I would love to see pictures of what your best TB mama horse (or one you would love to see a baby from). What do you like the most about her. What types of babies has she produced? I am just curious. Partly in order to learn more about what makes a good TB broodmare.

well I love mine. She is by Candi's Gold who has sired many jumpers and an eventing horse that actually placed at Rolex. She herself was a very fancy hunter and I decided to give her some time off to breed her.
She produced a phenomenal colt and I am going to keep her as long as I am able to!
She also scored a 109 and was the top score mare at any Oldenburg NA inspection this year! This is very rare considering she is a TB!
The first pic is Gracie, and the second is her son Ace at 7 months.

My best TB broodmare is Run Really Run.
Her pedigree: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/run+really+run
She is homozygous for black, and normally throws tall, athletic foals with excellent canters. All but one is over 16.2H (the one is 16.1H). She is approved Selle Francais. She has the best disposition for both riding and with other horses and foals.
The first two photos are her. The next two are of her 2008 filly.

She is 6 months is foal to Escapade and this will be here first foal as she lost last years in the very last month.
I am hoping to produce a nice hunter cross that is taller and has a nicer shoulder.
I sure would take one with her personality and disposition any day!!!

I've used three. All three were quite different, so it is hard to term which is best.
http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii170/okgottago/?action=view¤t=IMG_3818.jpg This mare has had one foal and frankly I think she improved on the stallion (to me, that is exactly what you want in a mare). She is in foal to Cielo B right now. This is her 2008 baby http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii170/okgottago/?action=view¤t=LacyDawn.jpg and this filly LOVES to jump. We have xc jumps in the pasture and she will gallop around doing a course, and if there isn't a jump there, she will jump anyway! It's funny to me that this mare was ALPHA prior to having the foal. After she foaled she turned into a big submissive chicken, and the filly was incredibly shy- difficult to catch, and didn't seem to like people. I assume part of it was that the mare would always try to herd her as far away from people/horses as possible. After weaning them the filly completely did a turn around, she is absolutely friendly, curious, in your face for nose kisses every second, bold, and very playful.
http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii170/okgottago/?action=view¤t=mia1.jpg our other mare and her 2008 foal http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii170/okgottago/?action=view¤t=IMG_8011.jpg (the paint). This mare was very carefree with her filly, she was not protective and really basically didn't interact with her other than nursing. The filly as very bold and independant, curious and quite playful. Then we weaned them and it was another turn around in personality. This filly now is deflated, she just "looks" sad and the spark went away. She still loves people, but before she was so excited to see you and now she quite literally falls asleep every time you touch her. She came in foal to the paint, so I can't say how he was in person, but the filly is an improvement of her dam and I think probably of her sire. I didn't expect much and was really happy with how she ended up. She ended up with her moms killer movement and got a cuter head and better topline/shoulder and shorter back.
and last but not least:
http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii170/okgottago/?action=view¤t=roundpen12.jpg and her 2005 baby http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii170/okgottago/?action=view¤t=IMG_2714.jpg this was another very protective mare, but her foal was bold from day one and stayed so after weaning.
Anyway, I know you didn't ask about the nature/nurture debate, but with TB mares I've ended up with three pretty bombproof foals and all were "raised" pretty differently from their dams.

My mare is not 100% T'bred, but then I don't have any that are 100% t'bred. Encore (Cory) is 3/4 T'bred though. She is approved with the ATA and has produced 3 babies for me. Prior to be a broodie I competed her at Hunter/Jumper shows and she did quite well down here in FL. She HATES dressage, but has been schooled up to 3rd. She out produces herself every single time and passes on her remarkable intelligence and temperment/work ethic. All of her babies also have her great hip.

Thank you,
I bought her as a prospect for my daughter for the hunters but an eye injury put a stop to that.
So I will breed her one!!!
She still has the vision in her eye but a very ugly ulcer scar that is very noticible. I breaks my heart though. She has had over two years off of a consistant riding program due to breeding her and I pulled her out of the pasture yesterday and gave my kid a lesson on her. I hope her baby is half as sweet.

"Best" can mean different things.......
In the past have had 2 that were reserve champions at inspections over WB mares....lovely confo and movers.......but lacked in other areas (like temperment/personality).
The 2 I currently are both super mares but very different.
Rita (Pirates Widow)
http://www.pedigreequery.com/pirates+widow
http://s82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/camohn03/?action=view¤t=IMG_6292.jpg
(keep in mind she is in her twenties!)
is very strong on sprthorse pedigree and confo and has a lovely sweet/laid back temperment. Her problem is that we have lost 2 of her last 3 foals. The one born in 2008 was a healthy filly that scored a 7.7 at inspection, the year before that she had a red bag delivery...foal survived only to break his leg is a pasture accident as a weanling, and the foal before that was also a RB delivery and did not make it. She is older so given all her problems she is now retired.

