Just wondering if like Suffolk Downs, FL track closes for the winter, if so where do the horses on the CANTER website go?? and does anyone update the website?

I have been stocking a specific horse for a bit, but his price tag is kinda high for a trackie

Finger Lakes does, indeed, close down for the winter. Racing ended on 12/6 and all horses have to be off the backside by Monday noon 12/15. Horses in the Adoption Program itself are housed in a lovely barn, right on the race track site.

The organization at the track is the Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program, or FLTAP, not CANTER. If you check this thread, you will see that we have been trying hard to find homes for some of the horses on the Trainer's Listings.

Which horse are you interested in?

The Trainer's Listing is updated at least once a week during the season, or more if we hear of horses that have been placed. During the winter, of course, it isn't updated nearly as often.

I can't quite tell from your post if you have found the Trainer's Listings. Just in case, here is the direct link.

Louise thank you for the info, yes i have seen the trainers list, that is where I have seen the horse, his name is Whispering Bob, I have to say he is the only chestnut that I have EVER been attracted to, something about his face!

I was not aware that the FLTAP was different from CANTER big DUH on my part, is that why a lot of the horses seem to be priced higher??

I suppose if it ever got to the "just take him" stage I would be there trailer in tow ASAP. In the mean time I will just keep cyber stocking him :D

Thanks again!!!!

This time of year, you might try giving the trainer a call. Horses sometimes get pretty negotiable around track closing time.

Prices, on the whole, are pretty reasonable, I think. There are a few trainers, however, who do hope to get a bit more money. We, of course, can do nothing about the price they are asking.

Arrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh, I had a feeling if I mentioned his name, he would get a lot of press. Like I said Iam not a fan of chestnuts, but this one speeks to me. I dont think it is his chrome, I see a lot through a horses eye and expression, if it wasnt Christmas time I would be talking to the trainer, or driving to PA

He is out of a Salutely mare and by a Gone West stallion--he should be an athletic bugger!

Ooops I do know that, my mom lives in PA about 7 hrs from me, thru upstate NY so I tend to identify that area as all the same! :D I suppose 7 hrs is 7 hrs  Plus I think I was parousing the CANTER PA website at the same time!!

Bob looks alot like my all time favorite horse the equine version of LINNY. You need to go get him, he's lovely and bred for sport.

Ohhh man I would love to go get him, but I think when an OTTB is gray or has a lot of chrome or height the trainers seem to think they hit the jackpot when it comes time to sell. I understand the fact that they are looking out for the owners and trying to get the most for their return, but there is a LOT that goes into making them something else, color and breeding is a small piece of the puzzle! Trainers and owners need to remember time off for brain and physical recovery are keys to success, and that cost money ;)
