I guess so. I thought maybe I was blind. I wonder what rule was broken? :(

I suspect it's because it's not through a registered charity. Grinch anyone?

think it may have been closed/deleated due to having craiglist ads or other sites posted in it. But then i havent been following the treads closely so could be wrong.

Threads sometimes disappear for pruning and then return.

Have you tried asking the moderators directly (via PM)? One imagines they would be able to answer your question.

Just to direct your attention to the new "Global Announcement" at the top of the page. . . it solves the mystery.

Ah ha. Thanks, OTH, I was wondering where the thread had gone as well.

For those who were following the thread, I emailed for more information about Ginger, the pony mare in Loris, SC and got a reply from the owner asking me to phone. I left a message and I'm waiting for a call back.

Partly because of the CL ads, and partly because we can't have fundraising efforts unless it's for a 501(c)3.

Not to worry.:) I'm curious about Ginger, because she lives so close to me, but I wasn't planning on asking for any $.:) If it turns out she needs help, I bet my local horse community would, er, pony up. (Sorry.)

So I guess this means we can't actually have a COTH Christmas pony this year?

P'Aint~ Please keep us posted on the Ginger pony! I hope she will find a good home! *Youneedzthatpony*

Too bad the other thread disappeared! Maybe someone can start a private thread and invite those interested in doing what someone originally suggested! :)

It's too bad that those not already under the wings of an angel or rescue can not be afforded some comfort this Christmas season.

There are NUMEROUS horses listed here under the guise of charity or rescue which CLEARLY are neither that are afforded FREE advertisement when they are FOR SALE by trainers that no longer want them for racing. Why it is different for CL or any other method is beyond me :( A Sale is A Sale from the race track or "rescue" referral it's still a SALE! And they are not in want of food or medical help  What about the ones on the verge  Why is it wrong for the cared for ones that we are threatened with buy or ELSE and not for the backyard rejects. At least the race track rejects so commonly posted here or auction threads can at least come to a merciful end out of the country. But the blind, old single, forgotten, ill used back yard neglect case is not allowed - that Is NOT cool!

Double Standard! Worse it is so unequal it is paralyzing.

Woodland, and all, Mod 1 will address your concerns as soon as she can.

All I can say is we have rules. If you want to get together privately and buy/save a horse or pony that needs it, that is fantastic. But, we have to draw the line somewhere - and 501-c-3 it is. Unfortunately, there is simply too much chance for fraud - especially in a BB as big as this one has become.

Sorry.

And I am closing this thread to further discussion - except for Mod 1's comments.

Thanks, everyone for you concern and your willingness to DO SOMETHING - which is so absolutely important in today's world!

We absolutely understand your disappointment, and yup, it does feel like a grinchy thing to do and I'd really rather not. Unfortunately, in order to be fair, we have to enforce the rules as universally as we can, even when we'd rather not.

We make an exception for this thread, and it sets a precedent for the future. "This horse needs help just like that one. How come they could fundraise for it, and I can't try to help this horse?"

We explained on the Tiny Tim thread after the revised rules and moderation staff were in place that the scenario couldn't/wouldn't have happened if there hadn't been a lapse in consistant moderation during that period of time. That doesn't mean we don't think it was a wonderful thing to come out of the COTH community--it was.

As Mod 2 said, we have to draw the line somewhere regarding rescues and charities on the board, and the only logical place we could determine to do that was by 501(c)3 designation. Of course that doesn't mean that these are the only deserving charities or horses--or even that the ones with that designation are run well--but it's the only easily verifiable vettting process we have.

We don't want to crush the generosity of COTHers, but we do want to protect our community from the shady characters out there chomping at the bit to take advantage of that type of generosity.

In coming months, we're going to be brainstorming a lot of ideas re: what we offer our members here--we're always willing to listen to your suggestions. So if anyone has any ideas of ways we can tweak our policies re: sales threads and charities to better benefit the board, send me a PM or an email!!

We do apologize for not being able to support this effort, but with your help, perhaps by next year, we'll have found a way to make something like it work. :)

Thanks for your understanding,
Mod 1