Miss Annihilator
http://www.pedigreequery.com/miss+annihilator
http://s82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/camohn03/?action=view¤t=AnnieRight407Reduced.jpg
is a good looking mare but confo is not as good as Rita's. She moves decently, but not as brilliant, she is not strong on pedigree. What is great about her is her foals. She already had 2 foals when I got her.......they were little mini me's of the sire. The first foal showed successfully in DSHB and the second is eventing. She has had 2 more foals for me....the 3 YO successfully showed in hand at 2 and HUS at 3, will start OF in 2009 with his young rider. The 2008 filly is of course only a weaner and has already jumped the pasture fence (at least 3 times......). ALL of her foals have bold, unflappable temperments and are highly intelligent. ..The other good thing about Annie, the mare is that she loves babies...is one that will take on orphans. I have had one mare that actaully died and 2 that were just bad mothers....she adopted their foals.

I have 2 TB mares I truelly adore. The first is Miz Yenko, aka Supernatural, 16.1 by Zen by Damascus. She is the dam of Ironstar, Skyler and Ironrule. She had a terrific career as a jumper and was a as brave as any horse I have ever seen. She has turned out to be a wonderful broodmare and I consider myself very lucky to have her. Below is a picture of her and 2 of her sons.

Thanks everyone, this is a fun thread to read. I have a tb that I MIGHT eventually breed to a warmblood (she has some conformation flaws but a super personality and very smart). She's only four so I need to see how she is going to turn out with regard to performance- hoping to use her for eventing. I also realize that I may be better off just buying another horse (a youngster so that I can get the best quality for the money) when the time comes. Here is my girl-

We have two that are fantastic. One, Good Queen Liz, is the dam of our stallion, Salute The Truth. So far, she's been bred to Innkeeper twice (one colt, one filly), Mystic Replica for a fancy and refined filly, and Scimitar for a VERY fancy and athletic mare. She's in foal to Brandenburg's Windstar for June 2009. Unfortunately, don't have lots of pictures of our broodmares (Steuart won't let me put up "I'm a broodmare and proud of it" pictures):

Our second is AWESOME. She's by Mokhieba and has produced some of the best horses Steuart has bred, yet (all by our stallion, Salute The Truth). He sold the 5-year old to Bruce Davidson last year - Buck is riding him; the 4 year old may be even nicer than that one and the 2-year-old is looking very promising, too. Unfortunately, we've had problems getting Gigi to stay in foal. Her uterus is full of cysts and we can get her pregnant, but she's not staying pregnant. :sigh:

Mine would be my mare Whooo's So Special. She had a very successful career on the A circuit as a hunter here in Ontario - including a Provincial championship - and then spent one year doing dressage up to Level 2. She is approved AHS (high scoring non-Hanoverian mare, 2nd highest score of the day), GOV (high scoring mare at the site), ISR/Old NA, CWHBA and CSHA (high scoring mare at the site). During the first year I had her she was shown in hand and was Champion Broodmare at the Royal Winter Fair and won the overall CSHA year end championship as well. I love my girl .
She has produced two foals so far, a lovely 2 year old filly by Freedom Z and a stunning yearling colt by Pablo, and is currently in foal to Sir Caletto.

I've said it before - the more a WB horse looks like one of these lovely TB's the more I like it. To me these top TB's sets the standard for elegance, looks, brain, athleticism. My own mare is a bit saggy, baggy so not so good in photos, lovely though she is.

My best TB mare is Dream Chaser by Darn that Alarm.
When she was inspected by the ATA, she scored the third highest score for a TB and was the high scoring mare (including TK mares) at the Texas inspection. She scored multiple 8's - including conformation, type and legs (8, 8/8, 8/7/6, 8 = 53).
She was also inspected by the BWP and received high marks for her legs and walk.
Here are some pics:

She has had 4 foals (all very nice) and lost another one at 8 months (an Escudo II ) and one at birth (Aram). So far, all of her foals have a lovely type and have been nice to ride. Her oldest is competing in Childrens hunters now, the 2nd oldest is under saddle and his rider adores him, and the 2 youngest are a 2 year old (sold as a weanling) and a yearling (coming 2 year old).

