Hi everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster. I have a coming 4 year old Widmark mare that I will be breeding for a hunter foal. This mare could use a bit of length of leg & needs a stallion with high rideability as she is brilliant, but a touch difficult. She's not exculsively a pro ride, but a little easier would be nice. She has a fabulous jump but cold use a little flatter knee action though I'd rather have one that jumps great first. Her walk & canter are very good. Ideally, I'd like a stallion that can refine her some as she is a little heavier. Fresh is ideal but frozen isn't out of the question though she is a maiden. I have considered Redwine but unfortunately I cannot deal with quarantine for EVA. Color/chrome is unimportant.

Also, does anyone else have Widmark offspring? What can you tell me about them? Any other hunters by him?

Would Zarr be refining enough?

If your mare is Hanoverian, how about Sir Wanabi? With the Santorini/Sunlight xx I would think he would be prepotent for type and I found Sir Wanabi just breathtaking when I saw him at the finals of the 100-Day Test last year - he was injured and could not take part in the final three days but they brought him out for the final presentations and he was just beautiful - and had very good jumping scores too. He did well at Dressage at Devon this fall too - I wish I could have seen hm again this year.

He was very, very beautiful at DAD. I spoke a lot with his owners too. He has a very nice, laid back temperment. They actually trailered him from Canada with his yearling filly in a 2 horse. He never acted stallionish or excited, just really calm and cool yet able to be "up" when needed in the in hand classes. They showed him hunters previously and are going to again this coming year. He also did jumpers (FEI 5 year olds). At the SPT, he had good scores in both jumping and dressage, but higher in jumping. He is at Sandra Laprise Stables.

Thanks everyone! My mare is actually Oldenburg NA, but I am not opposed to going to another registry. She is out of an Oldenburg mare.

Zarr would refine her, but I do want to be able to fully register the foal & I know he is not approved. Sorry, I should have put that in my first post.

If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them. I will look at Sir Wanabi. :)

I don't own a widmark foal, but I have met Widmark in person a few times, know his owner and was the photographer at the AHA inspection they hosted this summer. The majority of foals presented were Widmark foals. He sure stamps his get! Temperament wise, they all seemed fairly bold, but then they were on their home turf. The mares in the mare performance tests were also lovely. A couple of them were hunter types, but for the most part, they pretty much all had nice jumping ability and looked to be very rideable. There are pics of all the mares and foals from the inspection on my website if you want to take a look at them: http://sporthorseone.exposuremanager.com/g/hanoverian_inspection

For a stallion suggestion, how about Ironman? I have seen some exquisite foals by him and I'd think you would get a nice hunter in a Widmark/Ironman cross. http://www.ironmanonline.com/

I have a Widmark gelding from his first foal crop. He is sweet, bold, and uncomplicated. He is pretty bombproof for a younger guy, I rode him until my 5th month of pregnancy out on the trails; his temperament is just stellar. He has very elastic movement. I don't think he will be a terrific jumper, but he will jump if asked to. He is a bit longer than taller, though had a growth spurt this year and reached 16.1. Widmark can throw long I think. What about Raffaello, though I don't know if he's Oldenburg? I also like Dacaprio and he's produced hunters.

If you were already looking at the R lines, What about Royal Prince? I can't comment on the jump, but he certainly moves beautifully, seems to be a refining influence also.

What is the full pedigree of your mare?

She is out of an Oldenburg mare but I'd have to look at her papers at home to give you the full pedigree. I am drawing a blank right now.

If you want to see offpspring, I have had a 2008 Royal Prince (and bTW RP had pretty good jumping scores), a Pablo (2007), and a 2004 Pablito. You can see all of them on my website (look for the photo captions and/or click the Foals links). The RP is out of a Donnerschlag-Matrose mare; the Pablo is out of Gold Luck - Weltmeyer mare; the Pablito is out of my AHS TB mare.

Thought I'd update. Right now it's a toss up between Royal Prince & Dacaprio. I'm waiting on video on both stallions before deciding. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions!

I have a DaCaprio son. Although his dam had some jumper bloodlines, I could not be any happier with him. He is an awesome mover, very sweet and extremely rideable. He just started showing the 3ft 3 pre-greens this winter at WEF and is going very well.

Thank you Clearound. Your boy is lovely! I did decide on Dacaprio. I loved his video & I think he will compliment my mare very well. So far his owner has been fabulous to work with. I can't wait to see this foal!
