of my future breeding goals - far far off in the future is to breed a Conn/ISH.

oh good, I'm glad I'm not completely crazy. I am 5'4" and I've been riding some connies lately, but do like that cob size. I really like the irish draughts/irish sport horses, but again, they tend to get close to 17 hands.
For eventing, I thought that a conn/ish could be awesome. My tb is 15. 3 and I love his size, but I would like more bone (well, and brain!). I also have a 16.3 tb/qh/clyde that is amazing, and I wish I could just shrink him down to that cob size?!
I have looked at a few connemara mares in my area (co) and started thinking about that cross as a possibility.

There is a breeder up in Canada - Drogheda who I believe has done/has a couple in the 'oven' so to speak Conn/ISH crosses. :)
Yes a Conn/ISH cross is in my 'future to breed list' - my plans are to get a nice TB mare, breed her to a nice RID stallion and hope for a filly and breed her to a nice Conn stallion and keep and event that resulting foal :)
I'm 4'10 so I don't need a big horse (LOVE my ponies they are the perfect size!) but I grew up with my Grandpa raving about the cross as an event horse  Grandpa bred ponies and stood stallions for 45 years - he saw all the good ones be they Connemara, RID or ISH.
The cob-style horses (usually overheight Connemaras - Geldings especially or RID/Conn cross) are very popular in Ireland and the UK and there are several classes for them at shows.
Where we are from in Ireland, Clare is a big area for RID and ISH and there are always nice ones around - and lovely stallions too  The quality of the horses at the local shows nearby is very nice.

There was a breeder in either Virginia or Maryland that was breeding some Conn/ISH crosses, they were also breeding some Arab/ISH crosses. I wish I could remember the name. My trainer and I almost took a road trip to check out 2 of their mares back in 2006 when I was horse hunting. Their horses looked great and both the crosses seemed to work.

I've seen some RID/arab crosses on dreamhorse out of Virginia. I wonder if that is the same breeder?

They have a separate studbook in Ireland for the small ISH, which is often an ID or ISH crossed with a Connemara.

There is one out here competing at lower level eventing and there is just no mistaking the pony in him. Pretty sure he was imported.

Wow, I wish we had something like that. I wonder how such horses do over there? I would think that they would be very versatile. I am looking for something that could at least do the mid levels in eventing.

They mostly breed Arab/IDs. We bought our 5yo mare from them in August 2007, but she is ID over a WBxTB mare. (And you can see her here: http://flickr.com/photos/lauraxthomson/3105081298/ and here http://flickr.com/photos/lauraxthomson/2994056878/) The other one they had for sale at the same time was a ID x Connemara. Very nice people to deal with.

Yes, that is the breeder I was thinking of. I didn't see any conn crosses, but maybe because I only looked at the horses under saddle already.

I believe that Brianne Sells has one - Connie over an RID mare - don't know that the kid is for sale but couldn't hurt to ask

I think that Wendy Ying in Florida has a nice young mare who is ID x pony cross, too - cob sized, and very talented. Sorry, I don't have any more info on that one.
An earlier poster mentioned Drogheda Farm in Alberta Canada - Brian has a load of lovely ponies and cobs, and he's a great guy to boot - couldn't hurt to ask.