My best (and only!) mare has proven herself to be a star to me. She is lovely to look at, has a wonderful huntery sweepy trot, and best of all, a fabulous mind and disposition. She had a wonderful TB filly last spring, who also (thanks to mom I think) is very sane and brave. I've seen just how important the mare is to a foal's reactions.
We are breeding her to Apiro this spring, I'm sooo excited about that!

My TB Mama was my show horse for a couple of years, then retired because she went blind in one eye. So we bred her to another TB which resulted in a lovely colt, who unfortunately passed at 3 days. So we then bred her to the wonderful stallion Rosenthal and she is due 7/17/09. I am so excited because I love this mare. She has a beautiful head and good conformation, as well as good movement. She is a little, I don't want to say hot that's not fair, but I guess she is a chicken. So Rosenthal was a pick with his great temperment. As well as many other great things:)

And this is Today on the left & these are some of her foals...Able and Ready, Able Spirit WF, Dynamite & Double Bounce WF. She had a total of 10 foals over the years in the 70's & 80's.
From her we've had 2 Grand Prix dressage horses, 2 High Preliminary/Am-Owner jumpers, 1 4' jumper, 2 licensed stallions and several Premier offspring with several more great grands on the way.

Then there was Nobody Much http://www.paardenfokken.nl/pedigree.php?horseid=302703&maxniveau=6
I don't remember her at all but apparently she was a thrifty mare in the flesh but very correct in terms of conformation.
She had 9 foals by Abundance and we stood her youngest son for his entire career - Again and Again. His siblings were Jackie Blue, Rushton, Ruxton and The Alchemist. A full sister was sold to Lendon Gray. But with Ruxton being in the Hunter Hall of Fame (jumping pic below) and Jackie Blue jumping in LA in '84 and Rushton & The Alchemist's success as Working Hunter and Again & Again being a Grand Prix horse...she was a great mare & threw better than herself time and again! :) We've had 2 Grand Prix horses, 2 licensed stallions and several Premier babies from this line as well...they are freakishly talented for the the hardest exercises in dressage and are a joy each day to ride.
The dark grey horse is Again & Again at DAD as a 3 year old with 30 days under saddle. Lighter grey is him (again) at 8 at Raleigh in the I1. The chestnut is a 2.5 year old great grandson at his licensing.

The 2005 filly (http://www.flickr.com/photos/28168510@N07/2628522261/) will start eventing this year and the 2006 model (http://www.flickr.com/photos/28168510@N07/2628524417/) is just starting under saddle.
They're all a lot of fun.

Thanks everybody! It is awesome to have grown up with so many nice horses as the 'norm' in the barn! It certainly changes your perspective when you go out & about and see what is 'normal' in other barns...Today was really exceptional and it is her descendants that are my favorites. (not that I am allowed to have favorites beyond Wally!)
Congratulations on using MANY wonderful TBs successfully. You certainly could have picked more than one. Looking back at the pedigree on South American Way there is a allbreedpedigree Herbager pedigree with a picture...what a lovey horse he was for sport breeding. PatO
Thanks columbus! Mom, Dad & Emily get the credit with the mares & South American Way - actually the whole breeding program was their area until I brought up the idea of getting Wally. :)
This is our South American Way xx - his Allbreed pedigree was changed (again). As he is deceased, I had stopped checking about a year ago...guess someone wanted to make him into a 1/4 holsteiner while they were at it! http://www.sporthorse-data.com/d?d=south+american+way but the allbreed listing is now corrected also http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/south+american+way
He was a really cool stallion with an incredible piaffe, exceptionally free shoulder & super balanced canter. :) His daughters have been really good producers but 2 of the 3 are out of Able Spirit, so the talent is there from both sides of the pedigree. The 3rd is out of another Abundance daughter Aurora. His oldest son is the real Tasker FWIW - and he gave me a lovely ride today with a piaffe that was as correct & straightforward as his sire's today!

A TB mare that I did some breedings with. She's light on the muscle here b/c she'd torn a back fetlock out running stupidly in a wet field so she was out of work for a year. How I ended up with several nice babies.

She's a big framey mare with a real Marilyn Monroe walk and a very nice neckset for a racing bred TB (there are some superb GP jumper TB bloodlines smattered into the pedigree).

My favorite TB mare was a 1970's bay mare named Janes Legacy who gave us a bunch of great babies. Two went on to become Grand Prix dressage horses, one of which is still competing at age 20. She also gave us a Gov Premium daughter who was my own eventing, fox hunting and dressage horse, who gave us some more offspring, including an A/O jumper, some talented dressage horses , and one daughter we kept for the third generation of this mareline, who is now coming four and sooo talented and easy.
